Way of Overlord
Chapter 72: Curiosity

Chapter 72: Curiosity

Aeryon summons puts Garron in a difficult position, knowing that he must comply to avoid potential repercussions for his daughter Ayera and for his tribe

There is always a chance that Aeryon could turn this in some kind of way as some cause to attack the Utgard tribe.

Garron is a very cunning man, brutal and manipulative. He also seems very heartless. But even he has some weakness.

And that is Ayera. His daughter. Her mother died early and Garron loves her very much. And Ayera resembles her mother in appearance

But in his personality, she resembles him more.

He might send Ayera to Aeryon to spy on him and even assassinate him. But...it was also a kind of protection measure

The moment Aeryon had chosen to take down Xewa and Ghar tribe, Garron could feel the wind of change is blowing in the Great Steppe.

The Southern Great Steppe is full of small tribes. But it is also one of the largest areas of the Great Steppe after the northern steppe

Once a person manages to create a large tribe here, then it would not be impossible for that tribe to become a great tribe that rules a large vast of land of the Great Steppe.

However, if Aeryon could hear the thoughts of Garron right now, he probably would smile.

Because Garron is still thinking too small. He is thinking that Aeryon only wanted to create vast area for his tribe.

But what Aeryon really wanted to do, is to unite the entire Great Steppe.

Of course, garron could not know the thought of Aeryon. What he does knows was that the moment Aeryon take Xewa, Ghar tribe and the four other tribes, he knew that he could not just stand still

Relying on that momentum, he takes Nudya. Unlike the Central Great Steppe during his father time, there is no large tribe here to stop this kind of thing

From that moment on, Garron knows that a certain kind of balance has been broken.

Many people wanted to break this balance. But maybe the timing, the circumstances and the condition was not right and so the status quo remains.

But with Aeryon almost reckless method, he had created a path where there is no path. And so, Garron also began to expand.

"I wanted to know this man" he thought to himself. Aeryon reminded him too much of his father. And this time since he already had to go, he decided to see this man again, clearly.

"But I could not just listen to everything he says. If I did that, then where would my pride?’ he thought to himself while smiling.

As he prepares to depart, Garron ponders the best approach for the meeting. Should he bring a large entourage to demonstrate his power and influence?

However, he realizes that such a display might be perceived as an attempt to intimidate Aeryon and could potentially backfire, giving Aeryon a reason to turn against him.

Garron understands the importance of not making Aeryon his enemy at this point.

The timing is crucial, and he cannot afford to create unnecessary conflicts.

Additionally, he contemplates who should rule in his absence.

While the Elders can provide support, he believes that one of his sons should take on the leadership role within the tribe.

Garron has seven children

He has three daughter and four sons. Out of the daughter, the one he is most fond of is Ayera, the second daughter of the three daughters.

Then it is Sayin. Sayin is his first daughter. She is married to the Kazan. Then there is Likaiea, the youngest of them all and who still lives with one of his wives.

And he has four sons.

Ogura, Sayushi, Barbager and Yonwa.

He had to choose carefully.

Any moves of him could be seen as a support. He sighed, as he began to understand the worries of his father in the past

All of his four sons are talented.

Ogura displays skill in battle, but his impulsiveness concerns Garron.

Sayushi possesses a gentle nature and deep thoughts, while Barbager excels as a horse rider but lacks leadership qualities.

Yonwa, the youngest son, shows great promise in combat despite his youth.

"Aeryon doing this to me, does he know something?" he thought again.

The timing seems so coincidental

Garron has many schemes going all at once. He sent his daughter to Aeryon to delay that little overlord from thinking to attack him.

That is what Garron called Aeryon in his mind. The Little Overlord. There is a condescension in the title

After all, even though Garron is now reduced to a small tribe in the Southern Steppe, his tribe once ruled alongside the eight tries of the Central Steppe.

His father once launched an invasion toward the North and even though his father failed, what a glorious moment that was.

At that time, Garron is still a baby when his father and his brothers go to the North.

But he was there during the strongest moment of his tribe. So, he had capital to be arrogant.

To him, Aeryon was lucky. Yes, he was fierce and powerful during his battle. But there is also an element of luck

At least, that is what he thought in his head. He could not have known that nothing about what happened that day was luck

That Aeryon has an Invincibility Card and that it is because of that he could dodge every arrow and save from being killed

To the eyes of other people, it is Aeryon showing his innate strength

But only Aeryon knows the truth that he is not able to do such a thing. So, to Garron, he gave the title the Little Overlord

In the north, there is great Overlord that rules a large vast swathe of land. It is because they’re ruled by these Overlords that they were so united when the Central Steppe invades them

But that had nothing to do with what is happening now.

Garron fears that Aeryon summons him because of what he is planning to do and had already done.

Garron, fuelled by the victory he achieved and the newfound strength within his tribe, feels a surge of confidence and determination.

The bounty from the battle has provided him with additional resources and men, elevating his tribe’s status and shaking off the subordinate position they once held under the Xewa tribe.

A sense of elation permeates the Utgard tribe, knowing that they are no longer a mere shadow in the Great Steppe.

And so, at that time, after he returned back to the tribe, he already made plans to expand.

With his growing force, Garron sets his sights on the small Nudya tribe, an offshoot of the Rudya tribe, located to the north of his territory.

Drawing inspiration from Aeryon approach, Garron understands that if he demonstrates enough strength and power, these smaller tribes will inevitably surrender and submit to his rule.

He came and he spoke the same words Aeryon had spoken. Surrender and live. Resist and die.

Of course, every tribe in the Great Steppe, every chief and every warrior would not just surrender without a fight

Even though they knew the fight is pointless, they still have to show their attitude.

So, one of the strongest warriors of the Nudya tribe challenge one of Garron commanders and while Aeryon may not be aware of this development due to his own consolidation efforts, Garron sees it as an opportunity to assert his authority.

Despite lacking a warrior as formidable as Belarion, Garron’s seasoned veterans prove their mettle once again, defeating the Nudya warrior.

The defeated tribe swiftly surrenders, and Garron skilfully absorbs their warriors into his own ranks.

Now, with Utgard bordering the Dayan tribe to the north, having forged alliances with the Kazan to the east, the Korun tribe to the south who is just easy picking, and the Rudya tribe to the west, Garron plan is slowly coming to fruition

Garron himself did not expect that things would be this smooth sailing.

He thought his chance of a breakthrough from his past situation would come by allying with Xewa.

But who would have thought that by ditching Xewa tribe and allying with the Brolgadhr tribe, he manages to break through from his previous situation of not having the opportunity to expand?

Having recently assimilated the Nudya tribe, Garron finds himself with several hundred additional horse riders and warriors.

And his mind began to plot

Aeryon son of Rakarys.

Garron ponders over the qualities of Aeryon, the son of Rakarys and the young chief who has emerged as a formidable warrior.

It was a shock to him. That there is such a warrior in such a small tribe.

While Garron acknowledges Aeryon bravery and martial prowess, he understands that being a great warrior does not necessarily equate to being a competent ruler.

This realization stems from Garron’s own experiences and observations throughout his life.

Among his nine brothers, Garuka stands out as one of the most talented in battle.

Possessing innate strength and a fearsome fighting ability, Garuka was a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

However, his downfall came in the form of poison, resulting in a lonely death within the confines of his own room.

Despite Garuka receiving support from numerous clans and tribes, those under his rule failed to experience any significant improvements.

It became evident to Garron that Garuka, while skilled in combat, lacked the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively govern and lead.

Comparatively, Aeryon remains a relatively enigmatic figure to Garron.

Beyond his warrior-like traits, Garron admits that he knows very little about Aeryon.
