Chapter 73: Memories of Youth
Chapter 73: Memories of Youth
Prior to Aeryon attack on the Xewa tribe, the young son of Rakarys had not achieved any remarkable feats that caught Garron attention.
Aside from a youthful act of avenging a wrong by attacking a small tribe alongside his sworn brother, Aeryon accomplishments were limited.
These observations lead Garron to question the extent of Aeryon abilities and suitability as a leader.
While Garron acknowledges Aeryon skill in battle, he remains sceptical about Aeryon capabilities beyond the battlefield.
Garron understands that being a successful ruler requires a diverse range of qualities, including strategic thinking, diplomacy, and the ability to govern and uplift those under their rule.
The stoner his people, the stronger you are. Some of his brothers could not understand this simple logic.
As he prepares to meet with Aeryon, Garron’s curiosity is piqued, wondering what lies beneath the surface of this young chief who has disrupted the power dynamics of the Great Steppe.
"this time, let me see you clearly" he thought to himself.
Garron gathers his sons in his tent that night
Garron look at his four sons.
Even the young one was summoned.
"Sayushi would lead the tribe when I am not around" Hearing this, Ogura expression sour a bit but he did not say anything.
Garron did not realize this.
"While I am gone, there is certain things I need you to do"
He went to another part of the tent, a partition in his large tent and spoke privately with Sayushi.
For half an hour he spoke and then he let Sayushi go back to the main part of the tent.
He shares most of his plan with his second son. But what he talks about with Sayushi is not something that the other three sons of his could hear.
Aeryon might have summoned him to the Brolgadhr tribe for a meeting, but Garron had no intention of delaying his plans.
The Utgard tribe has an alliance with the Kazan and now is the time to use that alliance
Garron then turned to Ogura, his first son. He looks at his son and there is a complicated expression on his face.
He sighed and then said
"Go to Kazan, meet your sister, and call upon our ally"
"Why?"
"Rudya" Garron said and Ogura mind quickly reach the conclusion
"Take down Rudya?" Garron nodded.
"The Kazan chief would want something. What could we offer?’ Ogura asked. As Ogura is the oldest child, he waws the only one that have the guts to talk back against their father.
Garron smiles and simply said
"Estkazan"
"They help us take down Rudya and we will help take down Estkazan"
Ogura was silent for a while.
"Can we, do it?" Garron narrowed his eyes at Ogura. He seems to be expecting an answer. And Ogura began speaking
"There is Brolgadhr tribe that is also allied with us. Father, do you want to ask them for help also? Estkazan is not easy. If it is, Kazan would have already united the offshoot of their tribe."
Even though Estkazan is also small, that is relative to other small tribes. They could be considered between small and large tribe.
They have around five thousand men. That is a lot.
"Brolgadhr is far away. And Aeryon do not trust me. And I do not trust him. Right now, there is the Korun tribe that acts a buffer between us and him. Korun tribe is now also free from the yoke of the Xewa tribe. And I also wonder what Korun tribe would do"
He sighed for a while. Who would have thought that Aeryon victory created so many new situations? The stagnant Southern Steppe suddenly breathed with life and with life there is chaos.
"It is easy to invite them but is it easy to tell them to go back?" Ogura nodded. He could understand. If the Utgard tribe invite the Brolgadhr tribe here, what if they decided to betray them
It is because they have done such a thing in the past, that they are more wary of it.
"It would not be easy."
"Take Rudya first and then the problem would solve itself. And I still have some other measures I could take"
Ogura nodded and close his eyes. Garron then turns to Barbager. The moment his father set eyes on him Barbager eyes sems vibrant with light
At this Garron smiles. Compared to his other sons, Barbager reminded him of his older brother Garuka.
As for Barbager, Garron entrusts him with a diplomatic mission to Dayan.
He instructs Barbager to present gifts to the aging Chief of Dayan, who is known for his indulgences with concubines and wives.
Garron explains that depending on Dayan’s perceived strength, Barbager will assess the situation and communicate with his brothers.
If Dayan appears weak, they may consider including it in their plans after dealing with Rudya.
However, if Dayan proves to be formidable, they must wait and consolidate their own strength before making any moves.
Garron carefully assigns these roles to his sons, ensuring that none of them feel alienated or overshadowed by their siblings.
Each task is regarded as vital, emphasizing the importance of their collective efforts.
Reflecting on his own experiences with sibling rivalry, Garron feels relieved that such tensions are not prevalent among his own sons
Garron had already made a plan in his mind on how to quickly increase his influence and power.
He also has a few measures he could take if one of his plans fell off.
"All I needed was that wind of change. The Skyfather has blessed me" he thought to himself.
Garron has always had a deep desire to establish back the Utgard tribe of the past. The tribe that he establishes only is a small tribe.
And he could not expand.
After he took over the site of Toki tribe, he takes the small clan around him to his tribe and he became a small tribe.
But he could not fight against the Kazan on his Estkazan was once a large tree.
Now it has splintered into four.
There is the Kazan, Estkazan, Nurkazan, Sordkazan and Wustkazan.
There is also Rudya and Dayan. Each one of them seems to want to contain him on this part of the Steppe. And not many people wanted to join his tribe.
There is no great war on the Southern Steppe and so that means no refugee.
To some people they want a life of peace. But a life of peace could not create the world he wanted. He wanted chaos. But he did not have enough power to create chaos.
Something has to change and now things have changed. With the death of the Xewa tribe and Ghar tribe, the wind of change is blowing.
And now, suddenly, there is all kinds of avenues that is opened to the Utgard tribe. But he did not forget who blows this wind of change.
As Garron sets out towards the Brolgadhr tribe, he can’t help but feel a mix of worry and anticipation.
The rapid expansion of the Brolgadhr tribe in just a few days has made them a formidable force, causing concern for Garron.
While the large tribes in the Southern Steppe may be indifferent to such expansion, seeing it as a common occurrence, Garron senses something different about Aeryon.
It’s an inexplicable feeling, but he can’t shake the feeling that Aeryon has the potential to become a truly formidable figure in the Great Steppe.
The night before his departure, Garron contemplates these thoughts and finds himself burdened with worry.
However, with the arrival of dawn, he gathers his resolve and rides towards the Brolgadhr tribe.
Remarkably, he chooses to bring only fifty men with him, a smaller number than the entourage he sent with his daughter.
Garron has his reasons for this decision, recognizing that a small group can appear less threatening and offer some measure of protection.
And he understood a few more things than his sons. When he told his sons that he would only bring fifty men, all of his sons protested.
They believe that such a number is not enough. Even after he said that it would appear less threatening, Sayushi his second sons said that if Aeryon really wanted to kill him, appearing less threatening would not help a thing.
This kind of number is even smaller than the entourage he sent to his daughter. It basically almost felt like he brought no one
Because fifty men is not a lot of men. If he arrives at the Brolgadhr tribe and Aeryon wanted to kill him with just fifty men, the Viper could easily be killed
And all the fifty men would accompany him to the Afterlife.
His second son is right.
But Garron has another reason why he only brings fifty men. He believes he did not read Aeryon wrong. And it is because of that despite the protest of his sons and the elders, he continues with only fifty men.
He understands the risks involved, as a mere fifty men would be vulnerable if Aeryon intended harm.
Just before he leaves the Utgard settlement, Garron who is on horseback and ready to go look behind him
He takes a moment to observe his tribe, a smile on his face, before shifting his gaze to the horizon.
"It feels like I am young again" he was excited. He was anxious. He has all kinds of feeling. There are all kinds of plans in his mind and he might be able to achieve it if he could convince Aeryon to do it.
A sense of heroism engulfs him, and his heart is beating like never before
He caresses the back of his horse and smile
"Suhail, today, let’s ride again" Suhail is the name of his horse.
He kicks the side of the horse, and the horse set off, its feet kick the ground, rushing through the land of the Steppe.
The wind gently caresses his cheek, and the rhythm of the swaying grass creates a melody that resonates with the people of the steppe.
Garron the Viper of the South is heroic as ever. It has been so long that he reveals this side of him
Those warriors that accompanied him could also feel it. The Viper that the people knew was the cunning mind that manages to establish a tribe in Southern Steppe.
Rarely that one would see him having such a heroic air.
Maybe, it is because Garron could see Aeryon and see a better version of himself, a version that he wanted to be, closer to the image of his father.
Aeryon the Son of Rakarys is a young man with great ambition and Garron is a man who has weathered enough storms that even if Heaven falls his face would not change.
Garron and Aeryon has met before. But it was an informal meeting. And Garron was not prepared at that time
The event of that night is still very chaotic and very unexpected and it is that kind of setting that they met with each other.
Only those who survive that night could understand how miraculous it was for Aeryon to achieve what he did
But today, they will meet once again, prepared and ready to face each other.
The meeting between these two individuals with grand ambitions is bound to shape the destiny of the Great Steppe.
