Chapter 61: Her Past
Chapter 61: Her Past
Aeryon laughed. Who knows what he is laughing at? Is he laughing at Garron plans, at Ayera or at himself?
Aeryon is confident of himself. It is very easy for him to kill Ayera. One word and she and her entourage would all be buried here.
But that is the stupidest thing he could do.
He is now allied with the Utgard tribe. Killing her just because of his suspicion would not bode well. Utgard tribe could use such act of oath-breaking as a cause for them to attack his tribe. And with a just cause like that, he could persuade other tribes to attack him
The loss outweighs the gains.
It is better if he takes Ayera to be by his side and dismantle whatever Garron was planning. The more he does that the more he would restrain Garron.
Right now, Aeryon still need time to recuperate. The tribe needs time to familiarize
themselves with the new system
For now, it would be very awkward for them to assimilate the Brolgadhr tribe with other tribes but usually it is only the first time that would be hard
Later, when Aeryon began sweeping all the small tribes in the Southern Great Steppe, it would no longer be a problem if the people of his tribe are already used to it.
He nodded to himself.
Aeryon returns to his tent and called Kashoger. Kashoger is one of the fifty guards around his tent. Kashoger is his cousin from his mother side and so Aeryon entrusted him as a messenger.
"Summon Ayera the Daughter of Garron to my tent"
Kashoger nodded and soon enough Ayera was escorted to his tent. The curtain opens and Ayera come inside.
The curtain closed and she sat down in front of him, separated by a small table. Aeryon look at him and he smiles.
Her lower face concealed by a veil, as a sign of modesty and high value women. Chastity is valued even more so for someone who is a daughter of a chief.
While the distinction between high and low is not like the Yan, the chief at least had some distinction from the common tribesman.
Of course, in small tribes like Brolgadhr these differences could not be felt
Though, Aeryon believe that with someone like Ayera, she sees her beauty and her concealment of her beauty as a strategy.
And if Ayera could hear his thought, she would agree.
And so, he laughed. The trick might bewitch other men. But Aeryon knows why she came here. And he has already seen her face.
A beautiful face. But not enough to extinguish his ambition. There is no doubt that no amount of beauty in this world could calm the ambition in his heart
Because his ambition is mixed with other intention. There is anger. There is hatred. Anger toward destiny, hatred towards fate.
He wanted change. Aeryon wanted change. The original Aeryon might have die, but his spirt seems to linger on.
Turns into a fire that drive the forces of ambition of the current Aeryon
She heard his laugh and she frowned.
When she inquired about his laughter, he simply shrugged, playfully withholding an explanation.
"I am a man of my word. Today I summon you here"
"It seems you have forgotten" she said
"What have I forgotten?"
"You said you would come to me. Today, I am the one who come to you"
"Hahaha!’ Aeryon laughed again and he nodded
"I thought back about it when I returned home. It is not I that want a marriage for myself. It is your tribe that wanted this marriage. Isn’t it proper that those who wanted something come and beg for it?"
Aeryon voice is calm and there is no sarcasm tone in it but in each word, it is clear that he looked down on the Utgard tribe.
"Today, I met you. In the eyes of the tribe, you are now acknowledged as my woman. I believe you have informed your father"
Summoning Ayera to his tent held a deeper meaning for Aeryon. It was a gesture of acceptance, an acknowledgment that she had been embraced as part of the tribe
"My father will come. My father intention is as you guess. To cement the alliance between the two tribes" Aeryon nodded.
As Ayera spoke of her father’s intention, Aeryon gaze fell upon her, and with each passing moment, he felt a growing sense of both intrigue and caution.
In his eyes, Ayera resembled a rose, her beauty captivating, but her surroundings adorned with thorns.
There is a dangerous allure about her, a sense of hidden depths and untold secrets that both intrigued and unsettled him.
Aeryon was well aware of the danger that she held, not just as an individual, but also as a representative of her father’s ambitions.
He knew that navigating this delicate relationship would require careful steps and constant vigilance.
But that is the challenge.
And he very much liked the challenge. There will be time for this.
As Aeryon sit there and look at this woman, in the silence of his tent, the weight of their complicated relationship hung heavy in the air.
He sighed inwardly
Outside, the wind whispered its secrets, carrying with it the sounds of horses galloping and distant sound of warriors training in the training ground
Ayera, waiting for Aeryon words, found only silence.
In the depths of their hearts, they both knew that their connection was built on mutual interest rather than genuine affection.
A normal conversation between them would have been effortless, but their circumstances were far from ordinary.
"I just wonder whether you know about it, a willing participant to it or an unwilling participant." Aeryon thought to himself.
Then he spoke to her
"I see that you set up a tent not far away from the main settlements" She nodded
"You have a lot of warriors accompanying you. At least, from this it could be seen that your father did not think of you as a disposable pawn"
"A what?"
Aeryon chuckles.
He forgot. These people do not know the game of chess. They play different things and they don’t have leisure times to play with chess.
Regardless of how mature Ayera spoke or the way she acted, Aeryon must remember that if she is in his world right now, she is very young
She is around fifteen or sixteen. Aeryon could not really tell. In the Steppe, there is no systematic counting of age.
The only one who would know your age is yourself and the people around you. There is even teen drinking and killing.
This era is very different from his era. There is an age limit to drink but, in this era, if you could ride horses and raid other people tribe, why could you not drink?
It would not make sense at all.
But in this era, sixteen is already old.
Aeryon was reminded that Borte, the wife of Genghis Khan was given to him by his father and the father was quite relieved when Genghis Khan accept Borte hand because she was already considered old in that era
His father worried that no one would take her hand if Genghis Khan did not take Borte. Of course, at that time, he was still Temujin and not Genghis Khan.
But in that anecdote, it is clear that the age of marriage differs depending on the era.
In this era, even though there are people who could fight hundreds of men alone and there are mystical phenomena, people still die young.
Anyone who could reach forty years old is already considered to have lived a long life.
Not only people have to deal with, disaster and wars, they also have to dela with diseases and plagues.
Aeryon take a deep breath. He just hopes that this woman is simply here because she supports her father
And that she did not actively helps her father. There is a complicated feeling in his heart.
Crushing beautiful thing always felt wrong.
And she is beautiful.
But if she were to stand in his way.... Aeryon truly believe that at this point of time, no matter how beautiful certain something is......could it be compared to the ambition in his heart?
At least, at this point of time...it could not.
There is another moment of silence in the tent.
Aeryon when he is thinking, he went silent.
And being silent has its advantages.
It unnerves certain people. Even Ayera felt unnerved. Because for a second, she could feel a suddenly burst of killing intent that rises up.
Ayera has been many things and assassin were one of it.
She was as adventurous as her brother and it is because of this trait that she managed to learn to become an assassin.
Utgard is close to the Kazan tribe.
She went to the Kazan tribe and from there she rides her hose far away to the North east. She rides for days before she reaches Altai tribe. Then she reached Timur tribe and from there she went into the lush thick forest of Yindu. She evaded the capture of the soldiers of Yindu and manage to see the large city of Karkotta.
It is near the Yindu Mountain range and to enter the area from the Great Steppe is harsh but she managed to do it.
And there she met the people of Yindu.
