Chapter 49: Price of Power
Chapter 49: Price of Power
Aeryon did not know all of the thing that is happening right now. He did not know that Belarion is worried about him, worried about how to help him
However, Aeryon does understand Belarion and even if Belarion did not say anything, Aeryon did think of him
Because while James does not know much about Belarion, the moment he became Aeryon and inherited his memory, he also felt a kind of familiarity with Belarion.
And Aeryon knew his sworn brother well. And that is actually one of the reasons why he wanted to meet Belarion tonight.
He needs to act a bit tonight. There is something he wanted to tell Belarion.
Aeryon did not know that Belarion is suspicious of his newfound strength.
But it is not something that Aeryon failed to anticipate.
After all, the moment he fought those two tribes without even being injured, he knew someone would suspect something.
And he also was ready for it and he was preparing for it from the moment he uses that invincibility card
And Aeryon right now, while he is leisurely checking his attribute window, does not know that there is a woman riding towards him right now.
A boring morning. That is what this morning should be. But that is far from the truth.
Aeryon however does not hate such a morning. He prefers excitement. And there is nothing more exciting than knowing more about this world
It was like he is peeling an onion. He ordered take out most of the time but he also very fond of cooking.
And one of the things he likes about the process of cooking other than mincing onions and cut shallot into finely diced shape, is when he peels an onion and look at the shiny surface of that onion when the skin is being removed
That is how he felt when he knows more about this world
Like cooking. He enjoys the process as much as he enjoyed the result.
There is only three more attributes he needs to check. Some of the attributes make him learns more about the world
Some are very generic
But Perception attribute....he feels like this attribute might have something to do with magic
Perception
Perception represents your character’s sharpness of senses and observational abilities.
It is also an attribute that make you attuned to the energy of others
A high Perception attribute enhances your ability to notice details, spot hidden objects or threats, and be aware of your surroundings.
It also improves your chances of detecting traps, locating hidden paths, and anticipating enemy movements.
Other than that, you could also feel the aura of people with this attribute, making you able to determine whether a certain person is stronger than you
With increased perception, you would also be able to feel the energy that is in the world and become more aware of it [the more use of this attribute must be discovered by the host himself]
With this attribute increase in points, it would make the host possess a heightened sense of danger, enabling them to detect hidden enemies or impending threats.
Additionally, a high Perception allows you to determine whether a place is full of energy or not
Investing points into Perception allows you to unlock special abilities or talents that harness your enhanced sensory acuity.
These abilities may include improved energy detection, heightened accuracy with ranged attacks, or the capacity to sense magical disturbances or illusions.
[More special abilities and talents would be unlocked, the higher the points of this attribute]
MAX STAT POINT: 100 stat point
Aeryon nodded to himself
Like he had expected.
"this attribute has something to do with energy detection" he muttered to himself. He had expected it.
The description also indicate that he could sense magical disturbances or illusions if the points are high enough which confirms that there is magical places and sites in this world
There is also the threat of illusions.
But maybe because he now knows that magic still existed, that he is not as shocked as before
His Perception is also not very high. Only five points.
Aeryon then look at his Agility attribute. Just like his Perception points, it is only five points.
Aeryon then thought about the Agility attribute and the windows popped out
Agility
Agility represents your character’s physical dexterity, grace, and nimbleness.
A high Agility attribute enhances your ability to move swiftly, react quickly, and perform precise actions.
It improves your overall coordination, balance, and finesse in combat or other physical activities.
With increased agility, you would possess heightened reflexes and excellent hand-eye coordination.
You can dodge incoming attacks with ease, manoeuvre through complex environments, and perform acrobatic feats.
Additionally, a high Agility enables swift and fluid movements, allowing for quick strikes, rapid weapon handling, and superior mobility.
Investing points into Agility allows you to unlock special abilities or talents that leverage your enhanced physical dexterity.
These abilities may include increased evasion, improved critical hit chance, or the capacity to perform agile manoeuvres, such as flips, rolls, or climbing with ease.
MAX STAT POINT: 100 stat point
Agility did not gives him any new information. Instead, it felt like it complemented Dexterity attribute.
"Luck" he muttered and then the Luck attribute description window popped out
Luck
Luck represents your character’s inherent fortune and the mysterious forces that shape their fate.
A high Luck attribute enhances the likelihood of favourable outcomes and fortunate events.
It can influence various aspects of your character’s journey
With increased luck, your character possesses an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time.
They seem to experience fortuitous events more frequently and often find themselves on the favourable end of chance occurrences.
Additionally, high Luck can lead to unexpected windfalls, lucky breaks, or advantageous circumstances.
Investing points into Luck allows you to unlock special abilities or talents that amplify your character’s fortunate nature.
These abilities may include the avoidance of bad luck, the instinct of evading evil fortune, improved chances of finding rare items, or the ability to trigger favourable random events.
[This is an attribute that is related to the will of the world. The higher the point of luck, the easier it is for the host to avoid bad fortune and to encounter good fortune]
MAX STAT POINT: 100 stat point
Aeryon look at the description and he nodded. Just like he expected the Luck point seems to be something magical
It did not give any noticeable boost to any of his ability but Aeryon knows that luck is like an invisible force
Luck or effort which is more important? Of course, it is luck. This invisible force could make a king a beggar and a beggar a king
Now, that he knows the attribute function, the more important the attribute points to him right now.
After the last quest, he has seven attribute points. And he has seven skill points.
The skill is good but as long as the base is also good, even normal attack would pack quite the punch.
"I could choose to distribute it among my weakest points. Or...." Aeryon knows the one thing the tribe expect from him right now
It is not his strength. The strength he shows during those battle deter the other tribes. Some believe the hearsay and some did not
But Aeryon realizes sooner or later, there would be warriors that would come to his tribe and challenge him
So, the most important attribute to him right now.... is strength
"Who knows the right answer after all?" Thinking of future development, it is not wrong if he chooses to put some in strength and some others on the attribute that he is lacking
But he understood something. No matter how many resources you have gathered, if you do not use before you die, then that resources is as good as not used
"That is a bad analogy" he muttered to himself.
No matter how smart he is, no matter how agile he is, if some warrior with the strength of Belarion comes knocking and he got hit with a punch or a kick, that would wind him up really bad.
And the moment the other tribes sense weakness, the sharks would circle.
He establishes the current prestige of the tribe through strength. So, through strength he would rise, through strength he would fall
"Seven to strength!’ he almost shouted his thoughts.
He did not want to hesitate anymore. If he thinks more and more, the more hesitant he will become, the more excuses and pros and cons he would give.
In the end, he would waver.
"I have to live first. As long as I am strong enough, there would always be quest that I could complete to gain more attribute points" he thought to himself
In his status window, the seven points of attribute suddenly become zero and his strength shot up from four points to eleven
And then Aeryon winced
"What the hell!"
"Argh!"
Aeryon cry echoed through the vast expanse of the Great Steppe as he was forcefully thrown off his horse.
He felt like his bones is being broken. And so, his body lunged forward like his body trying to find the best posture of survival
The impact with the unforgiving ground sent shockwaves of pain reverberating through his body, leaving him gasping for air.
"Hah, hah"
The grass rustled around him, as if taunting him with its gentle sway
His horse neighed in shock but did not run off. Instead, it stayed beside its master, like it was encouraging him
"What kind of..." but he could not finish his words as he could feel that even talking is painful.
In this moment, it felt as though his entire being was consumed by an all-consuming inferno.
Waves of searing agony coursed through his veins; each pang more intense than the last.
Aeryon could hardly comprehend the sheer magnitude of the pain that gripped him, his mind struggling to reconcile the repercussions of his choice to channel all his attribute points into strength.
His breath came in ragged gasps, his body wracked with tremors as sweat poured down his forehead and back, mingling with the dust of the earth.
The torment seemed relentless, like an unseen force mercilessly pulling at every fibre of his being.
