Chapter 50: The Effect of Skills

Aeryon gritted his teeth, his face contorting with the sheer intensity of the ordeal, as he battled to find a semblance of solace amidst the overwhelming suffering.

For agonizing moments that stretched into eternity, the relentless waves of torment crashed upon him, leaving him teetering on the precipice of endurance.

It felt as though his very limits were being tested, every nerve ablaze with a fiery torment that threatened to consume him entirely.

Each breath he took was a battle, each beat of his heart a struggle against the forces that sought to break him.

Aeryon however is very determined

"I could beat this" he thought to himself. Right now, he no longer wanted to regret that he put all of his attribute point into strength. Right now, he could only choose to endure.

There is still too many things he wanted to do. So, he would not fall here.

He found his determination. A determination to survive. The most purest desire for any living being is to keep surviving.

And that resolve burned brighter than the pain.

He refused to succumb, to let the agony conquer him.

With every ounce of willpower, he could muster, he sought to divert his mind, to find respite in thoughts beyond the physical torment.

He thought of his happy years. It was not many but every happy moment in his life seems to replayed itself in his mind

He did not have many meaningful happy memories. Life in the modern world has many conveniences.

But for some reason meaningful memories are hard to make.

However, there were good ones. Mostly the hard ones.

The good ones are always the hardest one. Easy things are not memorable. But hard things....that you will remember

But only now, he learns to appreciate the struggle.

And for a moment, he forgotten the pain even as his hand grabs the ground and crush the soil, grabbing the tall grass and his body sweat so much that it drips to the ground like he is a roasted meat on a spit roast.

But then a sudden wave of coolness washed over him, as if an ethereal hand reached out from the depths of his being to soothe his suffering.

The fiery tendrils of pain gradually subsided, giving way to a momentary reprieve.

Aeryon trembling body gradually steadied, his ragged breaths gradually finding a rhythm of their own.

"Hah, hah" he panted. Slowly he rose from the ground. His vision is a bit blurry but then he shakes his head.

A few second passes and his eyes return to normal vision.

He looks at his hand, a smirk on his face. The pain was visceral but now that he had withstand it, he could feel something coursing through his veins.

A kind of renewed strength that seems to rejuvenate his body from inside out.

He felt like he had the strength of ten men

He could feel an aura of strength emanating from himself. The kind of strength he usually felt from Belarion.

He looks at his horse that waited for him as it neighed loudly seeing that he is fine.

Aeryon smiles and laughed a bit. He then caress the back of the horse and the horse leans his face to his head. Aeryon caress his head

"Go and eat" he said as he taps gently to his horse and his horse like it understand human words began to walk around the area and eating the grass

Aeryon seeing that the horse is further asway from him feel relieved.

"I need to try a bit to see whether this power is as powerful as I feel it is"

He stomp the ground and the ground shakes around him. There is a newfound might

"So, this is how it feels to have the power of eleven men"

"Let me try a few punch" Aeryon thrust his fist forward and the moment he thrust his fist; he could feel the mighty power of his punch.

BOOOM!

A resounding crack tearing through the air like thunder. The wind howls, the sheer force forces it to change course

"The strength of eleven men," Aeryon murmured to himself, his voice tinged with astonishment

"How about my jumping abilities?" he muttered to himself. The moment he thought about it, he quickly try it.

Aeryon launched himself into the air, defying gravity with an astonishing leap.

BOOOM!

The ground trembled beneath him as he soared higher and farther than ever before. He had jump nine feet on the air.

And then he fell back down to the ground

BOOOM!

Another sound of explosion echoes. His horse was shocked even in a distance. But looking at him and seeing nothing is happening, the horse went back to eat the grass.

Aeryon look at the ground.

The ground had cracked itself and his feet depressed the ground.

His physical strength is now quite overwhelming.

Aeryon choose to use all of his attribute points to one attribute. But then Aeryon quickly find what is wrong.

"Hah, hah" he pants again. He felt tiredness.

" I forget" he thought to himself. While his strength is now quite overwhelming, his endurance is still in the level of four points.

"There is connection between the two attributes" thought to himself

Even if he has great power, he needs to have enough stamina to do it. And now, there is an imbalance in his body

His strength has reached a powerful level. But his endurance still stays at that same level.

"But, I did not regret it" he thought to himself. He punches a normal punch and he could feel how his normal punch is enough to fell down a horse.

Even though he could not use the kind of power that break stones with a punch every time, just the basic strength is enough

He had used all of his Attribute points. And now, the only thing left is his skill points. He looks at his skill.

There is the Active skill and the Passive skill

His active skill is [Mighty Strike] [Unbreakable] and [Second Breath]

As for his passive skill, he has [Swordsmanship] [Archery] [Horsemanship] and [Stealth]

All of his skill, whether it is passive or active are all in the Beginner level. Aeryon had found out the ranks of the skill

There are five ranks of skill proficiency.

There is the Beginner level.

The Apprentice level.

The Expert level.

The Master level and then the last one is the Grandmaster level.

Passive skill could not be upgraded using skill points but active skill could.

"If it, could I want to level up my Archery abilities" One thing that Aeryon had found out, Passive skill is more general and broader.

Take for example his Swordsmanship skill. Swordsmanship has many techniques and schools of swords. In other words, the passive skill is like a normal skill.

A broad umbrella skill and below it is the specialization of said skill.

For example, swordsmanship if one master it, there might be some sword skill like Quick Draw, of Slash skills.

The same for Archery. There might be a skill for archery where he could use arrows to always get precise shot

At least this is his current understanding of the skills.

Like the attribute points, he has seven skill points.

"If only one point could be used to level up all skill up one rank, I would easily be able to rank up one of my skill to grandmaster level"

Aeryon had tinker a bit on his system even when he was busy looking over his tribe and delegating task.

So, he found out that each points required to move up a rank for a skill differs from one another.

For [Mighty Strike] to reach the Apprentice level, it requires ten skill points. And for [Unbreakable] skill, it took nine.

It is different for each skill. Aeryon shakes his head

"However, I want to confirm something" he muttered to himself.

He opens his status window and then look at the Mighty Strike skill. There is a smile on his face.

"How much is needed to rank up Mighty Strike to Apprentice rank?" the moment he asks this question in his mind, the information streamed into his mind and there is a smile on his face

"Just like I thought" he muttered to himself

Now, the points needed is only three points.

"I was right" he muttered to himself with a little smug smile on the comer of his mouth

[This skill is related to strength attribute. The higher the level of the strength, the more powerful this skill becomes]

That is one of the description of this skill.

So, he deduces that if the stats of the Strength attribute affected the power of this skill, it might also affect the points needed for this skill

So, he raises his strength and now that he checks again, the skill points requirement to rank up this skill had decreased

"Rank up the skill" three points of the skill points was deducted and then he saw that the rank of the skill had changed to Apprentice level

When he checks the description, it also changes

[Mighty Strike] [Apprentice]

It is a skill derived from the Strength attribute. With this skill, your melee attack become much more powerful.

With this skill you can deal significantly more damage to enemies, allowing you to take down foes with fewer hits.

If you use hand-to-hand combat or melee weapons, such as swords or hammers, your strike would become more powerful, adding half the original strength to your strike

The Mighty Strike skill can be upgraded as the host increase the proficiency of this skill, increasing the damage dealt even further.

You now posses great powerful strike.

With this skill, the host can become a formidable warrior, able to defeat even the toughest enemies with ease.

[Your punch now has the piercing effect]

[This skill is related to strength attribute. The higher the level of the strength, the more powerful this skill becomes]

Aeryon looked at the description and nodded

The change is that now his punch has piercing effect. Aeryon then check how much point needed if he wanted to rank up [Mighty Strike] to the Expert rank.

The information streamed into his mind and he sighed

The points needed would be around forty points

"That is a lot of points" he thought to himself.

But he is not that frustrated about it. Maybe, if he added more points to strength, later the points requirements would decrease just like it decreases this time.

"I don’t know how the system give evaluation for skills but at least this let me gauge the level of the power of that skill if its an attacking skill"

When he reached eleven point of strength, the Might Strike skill point needed to rank it up decreased because his base strength is already enough that even without the skill, his strike is mighty enough

He thinks of it simply like this because this system as of now is very simple

He looks at his other skill. [Unbreakable] skill is a powerful skill but he did not have enough point to rank it up before.

Like the [Mighty Strike] skill [Unbreakable] skill is related to strength

He now still has four skill points.

He checks it and he smiles
