Way of Overlord
Chapter 345: Four Steps

Chapter 345: Four Steps

He looks at the quest window again and he chuckles a bit

He already had some ideas on how to achieve all of this.

Usually, he would call Mayeux but it is not like he did not have his own thoughts.

Mayeux is needed when he wanted to find solution to something he is not adept with.

Sometimes, there are things he thought off but the solution could not be implemented because of the restriction of times and resources.

Between him and Mayeux, Mayeux knows more about the things that the tribes have and did not have.

Because of Mayeux, Aeryon could sometimes rest while Mayeux think of the logistic, supplies and all the other more miscellaneous thing that looks unimportant but actually vital to the operation of the tribes and the army.

In a way, he is a dreamer and Mayeux is the one that makes his dreams to come true.

And if the dream is too unrealistic, Mayeux would pointed it out to him and offer a strategy to try to make that dreams come true.

But for this matters he already has some strategy on how to deal with it.

There is only four things he needs to do to make sure that conquering the Southern Great Stpepe a success.

The foundation is already there. The plan of the west is already finalized.

As long as he could take the west, his victory is determined.

Maybe Aeryon underestimated the heroes of the world a bit, but right now he did not feel that he would lose.

He has Belarion, a sworn brother of himself and loyal to him. There would not be a story like Temujin and Jamukha.

Belarion himself is like a thousand soldier united into one. A God of War incarnate. And he is growing. The more he fights, the more he improved.

There is also Burchu. That young man is very powerful. With his spear, he alone is an enemy of one hundred men

That is how powerful he is.

Not to mention, he himself is a force to be recooked with. His military is also in high morale, well drilled, have enough food, enough armour, enough horses.

He also has a wise person like Mayeux helping him so how could he lose?

Aeryon already sees himself dominating the world.

But sometimes, arrogance is the first step toward defeat and Aeryon hsiemfl did not realize it that he is looking down on the heroes of the world

In history there is many people who thought they would have won the world but failed

Cao Cao nearly unified the world, but failed in the Battle of Chibi.

Battle of Waterloo break Napoleon and ended his reign and never again ever to stage a comeback.

Hannibal cross the Alps and it seems he is on his way to greatness, but in the end he become the stepping stone for the Roman general Scipio.

That battle of Zama ended Carthage dominance, and marked the rise of Rome

Harold Godwinson fresh off victory against Harald Hardrada thought he could fight two battles and win.

But he failed and was defeated by William the Conqueror at the battle of Hastings.

That defeat changes the entire history of England, and led to the Norman Conquest.

These figures share the common thread of nearing their ultimate goals only to be thwarted at critical moments, leaving their ambitions unfulfilled and their legacies marked by what might have been.

And Aeryon is like Cao Cao right now before the Battle of Chibi. He could already see himself holding the west and swept across the entire Steppe.

If not for the incongruency of culture, he would probably even laid out a huge banquet tent, call his warriors, drink and eat and then he would compose poems to indicate his ambition to the world

This is a taboo for any ruler.

Especially in such a turbulent period, in an age like this, of chaos and heroes and warlords.

Anyone who could survive this turbulent era would not be a mediocre person.

All the warlords, the chiefs that could be mentioned and have been making ruckus, all of these people should never be underestimated

Aeryon failed to remember that in the East, there is still Dama.

This is a person with great ambition. Mayeux repeatedly tell Aeryon to not forget about the east even though they focused on the west.

The west is for the foundation. It is a backup plans if the bid for the Southern Great Steppe is unsuccessful.

Mayeux think about failure before victory.

This allows him to maintain a somewhat cool head even if there is bad news.

Because he had already prepared for the failure, so even the most shocking defeat would not faze him.

He wanted Aeryon to win and he clearly wanted Aeryon to be the one that unified the Southern Great Steppe, then pointed his sword to the four directions of the world

But he did not lose the composure of being a strategist.

If the Brolgadhr tribe fail in that endeavour, then they should have a place to retreat towards. And the west is a place where Aeryon could designate as a place to retreat if the tribe failed to defeat the east, and the north.

Just because Mayeux focused on the west, did not mean he underestimate the heroes in the east, underestimate Dama

Heroes like that would not be brought down easily and Mayeux could see how Dama could become one of Aeryon stumbling block.

Jayeux, Mayeux disciple is very optimistic of Dama that he even left his teacher in order to fulfill his ideals

Ambitious talents would even fled him to find Dama and offer their service. How could such a person be a mediocre person that would wait for death?

Dama has fierce and bloodthirsty warriors that brings dread and fear in the hearts of the people.

They are disorganized, chaotic but hardy and in a narrow fight, Dama soldiers always wins because they are braver.

Dama himself has many fierce generals and he also has Katakura to advise him. He has his weakness, but he also have his strength

And the world is not like videogame. You could have tens of thousands of soldiers but numbers did not determine victory.

If that was the case, Aeryon and his tribe would have not been able to stage a comeback.

What about Vihur tribe?

The chief of Vihur might not want to fight and indecisive, slow to take action but he still has many powerful warriors under him.

And in the Vihur tribe, sometimes the great warriors of that tribe has more speaking power than the chief.

Who could predict whether they would win or lost?

In the west, the Cha Ner Ul alliance is strengthen their grip on the west

And in the west, there is also the longstanding tribe of the Bolghar

Bolghar tribe itself is not a small tribe that would easily capitulate. There is heroes rising all over in this troubled time.

Aeryon believe that if he takes the west, then there is only four steps he need to do to take control of the entire Southern Great Steppe

This is the strategy he come up with himself when he sees the requirements of the quest. His strategy look at the big plans and when it is to be implemented he would surely ask Mayeux to solve all the kinks.

The first step is using words

In other words, diplomacy.

he would use diplomacy to convince the other western tribe borders to submit to him.

The resources could be traded, protection could exchange for allegiance.

This is only possible now that Aeryon tribe is strong and they have the power to negotiate such term

To Aeryon , as long as Bolghar tribe could be removed from the west, the other tribe is just a small tribe and it would not be hard for Zlata, Duhai tribe and Khagai tribe to take control of the west for him.

The second step is developing the spy and espionage activities all over the Steppe.

Aeryon believe as long as he could develop a spy agency of his own, the subsequent battle and war among the tribes could easily be won by him

This is like hitting them with a knowledge the future. Aeryon grasped that the key essence to winning any war has always bene about information.

Of course, he also understood that any information is useless, if one could not utilise it well. Even if you know that the composition of an army and their plans, if you did not have an army of soldiers to counterattack or to defend, it is useless.

Retreat would be the only solution, hiding from danger and taking the chance when the favourable conditions appear.

This is the path that a small force could take. A small force of military might with abundance of information could take this route.

Retreat when being attacked harassed when the enemy is in rest.

But that is not what Aeryon wanted. He wanted information so that he could quickly unify the Great Steppe

Hence, the army needs to be stable first and then with the spy adding to the army strength, Aeryon could quickly unify the Southern Steppe.
