Chapter 177: Ota The Great Warrior of Khagai
At first, Valgrun thought of Aeryon as a rash person.
But then when he looks at the map and consider the alliances that Aeryon had made, Valgrun began seeing the genius of Aeryon plans.
There is a grand strategy that is at play here
BOOM!
The sound startles Valgrun and he look toward the source of the sound.
There is a sound of explosion in the distance.
It is the sound like a building crumbling.
Smokes rises in many places all over the city and even from the western gate, the Khagai tribe could see that the fire started in many places
From east to north, north to south.
Ota look at him and ask
"Chief?"
And Valgrun understood what Ota is about to ask and he nodded
"Gather the elite, break the gates and then take the riches of this city. Take the people as much as you can. Do not kill those who resist. Let’s trade people with that young chief. After all he wanted people"
Ota smiles and then he laughed
" Finally! I could fight!" he shouted and the warriors behind him, hearing Ota all cheers.
They have already been frustrated being left out of the besieging of the city. Seeing this Valgrun lock at his warrior and laugh
"I called this the starvation effect" he thought to himself. He know that his men are all dedicated warrior. And they wanted to fight.
They were different from the people of Yan who is afraid of fighting. Yan people are good at fighting with paper.
On paper, they exalted their men and general like godlike men and in the paper, they portrayed their men as virtuous and others as evil
When they frame it that way, they could annihilate other innocent lives easily. The narrative is that they are good and other people are evil
The truth however has never been that simple.
But Valgrun also knows, in war truth rarely matters to those who are fighting and those who have to die. It certainly doesn’t matter to the innocent souls.
For the soldiers on the ground, the innocent civilians caught in the midst of conflict, and even for the warriors themselves, survival and victory often take precedence over matters of truth or morality
Because they still have to fight.
War is like that.
However, the fight of taking this city, is not yet a war. At most it is a simple battle.
Valgrun shakes his head.
"I win" he mutters to himself as he look at his men
His men felt like bloated not being able to fight
The more they are like that, the more Valgrun would not let them fight.
He kept their desire to fight restrained and he waited until that restrain is about to break, and only then would he allow them to fight
With this kind of method, when they fights it would like unleashing starving lions to a group of weakened sheep
By keeping his warriors hungry for combat and then releasing them at the most opportune moment, he ensures that their morale and combat effectiveness are at their peak when they engage the enemy.
This approach not only takes advantage of the psychological and emotional factors that drive warriors to excel in battle but also minimizes the potential for fatigue and burnout.
It’s a tactic often employed by skilled commanders to achieve a decisive advantage on the battlefield.
If Aeryon knows that Valgrun employ this kind of tactics, he would be very much shocked and almost think like Valgrun like some kind of commander that learns from future methods. His method of fighting is unlike any of the tribal chief
He fights more like a disciplined general of a Roma legion.
The situation is all under Valgrun control.
With the combined forces of the Steppe warriors from the other three gates entering the city, the defenders of Nurshira are faced with overwhelming odds.
The siege, coupled with the simultaneous attacks on multiple fronts, has undoubtedly shattered their morale.
The analogy of unleashing a "starving lion" on weakened sheep aptly captures the situation.
This is why Valgrun compared them to weakened sheep.
And now, as the sheep is weakened, Valgrun would unleash a starving lion onto them
Valgrun smiles because he did not even need to see the battle to know that the win is already in the bag.
Valgrun laugh and his laughter filled the air, resonating with the confidence of an imminent victory.
Beside him, Ota, his formidable champion, leaped from the chariot, landing gracefully on the back of his waiting horse.
With an authoritative shout, Ota called for his weapon
"Spear!" he shouted and three people rush to him, holding a large and long spear.
Normally requiring three people to lift, this heavy spear is effortlessly claimed by Ota, who hoisted it with just one hand.
Ota laughed boisterously as he spun the spear above his head, creating an airwave above his head, like a gust of wind that spins around.
This alone shows how strong Ota is.
The enormous spear had proved too much for the trio labouring to present it to Ota.
Their brows glistened with sweat as they strained under its weight.
However, Ota raw strength is made unmistakably clear as he casually plucked the weapon from their grasp with just one hand.
"Men" he shouted and a hundred men heed the call
"Break the city gate!" Saying this Ota rode into battle without hesitancy.
Arrows whizzed through the air, but there was no fear in Ota’s eyes.
Instead, he laughed in the face of danger, inspiring his men to greater heights. His unwavering confidence served as a beacon of courage
Their commander is a man that they could trust their lives with and his arrogance embolden them
With a single mighty swing of his spear, Ota deflected hundreds of arrows as if they were mere leaves caught in a ferocious gust of wind.
His strength and skill were awe-inspiring.
"Weak!" he shouted and his voice pierce through the sound of twanging and screams.
"HOH!" the warriors of the Khagai tribe cheers Ota.
His horse thundered forward like a lightning bolt.
As he closed in on the city wall, Ota vaulted off his steed.
Whoosh!
The wind around him seem to carry him upward
The feet kick the air and he leaps high into the air
In one graceful leap, he soared towards the city wall, spear in hand.
With astonishing accuracy, he hurled the spear into the stone wall.
The weapon pierced the fortification, creating a makeshift platform.
Ota momentum carried him onto the handle of the embedded spear, like a springboard.
He catapulted himself upwards, executing a gravity-defying leap that saw him land with astounding precision on the top of the city wall.
It was a display of incredible strength, agility, and battle prowess that left those who witnessed it in awe.
The defenders were utterly shocked at Ota’s audacious feat.
"Attack him!" someone from the defenders shouted, and a wave of city guards rushed towards Ota. With his spear lodged firmly in the wall below, Ota currently had no weapons in hand, but his face displayed no hint of panic.
Laughing boisterously, he called out, "I have taken the city wall!" His confident proclamation hung in the air, a challenge to all who dared to face him.
Ttak!
Ttak!
Ttak!
The sound of rushing footsteps could be heard. Defenders from both directions is rushing toward him.
With one glance one could tell that It looks like a hundred defenders all rushing toward him wanting to kill him
Ota seeing this laughed
"hahaha! Good! Good! Only this way I could show you my true strength!"
Despite the relentless onslaught of a hundred defenders rushing toward him, Ota remained unfazed.
As a city guard swung his sword, Ota moved with lightning speed, the sound of the wind breaks as he makes his move
He dodged the strike with an almost effortless bend of his body, then struck back, his powerful punch sending the defender reeling.
"Uhuk!" the defenders coughed up blood but Ota did not stop at all
In a swift motion, Ota disarmed the guard, snatching the sword from his grip, and with a single fluid motion, he cleaved the hapless defender in two.
Oen aprt of his body fell to the right and the other fell to the left.
He laughed
"Hahaha!" he looks like a demon laughing like that as his body is covered with the blood of his enemies
Ota had now claimed his place on top of the city wall, and with his newfound weapon, he began to unleash utter havoc upon the defenders, each of his strike is like a dragon and each movement swift like lightning, blood pouring own from the crevices of the top city wall.
An awe-inspiring display of skill and strength.
Below, a battering ram is prepared ready to smack the city gate. With the distraction of Ota on top of the city wall, a hastily built battering ram that is constructed by the Khagai tribe finally could make its move.
BOOM!
BOOM!
The sound of the battering ram ramming the city gates echoes all over the western wall.
Its massive wooden head relentlessly pounded against the city gates, each impact bringing them one step closer to breaching the defense.
And there is some elite Steppe warriors using grappling hooks to climb the wall.
As Ota acted as the vanguard, boldly pushing through the enemy defenders and creating a gap on top of the wall, the elite Steppe warriors of the Khagai tribe skilfully utilized grappling hooks to aid their ascent.
From that newly cleared space, they launched their grappling hooks, expertly securing them in place, and began their ascent, rapidly scaling the city wall.
This coordinated effort showcased the strategic prowess and teamwork of the Khagai tribe’s warriors.
Valgrun look at this and he smiles
"With Ota leading the charge, this gate is as good as ours. The defenders is also demoralized after seeing the fires all over the city. Nothing is easier than breaking an army that is already afraid"
"And I think I already got what I want" he mutters to himself.
Then he took the reins of his chariot and move further away from the city wall.
He returned to his tent, where he could efficiently issue orders and continue to oversee the siege from a more tactical vantage point.
