Way of Overlord
Chapter 176: Layout

Chapter 176: Layout

And Valgrun has been thinking of this matter for the past few decades.

Unlike some other chief, Valgrun believe that the collective power of the Great Steppe if united, could bring about a great change to the world

While many other tribal chiefs might focus on immediate gains and the preservation of their own territories, Valgrun possesses a broader vision.

Valgrun understanding of the world’s geopolitical landscape, including empires like Yan, Roma, and Yindu, made him believe that centralized power is needed for the Great Steppe to also become a world power.

Because Valgrun knows that the world is big and vast. And the Great Steppe is but a small part of the world.

There is a wider and vaster world outside of the borders of the Great Steppe

Sometimes, he wonder what lies beyond the mountains range of Yindu? What lies beyond the large temple and building of Roma?

What is west to the Western Zhou. What is south to the south of Yan?

He heard there is seas, a body of water so large that the only thing you could see is water and nothing else

He heard that tehri is lands filled with island and island is like a floating stone on a large body of water. He heard there was a city of gold in some thick forest.

He heard there is giants heads on some island where people there practise magic.

He sees that uniting the diverse and powerful tribes of the Great Steppe could be a transformative force on the world stage, akin to the impact these empires have had.

Yan unification and transformation into an empire, Roma consolidation of power, and even Yindu history of fragmented states all serve as examples of how a centralized authority can have a profound influence over a vast territory and its people.

Valgrun belief in this potential collective power suggests that he envisions the Great Steppe as a force to be reckoned with on the world stage, not just a region of independent tribes.

If Aeryon knew what Valgrun is thinking he would think he meet a soul mate. Aeryon from the beginning of his action were all in the service of uniting the tribes

Because he too knows how powerful the Great Steppe could be if it could be united under one banner, under one flag

The sight of a million men on horseback riding all over the world, conquering the world on the back of a horse, such sight is not dream

Aeryon knows it could be done because he knows of such stories.

But Valgrun who did not have the same kind of insight as Aeryon did, held the same belief even without knowing of such knowledge.

Valgrun is even more of a believer than Aeryon is. If these two men knows each other thought, they might regret why they did not meet earlier.

Valgrun have such belief because he knows the ancient history of the Great Steppe from the Ashana and the Wizancai.

there is tales of the old empire but that was a long time ago, during the early Xun and Late Xun period

And it is said even before then, there was an old empire before the formation of Xun, around the time of the Seven Kingdoms.

So, Valgrun believe that there should be a unifier to unite the Great Steppe.

Of course, this wish of him is never been spoken

The prospect of a unifier signals a disruption of the established tribal order, an order that many are invested in preserving.

However, Valgrun recognizes that the survival and flourishing of the Great Steppe require change.

The old order, although once effective, is becoming increasingly inadequate in a world that is evolving. Without a shift, the Great Steppe may eventually succumb to the relentless march of time.

Valgrun could see clearly more than other people. This is the most opportune moment for the Great Steppe to rise.

He could see that right now Yan empire is in a state of chaos. But it is during this kind of time heroes would emerge.

Yan has long rest on their laurels and their internal ills could no longer be supressed. And so, it would explode violently like this.

Before it could reorganize itself, the people of the Great Steppe must rise. This is a chance that might never come again

And the rebellion on the Yan Empire is not the only reason why Valgrun decided that this is the moment for the Great Steppe to rise

The restlessness of Western Zhou, combined with the rebellion within the Yan Empire, presents a unique opportunity for the Great Steppe to rise as a significant player in the region.

As Western Zhou grows restless, it may divert its attention and resources toward external conquests or defense.

This shift in focus creates a strategic opening for the tribes of the Great Steppe to take advantage of the situation.

This is a time for the Great Steppe to assert its presence and establish itself as a major force in the changing dynamics of the neighbouring empires and states.

Western Zhou that would not let go of this opportunity to assert themselves and also take advantage of the current situation to strengthen themselves when Yan Empire is in chaos.

the turmoil within the Yan Empire provides a golden opportunity for Western Zhou to make its move.

Their historical view of Yan as a usurper dynasty, combined with Yan’s current state of chaos, makes for a compelling scenario for them to manipulate.

The weakened Yan Empire, with internal strife, a weak emperor, and regional warlords vying for control, is in no position to mount a strong defense against an external threat.

Western Zhou can take advantage of this situation to assert its claims and potentially regain territories it has lost during Yan rise to power.

If Western Zhou is to engage in a campaign to reclaim the territories it believes belong to the Xun dynasty and exploit Yan internal turmoil, it might find itself vulnerable to actions from the Great Steppe.

The tribes of the Great Steppe have formidable cavalry and a long history of raiding.

While Western Zhou focused on its southern ambitions, the Great Steppe could exploit this distraction to mount attacks or raids on Western Zhou’s northern territories.

As long as the various tribes can unite under a common cause and leadership, and the timing is right to seize opportunities presented by the larger neighboring empires’ conflicts and weaknesses....they could swallow the whole of Western Zhou

Valgrun sighed.

"And all it is missing is one link" he mutters to himself

Thinking for a decade, there is many methods that Valgrun has thought about to destroy the Western Zhou, then rode north to conquer the Western Great Steppe and take over the Central Great Steppe.

There is even a strategy to fight against the Yan dynasty.

But each method that he had devised could not be realized unless there is a true central authority on the Great Steppe.

His thoughts is quite different from many of the other chief in the Great Steppe.

But this is understandable. While Valgrun and his tribe fought against the Western Zhou, he in the course of fighting this enemy, they also picked up some things from them.

Decentralised states like them have its advantages but it also has its clear disadvantages.

The plans that he wanted to do could only be realized when there is order on the Great Steppe and lack of internal problem

Before, Valgrun did not even dare to entertain the idea of someone unifying the Southern Great Steppe.

Because the moment a chief began to expand, they would be banded upon by other tribes and cut down to size.

But then a wind of change began to blow.

When the news reached him for the first time of an upstart called Aeryon, he was looking at it with indifference.

It is not the first time a chief had risen the way that he did. Such stories is even more common in the Central Great Steppe.

One battle could not change the sickness of the Great Steppe.

And then a few weeks later, another news reach him and he raises his eyebrows.

Defeating the Xewa tribe and the Ghar tribe is one thing. But then, this young chief began to expand even more in just a matter of few days.

He makes four tribe surrenders to him, the Khamar tribe. The Ongul. The Kerey and the Jigorn tribe.

All of these four tribes surrender to him.

And then Valgrun began to become even more interested.

He opens the map and look at the expansion of the Brolgadhr tribe and he began to become even nor interested.

A few more weeks passes when another news come to him.

The Brolgadhr tribe in a swift attack, subjugated Kanun tribe, Khulun tribe made alliance with Chagai tribe vassalize Duhai tribe, subjugate Zlata tribe.

In just one campaign, another four tribes suddenly is now added under the banner of the Brolgadhr.

And unlike the four small tribes that Aeryon subjugated in his early expansion, these four tribes that Aeryon had taken is tribes that have great military power

And when he looks at the map again Valgrun was shocked to see that now, the Brolgadhr tribe in just a span of a few months has now rules all over the land on the lower south on the western part

And it is only then he could see the layout of this young chief.

At that time when he discover the layout he could not help but utter

"An Overlord is born!"
