Chapter 291: When The Night Was Full of Terrors [3]
[ZULA]
"Well, this doesn’t look good," Queen Liana said casually as if it wasn’t the biggest of deals right now. She had the heir to the greatest kingdom in her and was casually talking as if this was the calmest of situations.
"What do you suggest I do, leader-san?" Liana asked.
The leader stared at her in horror for a split second before he regained his composure. They were here for a mission and they had been told that they could either come back with the queen or the heir.
If they waited longer for the queen to push the baby out, they would be domed. Because the birth of a new heir would bring the Lycans to this very door and would force it open, which was not okay for anymore.
They would all be dead before anyone could blink. Funny how that was their situation at the moment. Maybe it was just Liana being calm again that made them all unsettled right?
"She will die if you don’t let her give birth to the baby before you leave," Arabella spoke, and the leader stared at her grimly. What she was suggesting made sense but it was not as sensible as standing there and being patient.
They would lose before shit went south and frankly, this was not the right time for anyone. Lives were already at stake and the longer they stayed the harsher the punishment would be.
"Lay her back on the bed," the leader said, and Liana smiled softly.
She had a feeling that he was not going to be as simple but to save the wives of the women here, she would do whatever their captives wanted. After all, she was just one life and she would be able to save the others.
"It’ll be quick. I heal pretty fast," Liana said and the leader stared at her apologetically.
"But that isn’t why you came all this way, is it?" Liana added as she studied the man’s face, making the wolves around them wonder what the fuck the woman was on about. At the same time, they shouldn’t have underestimated the woman’s intelligence.
She was the Lycan queen and she was better than what they were trying to push her into, right?
"Kill them all... except the maidservant. We have to leave someone alive to get the message out there," the leader said. Queen Liana stiffened. She knew her magic was at its weakest and there was no way out for her here.
She knew that she was out of bargains, especially when the screams of the women in the birthing hall began getting frantic. The wolves didn’t even hesitate to start murdering the poor mothers and their kids.
They didn’t hesitate to slay the poor women and the midwives.
It was a horrible sight; and the fact that even through all that the Lycan queen was left alive was shocking. Liana watched helplessly as she tried to send out messages to her husband, but there was nothing.
The mind links couldn’t be opened. It was then that she also realized that whoever was helping the wolves had to either be the strongest warlock out there or they had to be a group of several warlocks.
That was because the Hinata magic she held was never going to let them be just like that.
She tried though, to fight back, to even save her midwife, but she couldn’t. She was passing in and out of consciousness in shock as children were thrown around like they meant nothing.
"This is your fault, Liana. If you couldn’t have let your water break, we would have taken you and left. But now watch. We can take you out and leave the women here because the king will follow you there and you and it will be the worst possible thing for us.
You aren’t sad that this is just a job, right? One that we had to do because your husband is the beast that took our families, no?" the leader asked and Liana stared in silent shock. She couldn’t believe that this was really happening because of her.
The murders were swift and in less than ten minutes all the three hundred pregnant women and staff were dead. And then it was just a hundred wolves against Liana, seeing as they had demanded Arabella be left alive.
The endless screams of the women in the birthing hall were so loud that Arabella was sure she was deaf and yet even with all of that no one had come through for them.
Not the warriors right outside the birthing hall. The warriors were protecting a hellhole that had been turned into shit because of someone’s greed. Maybe they would forever blame King Zaffuto for this, but what the fuck were they supposed to make of it then?
"Please... don’t hurt her," Arabella pleaded before she tried to scream out for help.
But the wolves just laughed at her mockingly like they knew something that she didn’t. It was a horrible sight, something that would forever haunt the poor maidservant who had just come to be her queen’s aide.
This was not supposed to happen like this, but the fact that some of the staff had tried to fight and still ended up dead — despite being Lycans —was all that Liana needed to understand that the wolves had enhanced powers.
They were really getting their support elsewhere.
"We could take her baby and leave, but then the king will keep bringing more children though he will still have more heirs, Arabella. Do you understand what I’m saying?" the leader said and Arabella stiffened.
She was slowly understanding what the man meant. If they had taken Liana when the baby wasn’t so close, then she would have been of use to them because then they would have killed the baby and held the mother captive.
The king loved her so much that he would fight the entire realm for her. They would have the man on his knees, begging pathetically to have his Erasthai back. That was their intention.
But then the kid had shown up, which meant that they had to take the heir and take out the mother. It was a cruel logic, and as Arabella stared at the unconscious Lycan queen on the bed, she knew that even she wouldn’t be able to survive this.
She knew that there was never going to be a thing that would make sense about this, so defeatedly she made her peace with the fact that she would probably die today too. If not by the king’s hand, she would take her own life.
It was a decision so cruel for her, but what else was she supposed to do when she was already being haunted by the screams and pleas from the women who had just become slaughtered in the birthing half of all the places?
"Tear her apart and get that baby. We’re leaving with him," the leader commanded.
Arabella had the horror of watching the queen scream for mercy as they cut through her belly like it was nothing. They let her bleed out and got the baby out, leaving the queen open like she was just another useless woman in the realm.
"Send the king the message, before you take your life, sweet Arabella," the leader said before they all portaled out, leaving Arabella a crying mess. With the portals closed, the doors were opened, and the warriors and high guards were able to walk in.
And hell was what they saw.
