Chapter 290: When The Night Was Full of Terrors [2]

[ZULA]

"Liana Nakamura Hinata. Show your face and we will leave the women here alive!" the leader of the outsiders said as the werewolf scents made the women uncomfortable.

This was something that had not been expected and the fact that they had managed to breach the walls of a nothing half heavily protected by Lycan magic, could only mean that it was a royal who had gotten them to this place.

It didn’t make any sense that anyone would try and hurt the woman, much less the queen of hearts.

The woman was easily the best thing that had happened to all of them and it wasn’t even hard to tell that at this point in time. This right here was the worst of times for anyone to be showing up in the birthing hall.

Or had they lured the queen here because they wanted to eliminate her? All of these were just some of the thoughts that ran through the minds of the Lycan women with Liana there. They were scared as hell, but they were worse for the woman who symbolized hope for them.

"She is not here," Arabella, the queen’s maidservant, said confidently as she looked at the hundred men in the birthing hall. They were suffocating the women there, but Arabella was confident.

She wanted to prove that she was of some use to the kingdom after serving the queen for years on end.

"That’s a lie. A little birdie told us that the queen was popping the bastard’s heir today. So, which is it going to be? Are you going to try and save the woman who might be bringing another devil into this world;

"... or will you save the lives of these innocent women in this birthing hall?" the man asked and Arabella faltered. This man’s voice was filled with so much venom to the point that it was crazy how much spite someone would have for the queen of hearts.

Surely by now, everyone knew that the queen of hearts was the best thing to happen to the realm. So, it made no sense that someone wanted to take her out. It was crazy, and unfair to the people of Kawai.

That woman was their hope, their pride, and their reason to ever live and be pregnant in the first place. Liana had made the birth rates of Kawai spike because our presence assured the realm of a peaceful society.

She was known as the one person who had the power to decide whether the realm would be cold or hot and dangerous, and even with all that power, she had made sure that the realm was a balanced place by keeping her crazy husband in check.

"You heard what I said. If you want to be cruel and harm mothers who are at their weakest just because you’re looking for someone who isn’t here then have at it. Perhaps this is how you treat your werewolf women;

"...how would I know?" Arabella spoke, even though her confidence was slowly faltering. These men had blades and magic balls that could kill them all.

It was the kind of power that no werewolf was supposed to have and yet as she looked at them, they seemed overly confident. There was no morse or emotion in their eyes as they walked around the birthing hall, looking for the names that could coincide with Liana Hinata.

They knew how the system worked and Arabella’s heart broke at the realization that someone had truly betrayed them. Someone had betrayed the queen. Someone was trying to use the queen against the king and it was the cruelest of all fates.

This was not supposed to happen and yet here they were.

"If I kill this one who’s already pushing a baby out, it will be on you, Your Majesty," the leader said as he roughly grabbed the head of a woman who had just started pushing her baby out.

The head of the kid was out and if she just pushed one more time, she would be able to have it out of her. This was a cruelty that had never before been seen in the realm. Even the mad king was never this mad.

He never went after innocent women who were at their weakest and unable to defend themselves. It was cruelty at best.

"You wouldn’t," Arabella said, bargaining with the man.

"Oh, yeah? Well, let this serve as a lesson—" the man said, ready to strike the helpless woman, when Liana spoke up.

"I’m here. Let them go. Let her be. Let the nurses tend to the women and their children. It is me you want and whatever you need, just name it, and you will have it. If you want my head on a platter, you can have it.

"Just please, don’t hurt these women. Please," the queen spoke up, playing for the sake of the women in the birthing hall. For a moment, the man with the blade released the woman, before turning to the Lycan queen of Kawai.

At first, it was a shock to him; maybe because of how heavily pregnant the Lycan queen was, or maybe because of the obvious beauty that was staring right back at him. She was calm and too composed of the chaos in this place.

And when she had offered herself in exchange for the women, everyone had felt her sincerity. This was not a show to her or anything. This was a matter of real people’s lives and she wasn’t about to put them at stake.

Funny how her husband specialized in taking lives while she wanted to save more people.

"But your majesty..." Arabella tried and Liana just smiled at her, sadly.

"Not this time, Arabella. There are over three hundred women in the birthing hall. I can’t be the reason they don’t go back to their families. I can’t be the reason your lives come to pause.

"I knew my fate was sealed when I fell in love with the devil of the realm. Perhaps this is truly it for me. It is alright, don’t you worry about a thing," Liana said softly and Arabella felt tears threaten to fall from her eyes.

She was scared and she was finally letting her fear show. The way that life happened was too fast and she was not sure if there was ever going to be a magneto all of this. Her life was changing and so was the queen’s.

"Goddess, you are such a beautiful woman cursed to be with the worst of the worst, huh?" the leader said and Liana held the side of the bed she had gotten up from. She could feel her baby breaching, but she had to wait this out.

She had to hold on until everyone was alright. She may have been the most important woman here, but she had meant the things she had said to her high guards. In her, they were all just women who had come to give life, and that was all.

They didn’t want any drama or madness.

"What do you want with me? What are your demands?" Liana asked softly, her breasts heavy as she felt her son trying to come out. It hurt like hell, but she had to compose a half.

The midwife assigned to her could be the way she was dealing and frankly, she was scared of what this meant. If the heir died in her duty, she would be dead by the hands of the king, or maybe the queen would save her.

There was no telling what would probably happen to them.

At the moment, the only thing that could be done was to do as the wolves demanded, which was even far more insulting because Lycans were always going to be superior beasts to the wolves in any lifetime.

"Come with us and they all live. Refuse and they all die, your choice," the leader said and Liana looked around her one more time. She could see the women already in pain like her and she knew that she wouldn’t be able to stop these people from hurting them.

"Alright. But if you hurt them, I will personally have your head," Liana said and the leader just scheduled.

"I am a man of my word, Liana Nakamura. Come along," the leader said, right before Queen Liana’s water broke.
