"Killing is not your only talent, angel. Please remember that," Liana said and Zaffuto chuckled endearingly as he stared at her. He would fight and come back home to her. It was not up for debate anymore.

His life was hers and he would gladly give it up for her. He didn’t mind whatever the fuck was headed his way, but the fact that there had been threats against Liana had gotten him out of his comfort zone and into the battlefield.

"For you, Lili. For you, I would do anything. I promised you that before, and I make the same promise now, with the fates as our witnesses. I will come back before the sun sets today," Zaffuto said before he pulled her in for a kiss, tasting her honey scent before he left.

She was his greatest addiction and she knew it too.

Perhaps that was also why she was at ease with him leaving. He would come back because he had never once broken a promise to her in the years they had been mated and frankly, he wasn’t about to start today.

"Uhh... Zaffuto, we have to leave now," Lord Sadako said as he looked at the two love birds. He was already used to this, and honestly, he was glad that his brother had changed for her.

However, as he looked at the way Zaffuto was looking at Liana, Lord Sadako knew that his brother would be murdering a lot of people today. Sunset was a tight deadline, which meant that the king would be more brutal.

Oh, how Sadako felt terrible for the monsters that had tried to offend the Lycan queen. But then again, he won because they had to be taught a lesson. If they lost Liana, Kawai would never be livable.

Kawai would go back to being the hellhole it had been before and even worse. He knew it by heart because he had heard his brother’s thoughts as they were always sleepy, and Zaffuto was always, always plotting for vengeance.

He was a madman before, but now, he was the worst of all beasts. The worst part of it all was that he was a beast with humanity, and who could control his humanity. This was the worst version of the mad king and Sadako knew it too well.

"Bring him back to me, Sadako. Don’t leave him on the battlefield," Liana said to Lord Sadako who knew what that meant.

Queen Liana knew the mad king was immortal and that he would eventually come home, but sunset.

But she wanted the Lycan Lord to bring back the husband who was leaving now.

The Zaffuto who knew what life was and what humanity was. She wanted this version of her husband back; Liana knew what wars could do to the king. It was evidently a chance for him to taste blood, something that he had done for three decades and more.

It was just the greatest of all temptations right now and Liana had to pray to the goddess for mercy on her husband’s soul. She loved him and she was ready to fix him up. But that was only possible if Zaffuto remembered her and their bond.

If Zaffuto never lost his humanity out there.

That was only possible if the mad king didn’t completely give in to his beasty dark side, because if that happened even Ajab would be a historical storyline to him, and that was not something anyone in the realm wanted, ever.

"You got it, Liana. We will both come back," Sadako reassured, and Zaffuto just smiled at the two people he loved the most in his life. They were what life had become of him in the past three decades and honestly, they made life bearable for him.

It was not that hard for him to know that the future was not certain, but he hoped that the furniture would have his Liana and his Sadako.

They were family and family always fought to come back to each other, no matter what shit had to be dealt with in the long run. This was what fate looked like for Zaffuto and for a moment, he loved it.

"I love you, angel," Liana said softly before kissing him gently. She had always treated him like a fragile little thing and while Zaffuto never truly understood why she was daughter, he didn’t mind. He never questioned it, because his Liana was to get everything. Hel if she wanted him to be a dog on all fours, all she had to do was ask that of Zaffuto and he would be her pet no matter what happened.

"My life is yours, Lili. And if you command me to come back, I shall come back to you. I’ll be back, I swear it," Zaffuto said, his words not new to her because she had been hearing them a lot of times.

He had made sure to remind her what she meant to him and what his world was like. She was everything to him and he was never going to get tired of reminding her of the control she had over him.

It was boundless and limitless, and the mad king didn’t mind submitting to her.

After all, he was a king and he only ever bent the knee for his queen.

"Be well," Liana said as she bid her husband goodbye with a heavy heart. Perhaps because she was scared of the amount of damage her husband would be able to do in twelve hours.

The timeline was so little and yet the activities would be many. Liana Hinata didn’t need to be told what was expected on the battlefield; she had been training alongside the warriors of Kawai for a while now.

She had learned the aspects of war and she had read of them.

Of course, most of the wars had been led by her husband, but that made her want to know even more. She wanted to be useful to him if ever there came a day when she had to pick up her sword and defend their people or even her husband.

It was never something out of the question and while Zaffuto had objected to her wielding weapons earlier on, he had learned to trust her.

That was all she needed from him and perhaps that was also why as he was leaving with Lord Sadako, Zaffuto knew the kingdom would be in extremely good hands. He wasn’t worried about a thing.

"Always, Lili," Zaffuto said before they began walking away. It was almost bittersweet but the king was determined to come back to his Erasthai. She was his world and he would not break her heart regardless of what the battlefield looked like.

Maybe they were why he was excitedly looking back at her even as they walked away from him. He wanted her to know that he loved her and that he would never willingly leave her.

Then again, was it a must for him to say the very words that his affections and eyes had told his Erasthai? Perhaps it was just a need for the Lycan queen and whichever way shit turned out, Zaffuto wasn’t opposed to it.

"I love you," the mad king mouthed one more time.

However, right before he disappeared with Sadako, he heard his queen speak the words that he never thought he would get from her.

He wanted to say he was hallucinating and it was all because of the war, but then she had spoken in their mind link like they were scared words meant for just in ears and his alone.

For a moment, Zaffuto considered calling the bluff, but he was going to war and had a curfew.

His Erasthai wouldn’t have pulled such a joke on him, which was why the king stalled as he stared in the direction of the east wing of the palace, where the queen’s chambers were, and where he had just come from.

He could see her smiling at them, waving her tiny hands at him, as she held her chest, before her hands trailed down to her belly, making the king stare in desperation.

His eyes were filled with longing and pride, and he failed to hear Sadako call out to him more than once. Then again, how could he, when his ears were ringing with the words that had come from his Erasthai’s lips into their private mind link?

"Come back soon, angel... for me and our little angel... our little Kaito," Liana had said as she held her belly delicately as if to make sure the message was home. The message that would never leave her husband’s ears and mind.

This was going to be a really long day for the king.

"Oh, goddess," was all the king let out as Sadako dragged him away from the kingdom.
