Chapter 271: The Monster That Horrified Monsters [5]
[ZULA]
"I don’t think you understand. Please go back to bed. Zaffuto will be back as soon as possible. If I let you leave, the entire palace will be burned down and that is a large number too large. Please don’t condemn them for being cruel," Lord Sadako said.
Queen Liana just laughed again.
She was leaving and she had made up her mind. The way she was staring at Sadako, it was as if this was the one thing that not even he would ever be able to get her out of. It was a terrible idea.
Granted, there was a chance that she was not going to succeed in whatever plan she had in mind, but she had to see it through. She was not going to let herself be the woman without a husband on the night that was supposed to mean everything to the both of them.
Then again, she was dealing with the mad king, a man who didn’t even have humanity to spare. Surely, she should have expected thighs to change from the moment he had spent the past three days with her and around her, right?
This wasn’t supposed to be new but then why did Liana feel like she still had a chance to change things and make it all alright for her and her husband?
"I’m not running away, Sadako. I am going out for a walk. And before you talk about guards, no one is to follow me, or I might order them into killing themselves. I am mated to the craziest man alive, don’t make me use that to threaten them, alright?" Queen Liana said.
Sadako knew he was never going to win with her. He didn’t want to win, but there were lives at stake. Then again, she knew what she was getting into and Sadako had a feeling that she was being honest with him.
Besides, even if Liana was to run, there was never going to be a place for her to run to. The entire realm was scared of the Lycan king, her Erasthai. No one would want to harbor her, not even the animals in the forest.
If she left, then she would be on her own, alone, and unprotected. If anything happened to her, there was a chance that Zaffuto would burn down Kawai just because he could. The stakes were a little too high, and Liana knew that.
Maybe just this time the Lycan chief needed to let loose and see for himself what would happen with the woman, right?
But what if he was wrong?
What if Liana tried to make a run for it, and even worse, what if Liana tried to kill the king just because they had a mate bond? What if Liana tried to use the sacred state of their bind to mess with Zaffuto?
Oh, but that way something that Sadako couldn’t quite out past the woman before him. She had proven more than once that she was a tad unhinged as the king and frankly, this was unchartered waters that they were on.
Whatever was in her mind, Sadako could only hope it didn’t have anything to do with the way that life was slowly changing around them. It was a chance to make things right and restore the mad king’s faith in humanity. The queen could do that... right?
"But your majesty..." Sadako tried even though he could already see that she had made up her mind. Perhaps he wanted to make it seem like he didn’t completely give up on her before she went into the craziest of territories, no?
"Liana. Just call me Liana," she said as she looked at Sadako earnestly.
She understood him, truly and she knew what her worries were. It was clear as day and with the way that cans were staring at her from the shadows, she figured that she had to try and make it all make sense.
All she had to do was wait and hope that shit would be alright... Well, it would have worked if the queen was as patient.
"Liana... this is not going to be easy for you," Sadako said.
Liana laughed lightly. She was doing that a lot and by now, Sadako figured that laughter was her only way of escaping the possible hell she was forced into by the fates.
He didn’t have the strength to sit her down and feed her stories about how life was better for her now that she was the queen. The woman had the position that no one in the realm had ever asked for.
No woman or man had ever wanted to be mated to the monster that went around fucking lives like it was his daily bread. They were scared of him, and there wasn’t much that could be done to change that.
At least that much was obvious in the way that the Lycans were staring.
The realm itself was a pit hole that was filled with raging warriors and other factions that wished for the king to be gone, and with the way that he had a mate, they were probably already planning to take out the mad king.
Perhaps that was what Liana feared the most. Maybe it was her motivation to get out and go look for him, but was she going to look for him? Was her walk limited to what whims she wanted to feed herself?
Or was this what her decisions had gotten her this time?
Oh, but there was a lot of work waiting for her to sort, but Liana was a determined woman who was going to get what she wanted. It was so easy for her to think like that, even in the face of the worst danger possible for her.
"I know you don’t know much about me, despite the fact that he’s been hovering over me for the past hundred years. I don’t blame you for that, but please, just trust me on this Sadako.
"I will bring him back, even if he has to kill me in the process, and comes to bury me," Liana insisted determinedly. It was almost like she had gone crazy, which was the greatest probability at the moment.
No one in their right mind ever thought that of themselves and the creepiest creature in the realm. She wanted her Erasthai home and she was willing to make a deal with the devil for that.
Perhaps she had truly seen Zaffuto’s potential as a good person, but would that ever be enough? The man had so many people hunting in their own way. Up until three days ago, the realm was at a standstill on what to do with the craziest Lycan.
And then the fates gave them a chance to do what they wanted. The chances that Liana was their target were high as fuck, but even then, Liana didn’t seem so bothered. All she wanted was Zaffuto back and she would bring him home, come hell or sunshine.
"Be safe, Liana... My brother can be difficult," Sadako warned softly.
"Don’t worry, Sadako. He is mine, however difficult he is," Liana chuckled before she hugged Sadako and sent the Lycan Lord to bed. It was strange, but it got everyone in the palace curious.
The tiniest woman unfortunate enough to be mated to the devil was leaving the palace and potentially making herself a target just to bring back the worst of their kind.
Perhaps there was no hope for them after all, right?
Or perhaps Liana was the solution to their lifelong misery, right?
Oh, but was she?
