Chapter 262: The Flower Bouquet From Hell [2]

[GREALOR]

"You think he would have done that with Daniel by his side? The same kid he broke bonds with just to make him feel comfortable in Kawai? you think he would traumatize the one person his son cared about since childhood?" Gabe asked.

It did not make sense. The king had taken everyone Tamiko loved under his wing. The mad king was aware of the fact that his son and Daniel had to have gone through in Grealor. He was aware down to the tiniest detail.

That was something the king wouldn’t have wanted his son or his friend to go through again. Gabe was trying to make his people see sense but their adamance was something else.

Denial was always cute and shit, but not when they were up against the worst Lycan ever alive. It was something then they had to comprehend and the sooner they were faced with the facts, the easier it would be for them to understand what life was all about.

This was a death wish and they had the chance to avoid it at all. They had the chance to redeem themselves and yet for some reason, the alpha was uninvited that they still had a chance. Maybe they had, maybe Gabe was being delusional again. Was he though?

"You’re not making any sense," Zakhar said and Gabe wished he could punch some sense into his best friend. They had eyes. They had to have expected that. They were all intelligent here so why the fuck were they acting like they had their brains in their asses?

"Listen to what I am saying. All the kills outside Kawai were Tamiko’s. He murdered all three rogues of the free lands. All of them. Not one was left standing. He murdered the people who were in his way as he looked for the barbarian.

"He took out everyone, including ancient men and women. He eliminated them all," Gabe explained desperately. He cared about his team and he knew that not even Zula’s magic would ever be as strong as the king’s magic.

It was something that Gabe had proved to himself when he had seen the way Zula had come to Grealor. It was not a path he wanted to see his friends take again.

He couldn’t stomach the thought of losing them all and yet for some reason, the bastards were convinced that life was always going to be as simple and as beautiful as the chaos outside made them believers.

They were hopeless and disheartening. They had to let themselves see sense. That was all that Gabe could hope for at this moment. It was the only way out if they wanted to save so many of their people. It was the only way.

"Impossible. Zaffuto came to me with the stench of death on him," Zula argued, making Gabe facepalm.

"Hasn’t he always been a murderer his entire life? Why would he not have the stench of death on him? Or you forgot what he did and how he terrorized the realm before and how he made Kawai the most dangerous side of it all?" Gabe asked the obvious.

He was getting pissed off with every word that came from Zula’s mouth, he couldn’t believe that they were willing to argue with him about this until the very end.

They would all die, it was clear and if they went ahead to go after Kosta, they would die sooner than anyone had thought. What use would that have been for them then?

"Do not sell us fear. Gabriel," Ashton warned.

"Fine. If you don’t want to believe me. There are three hundred missing wolves in Grealor. They are the wolves who lived around the place where Tamiko had his cabin where he lived.

"They tortured him the worst over the years and suddenly they’re missing. But hey, it wasn’t Tamiko, right? It had to be Zaffuto, the mighty mad king with all the power in the world. Tell me something, Zula.

"When the king came after you, was he bloodied?" Gabe asked.

Zula groaned in discontent. She wasn’t going to do this with Gabriel; she couldn’t. Because if she did, then she would be reminding herself that she was a marked target for her brother.

If they kept going after Konstantin, they would die miserable deaths. It was clear to everyone who knew the mad king, so why was Zula holding back the truth? Why was she trying to lead them into a dead end that even she knew would never be for them?

Was it always going to be that separate time for them when they were home? Would home even mean anything once this was done and dusted? Would it ever be worth it?

"Zaffuto is a man of impressions. He loves to let everyone know that he’s coming," Zula said.

Gabe stared at her like she was answering her own question.

It was like the denial may have been great but they had to try and make sense of the madness.

Contradicting herself was never a thing for Zula yet as she stood there watching the alpha pace while the warriors listened only and deeply in their thoughts, Zula knew what was coming next.

She knew what this meant.

She knew that all would change if she agreed with Gabriel.

She was painstakingly aware of it but she was choosing to stay silent. That was something she had to do, for her sanity. Her brother was worse than the devil and he was always good at all the games played against him or with him.

He was a grand master and Zula was aware of that too.

"So somehow he just showed up at your place, clan, and without any stench of blood?" Gabe asked, already calling the bluff. There was just no way this woman could be that stupid.

The king was the king.

And they had to think like him right now.

But would it do them any good?

"He had blood on his clothes. Even Daniel had blood on him," Zula insisted and Gabe felt like punching the shit out of the woman before him.

For someone who claimed to have been to war and back, this woman was nothing close to everything they had worked for. She was crazy. She couldn’t think and Gabe wasn’t ready to go into war with a woman who couldn’t see shit for what it was.

"If they were out for five days, the blood should have been a mix of fresh blood and those that had dried up on them. You said it yourself. The king always wants people to know what he does and how he does it.

"So why wasn’t he in the state he always was in?" Gabe asked, his questions triggering Zula even more. They were the reminder that she had been drunk on her pride with the Lycan barbarian and that she had forgotten what was important.

She had let her guard down and while her ass had been handed to her, she had also managed to fail spectacularly. That was why she wanted to go back for a second chance, but she wasn’t so willing to voice that bit out yet.

Well, Gabe could see it in her, and he hated it.

"you’re crazy. There ain’t much to think about her. Anyway, we must find a way to capture Igor," Ashton insisted and Gabe was just done with them. He couldn’t deal with this shit now.

"You will remember this day," Gabe warned.
