Chapter 259: All Between The Wars

[GREALOR]

The declaration by King Zaffuto was one that ruined so many plans for the realtor wolves. None of them had expected it that soon and it was showing with the way that Zula and Ashton were running around the pack house like a storm was coming.

It was the kind of shit that no one would ever willingly subscribe to and it was disheartening, to say the least. The danger was right there for them and they couldn’t even deny it.

The king had indirectly declared an all-out war on anyone who tried to hurt his son and his son’s Erasthai. There wasn’t much to think about because Zaffuto Hinata was a man of his word and he wouldn’t change that for anything.

He had let everyone know of these changes and that this time, there was not going to be a chance for them to dally around. It was a hard call, but then it was the one thing that they all had to deal with regardless.

In the pack house, there was a tormented duo, who knew that hell was finally headed towards them. The king had not just made a declaration. It was a warning that he was coming for all that had put him in that position.

A reminder that the wolves would pay the price for what had happened. That declaration was the reminder that their fruitfulness needed to understand that life was never going to be the same for them.

It was a fate that had been cursed one too many times before, and right now, it didn’t matter how things had gotten because, at the end of the day, it wouldn’t matter what side of the world they lay on.

The wolves were the target.

The king had spoken.

And his subjects would follow.

"We should attack before that kid takes the crown," Ashton suggested as he stared at Zula. They were running out of time and Ashton knew it. He could tell that the clouds had long gathered and it was just a matter of time before the era began hitting them.

This wasn’t how it was supposed to be, but at the same time, they truly didn’t expect Zaffuto Hinata to be cooped up in the place forever, right? The man had things to hope for now, things to fight for, and more than anything, Zaffuto had retribution that was owed.

He had to make it come true and Ashton already knew who the first target of the king would be. Perhaps time would change so many things but then time was just another construct.

It was just something they lived through and tried their very best not to pay attention to because, at the end of the day, the only thing that mattered was how life was for them. Funny how that was also about to be flipped.

"That is stupid. The kid is not a target right now. Our target is Igor Konstantin. We will have to rally more packs to join us in this," Zula said as she dismissed alpha Ashton’s desire to go after Tamiko.

Ashton had seen just how cruel the broken kid could be and frankly, Tamiko scared him more than the mad king. Tamiko was what danger was to him and he horrified the poor alpha to the core.

Tamiko had made the alpha into a circus and He had managed to make the Alpha fear his own shadow. It had taken a while for alpha Ashton to get over the fact that he was in a wheelchair, stuck so badly that not even Zula would have tried to save him.

It was a cruelty that he never thought about one too many times but on days like these, he wished there was more that he could say to make Zula understand that they were up against the worst of the worst.

It was not just a horrible dream anymore and Ashton knew that too well.

"Are you sure they will be willing to risk all that? I am in a wheelchair because of him. Not even you have been able to get me out of this, that is how crazy his magic is tethered or the forces of the realm.

"What the fuck am I supposed to do like this?" Ashton asked as he tried to make sense of the plans that Zula was having.

It wasn’t making sense to Ashton.

It was not something that he could comprehend and he refused to think that the woman understood what he meant. Tamiko had taken his legs regardless of the circumstances and no amount of magic had been able to make the alpha feel better.

It was like they were all powerful for nothing, which was not even comforting because how the fuck was he supposed to be on the battlefield when his entire life was suddenly getting reduced to a circus-like now?

Was it ever going to be okay or was this just another aspect of life that would forever never make it any better for the alpha?

"Tamiko murdered over seven hundred elves. And those are the ones that we could account for. Zaffuto murdered way more. We can either be sitting ducks and wait for them to come after us, or we can pick up arms and fight," Zula reminded.

Ashton centered on that choice. It was almost like Zula was bound to what condition he was in. The woman had the ability to move around freely while he was just a man who had so much to lose and not even the best strategies to guarantee anyone’s safety.

It was almost like his life had changed and there wasn’t much that could be done for it. Perhaps at the end of the day, it was never going to be easy, no? But what if? What if there was more to this?

What if there was a chance that life was never going to be as bad for Grealor?

What if they had a head start and managed to challenge the worst breed of the Lycan out there? Was it ever going to be a possibility or was this just a long game that would gradually benefit them?

"It is not going to be easy," Ashton argued and Zula sighed. She had expected this. Of course, they were up against the craziest of them all, but what else was she supposed to expect? She sort of regretted not being Tamiko’s ally over the years.

She should have been able to defend the kid and get the upper hand when it came to Zaffuto.

It was clear that Tamiko was the apple of the mad king’s eye. He was the enemy that the king wouldn’t hesitate for and if she had thought that way earlier, they would have been able to use the kid against his father.

It would have been the perfect win for them, but now all that they had was nothing.

They didn’t have even the slightest clue of what was expected of them. They were supposed to be the smartest in Grealor and yet it seemed like that was just a title that meant nothing.

Against King Zaffuto, everyone was nothing. If they had thought about Tamiko earlier, perhaps all of this would have been different for them, right? Perhaps it wouldn’t have been as hard to understand that shit was never going to be the same for them.

Perhaps it was what everything was supposed to be like and frankly, it was unsettling and terrifying. Maybe this wasn’t going to be the last ten they did this, right? Oh, how they had wished.

"No one said it would be easy. We are targeting the Lycan throne, Ashton. You more than anyone should know that so much is needed to make that happen," Zula reminded harshly like Ashton didn’t understand the magnitude of what they were dealing with.

It was insane how life had changed fast but the years that had passed should have had them flexing on what they had done. But then again, maybe they had imagined that the mad king would never run out of his grief.

Queen Liana Hinata was everything to the mad king. She was the best part of his life and the light that made him approachable. Without her, he had not even gone to being the worst around, the man had become a shell, a mourning shell.

He had spent his days wallowing in his chambers without having a thing to hold onto. Maybe that’s why it was easy for the wolves to think that they had the upper hand. It was insane how they were doing this with the man who had been known to bring down civilizations.

"How could I forget? Anyway, we need the kids on this one," Ashton said after a long pause. He had tried to think of an easier way out, but then with his condition, the kids were the best way out of the madness.

Perhaps they would be able to have a different approach than Ashton and Zula would ever have. Perhaps it was just them gambling once again, but life was meant to be loved like that, right?

"Yeah, we do. I just hope your son isn’t obsessed with Tamiko because otherwise, he will be the reason all of this falls apart," Zula pointed out, much to Ashton’s displeasure.

Gabriel still had a weakness of the Hinata boy, and despite the endless ties that the bonds had been broken, anyone with eyes could see that Gabe was naturally in love with Tamiko.

It had never been about the bond for him and that was why he had been devastated over the years despite what they had been through. For him, Tamiko was his first and greatest love.

"Fine," Ashton signed before calling for Gabe, Ciel, Zakhar, and Maki via the mind links. Meanwhile, Zula did the one thing that Ashton thought was impossible, right as the kids walked in.

Oh, but it would be a long day.
