Chapter 255: Lying On The Floor When I Break Through
[TAMIKO]
Sleep was slowly becoming an enemy for Tamiko.
He had tried his very best to catch up on sleep since the kidnapping of his omega, but he had gotten an ounce of sleep.
Granted, at the time he had tried to keep his distance and give the space he wanted, but it still didn’t explain why weeks later, he was still in the same position. It was pissing him off and a part of him knew to give in to what was seeking him out.
The rage that came with losing his omega.
The disappointment of not being able to communicate properly with Kosta even though he was a Lycan prince. What use was his status when he couldn’t even protect the one man who meant everything to him?
It was something that had gotten him wondering what the world was like beyond where he was. He had murdered so many wolves in the name of his Erasthai, but even that hadn’t been enough to quell the rage in him.
It only made him angrier.
And when his father came with his Erasthai, he had tried his very best to stay away.
At the time, he had told himself that it was for the best. He had used the excuse that Kosta didn’t want him around to keep the flame of his rage alive, but even he knew that it was just a matter of time before he couldn’t use that excuse anymore.
Earlier today at the assembly with the new council, Tamiko knew he had to think and fast. He couldn’t let his Kosta see him like this. He was supposed to be the calm prince he had promised to be.
He was supposed to be good, the person who created the balance between good and bad. He was supposed to be better, but what was better when his nights were haunted by the horrors of what Zula could have done to his Erasthai?
He hated the woman with all he got and honestly, it was keeping him awake more than he could ever admit. He hated every aspect of the life he had been drawn to, but never more than that, he hated the way that his Erasthai had been whisked from right under his nose.
Kosta bore his mark – the one thing that was supposed to keep people away – and yet even then, there were people who hadn’t stayed away. There were people who never got the memo and it got Tamiko wondering what the fuck he had gotten himself into.
"You need to sleep, Kaito. You can’t stay awake your entire life. You will be exhausted and there won’t be an easier remedy out of that," Lord Sadako said as Tamiko walked into the palace kitchens.
It was a little past midnight and the young prince had been unable to sleep as always. The coffee he always got for the kitchens kept him sane, but only till morning came and then he was back to being himself.
It was a truth that didn’t sit well with him, but what other option was there for him? He had nightmares thinking of what Kosta could have had to endure when he was captured and he didn’t want to rest until he got the answers he needed.
He was a desperate Erasthai and he wanted something to hold onto, something that didn’t involve his Erasthai’s wounded soul. Something that screamed mercy for the Chief who loved him wholly.
Tamiko had wanted an easier way for his Kosta and yet as the days kept bleeding, and time went by, there wasn’t a definite answer for Tamiko.
And that always managed to end with him at the palace kitchens, while his side of the bed stayed cold even though he had the best Erasthai that the midnight moon would have given him.
The midnight moon had given him something to cherish and he feared losing Kosta. It was a truth he only ever admitted to himself whenever he was alone and away from everyone. But his uncle was never one to be fooled.
Lord Sadako was always watching out for the kid, always trying to be the cushion for him and the real world. Right now, as he looked at his nephew, the Lycan Lord could tell that there wasn’t much that he could say to make the kid leave and go to sleep.
He wanted to offer to take the nightmares away, but it was just a matter of time before Tamiko was triggered again and he would have to face them either way.
"I always sleep, uncle. You worry too much," Tamiko responded softly, his attempts at sounding normal clouded by the way he was faltering easily. He was a man who was defeated and his body had taken the toll of exhaustion.
It was something that made Tamiko want to jump out and about, in the worst of ways, but even he knew that there were just some things that he had to embrace regardless of what was meant for him.
His loneliness was crazy given he had an Erasthai but at the same time, he ended up with someone to talk war with, someone to discuss the art of murder with and he didn’t want his omega to be the person for him. Oh, how the kid was a desperate one.
"The nightmares won’t stop until you ask about it, you know?" Lord Sadako said as he stared sadly at the kid before him. It was not difficult to tell that the Lycan Lord loved his nephew a tad too much and that at this moment, he was contemplating a lot of things for Tamiko.
However, even though the mighty Lycan Lord knew that there were just some things that the kid had to learn to deal with, on his own. It was never going to be easy and they couldn’t always be there to make life better for the kid.
He had to face this, but damn was it a hard call for the Lycan Lord.
Was it always going to be like this?
Tamiko stared at his uncle in earnest defeat and pure sorrow, almost like he had lost everything there was to be lost. The young prince knew what that meant and he hated that he knew it a little too well.
It was the same thing his uncle had been suggesting for the past few weeks and Tamiko didn’t see a way out. He just didn’t even think that was possible because the pain was all he had seen on Kosta’s face back then.
It broke his heart and Tamiko refused to be the reason his Kosta had to go back into that hell. He couldn’t stomach seeing him in pain again. It was just not the right path for him, and until all options were exhausted, Tamiko was hoping to nudge Kosta with that.
He wanted his Erasthai safe, and to feel loved. Funny how he was showing that by never staying in their bed every night. Was it ever going to change for them? Perhaps there was a timeline they had missed and one that Tamiko needed to lean into, right?
"He was captured for five days, uncle. Five long days and all I ever did was murder people and question his best friend over and over in the worst of ways. If he knows what I did to Akila, he will never forgive me..."
