Chapter 241: Standing Underneath The Exit Sign

[TAMIKO]

Days didn’t seem to go by as fast as Tamiko wanted them to. It was as if he was looking forward to something, anything – which was strange given the way that everything had been settled.

Kosta was still adamant about getting Tamiko back and Tamiko was determined to let everyone know that he was without his humanity, even though he had regained his humanity the same day that he had flipped the switch.

He had struggled against it, but he was a Hinata Lycan at the end of the day.

Life was always going to be the same with or without his humanity – the only reminder that Tamiko needed to know that he was born into a family that was known for its peak madness.

But then that didn’t seem to be a problem for the young Lycan. It did seem like the world was spinning just fine for him and that he wasn’t going through shit. His father had tried to talk to him about Kosta a few times, but Tamiko had dismissed him.

Instead, the young Lycan had managed to convince his father to teach him the history of the Hinata house. It was complex, but for Tamiko, it was worth more than just sitting around wallowing in sadness and emptiness.

He hated the space he was giving Kosta, but his Erasthai had been the one to ask for that first. So, he didn’t need to feel guilty, and yet somehow his heart ached almost all the time for the love that he could have saved.

Oh, but Tamiko was at a loss.

Danny was doing great learning about the role of a Lycan Lord with the help of Lord Sadako, but even they were worried about Tamiko.

If anything, they were worried about the father and son, who had both seemed to have forgotten that they were the rulers of the kingdom and not their Lycan Lords. But then it wasn’t like Lord Sadako and Lord Daniel were about to go to their masters and ask how they were feeling, right?

"Oh heyy, you’re here again?" Tamiko asked as he looked at Sanji, or rather, Sanjiro, the man he had figured was the mole in the Kawai kingdom for the Grealors.

It had taken a little snooping into his father’s head in the past few days for him to learn about the amount of betrayal that Sanji had been tabling against Kawai to their enemies.

It was also then that Tamiko had learned about the Furfantes, but then Tamiko didn’t share that information with anyone.

Not even his dearest papa.

Oh, he was waiting for the day that Sanji tried to make amends, but that didn’t seem to be a thing of the present or anytime soon, seeing as Sanji was oblivious to the shit that Tamiko knew.

He couldn’t understand the Grealor outcast because honestly, he alone had seen the way that Tamiko had been at Greater and he knew that Tamiko wasn’t as intelligent. And he was here to exploit that.

Then again, was that a truth that he wanted to conform or was he just running blindly based on what he had gathered from the wolves and Zula herself?

This was a risk that he was taking and there wasn’t a soul on Kawai that would save him once he crossed the bridge and decided to play mind games with the child who had the most tortured existence in all of history.

But hey, all smiles for the Lycan prince in the hope of learning what he was like right?

"I’m sorry, I was just passing by and saw you here. I didn’t mean to intrude though. If you want me to leave, I can," Sanji said and Tamiko let out a soft laugh.

He was enjoying the charade that the traitor was putting in front of him and right now, with the weight of everything off his shoulders, Tamiko had time he had all the time in the world to play catch with whoever thought they were smarter.

Frankly, Sanji here was his first exhibit.

He would just wait to see how shit went on but at the end of the day, someone had to pay for the horrors that Tamiko had endured in Grealor and if that had to mean getting close with one of the Furfantes, then Tamiko would do it without asking questions.

"Oh please... you just want to make Kosta jealous, don’t you? You know he is staring right at us and he’s probably burning holes in your head, no?" Tamiko’s aid softly like it was the one thing that he didn’t care about.

Honestly, at this point, there wasn’t much that Tamiko had hoped for. His Erasthai hated him and wanted space. He wasn’t about to pretend like the days before the tragedy never happened.

And right now, Sanji was trying to manipulate them into whatever the fuck he was thinking. And the worst or best part of them all was that Tamiko was leaning into it. It was crazy because life wasn’t supposed to be this complicated.

Hells would be damned before Tamiko let himself be heartbroken a third time by Kosta.

He didn’t care that Kosta would always come back, what mattered was that he at least had his sanity when Kosta came back, and if that meant driving the Lycan Chief a little nuts, then Tamiko was willing to do that without a pause.

"Nah... he would never look at me. The man has eyes for you. He bears your mark and is your Erasthai," Sanji said earnestly and Tamiko scoffed.

Of course, he knew what that meant for him.

He was bound to Kosta for the rest of his life unless Kosta wanted to reject him. That was the one possibility that Tamiko was hoping for by interacting with Kosta.

At the moment it had been over ten days since he had talked to Kosta from the day that he had threatened a rejection and frankly, Tamiko was convinced that as days went by, Kosta was getting firmer in his decision to reject Tamiko.

It was a first line of thought, and Tamiko refused to be there to listen to Kosta reject him. That was why he avoided his Erasthai even at the dinner table. It was an agonizing slow torture for the both of them, but something to give, unfortunately.

It was a reality that they had to deal with and endure because, at the end of the day, there was a way going to be more to life than the madness that had been calling out to them.

Perhaps It was the kind of life that no one ever bargained for and the kind that had changed everything for them. Maybe this was what life would be like, but was it right even so?

"Well, that’s unfortunate. I almost thought you wanted him back then," Tamiko said like it didn’t bother him, then the only reason Sanji was alive next to him now was because he needed to press some buttons and see how jealous Kosta could get.

It was a terrible game and someone could get hurt. And Tamiko was honestly thinking that Sanji could be that someone.

"It’s a good thing it’s in the past, otherwise it’d be embarrassing for me. Anyway, you seem interested in books, mind if I take you on a stroll in the old library?" Sanji asked and Tamiko smirked as he looked at Kosta.

"Lead the way."
