Chapter 239: Well, Hate Me Tomorrow, Love
Chapter 239: Well, Hate Me Tomorrow, Love
* Long Chapter Alert!
[KAWAI]
In the king’s study, the Lycan king and his brother were staring at each other, contemplating what the fuck had happened. None of them had been able to understand the logic that Tamiko was using right now, but one thing they were both certain of was that this wasn’t just any tantrum.
This was a chance at a new reality that had been seeking them out for the longest time and it was their time to decide whether they would live their lives or be the aid that the kid in the distance needed.
It was almost a cry for help, one that they were tempted to truly answer, but also one that they didn’t understand where they would begin. This wasn’t the easiest of cases they had ever dealt with and it wasn’t like they could use their powers as the leaders of Kawai to do damage control.
This was different and more delicate than anything that they had ever come to deal with over the past few years.
Perhaps that was also why they were being extremely careful not to hurt the young prince, but that didn’t make their confusion any easier even as Zaffuto paced around the room, almost like he was determined to dig a hole in his own study.
It was chaotic, but it was also a reminder that at the end of the day, they would always have something there that was their bane.
They were the most powerful beings and yet they had been brought to order by a Lycan that was a thousand times younger than them.
They didn’t know what to do, but one thing that they were both certain of was that they didn’t want to upset the young Lycan, hence the predicament they were in currently. Maybe it was really for the best, right?
"He really is angry," King Zaffuto said. He had tried to make sense of all of this, but he hadn’t been able to, despite the time that had passed.
Even now, when he could smell his son’s scent in the palace, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to run to Tamiko and hug him, or just stay in his study because there was a chance that Tamiko didn’t want to see him.
He was worried that his son would turn out like him, which was something he had always wanted. But at the same time, he had managed to change his mind about it. He had seen his son be a terrible version of him.
Oh, but his son was crueler than he could ever dream of and that was worrying for the king. He wanted his son to be happy and always be guided by love, something that he cherished just like his little Tamiko.
He wanted him to have all the time in the world being just a kid for as long as eternity would allow.
Oh, but Zaffuto didn’t want to burden his son.
He just wanted what was best for Tamiko and right now even though he was not sure what the fuck the real was for him, Zaffuto was sure he wanted his son to be the happiest of kids out there.
Maybe he was overreaching and hoping for the impossible, but hadn’t that always been what he had been made of over the years? Wasn’t it time for him to dare and challenge the fates against the pain that his son was feeling and the rage that was at bay for his son?
Was that all that he could ever afford at the moment then? Would it ever make any sense or was this just another game for the Lycans and one that no one in their right mind would ever be able to understand?
"I understand where he is coming from. He suffered for the past six days and he blames himself for everything. It is obvious even in the way that he murdered the wolves. He was sending a message with the murders and he hoped that they would get his Erasthai back," Lord Sadako defended like it was his divine duty to do that.
Of course, anyone who had seen Tamiko over the past few days understood the kid, but then beyond understanding, there was the lingering question of where the limits lay for the youngest Hinata.
It was a question of whether the kid would be worse than his father or if he would be the bridge between humanity and insanity for the great household of Hinata. That was the one thing that many were worried about but couldn’t ever bring themselves to ask in front of the royals.
It was almost like a chance at an insane lifeline and pen that no one in their right mind would ever want to be a part of. Maybe it was what the dynasty looked like, but damn was Tamiko a desperate lover even then.
Maybe the universe would help him out because otherwise, the realm was cooked and it wasn’t even an assumption. It was the truth that was waiting to boil over, a possibility that had been made certain by the occurrences of the past few days.
Maybe it was a reality that was so insane, but then what else was there for them? This was just what life had been and they had to learn to live with the consequences of what they had triggered.
Would it be on their side though?
Would it make them feel better about the madness that was staring right back at them indirectly?
"I know... I understand him. But he shut off his humanity. Who knows what he will do?" Zaffuto asked worriedly.
He loved his son.
Oh, he adored the kid to bits.
He would give Tamiko Kawai if that was what his son wanted and he would be everything for Tamiko.
However, that didn’t change the fact that he had been feeling his son’s pain in the worst of ways now that Tamiko had locked his Erasthai out of their mind. It was crazy, at first, because the king had thrived.
It was just a momentary tantrum, but then it wasn’t and he was learning it, several hours later.
It was something that horrified him to the core and yet he was the one person who was never scared of anything, he always had everything under control and he was always the trusted one.
But who was Zaffuto supposed to trust if he didn’t trust himself this time?
"He won’t be a nuisance. He told you he wouldn’t leave home. Right? He won’t try to sabotage that; besides, you’re his father, Zaffuto. If anyone can get through to him, then it can only be you. Not even Igor can get through to him," Sadako said as if that was a reminder that the king needed to make amends.
It was crazy how much had changed over the past few days, but what else was there for them to be holding onto? Nothing had changed between them but this was the era of what Tamiko would be feeling.
It was something way supreme to the point that even the most unhinged of people would have wanted to see the chaos unfold with ease.
"Easier said than done," Zaffuto sighed. He knew his son and that was how he knew that Tamiko wouldn’t want him interfering. But what the fuck was Zaffuto Hinata supposed to make of that?
He wanted to see his son happy yet he was so sure that Tamiko would fight him if he went after Kosta. It was a dilemma for the great king and it was also interesting to watch, however bad the situation was for everyone.
"The only thing he never wanted his entire life was to have a family, not a mate. A family. You are his family, the one person he has always needed the most," Sadako explained softly.
Zaffuto stared at his brother like we were just some wild hopes they were holding onto. He couldn’t even deny that that had made him wonder what life would be like for the rest of them out and beyond the borders of the comfort that they had always been used to.
Then again, there was a chance that Sadako was right and all Zaffuto needed to do was go and talk to his son. Funny how the big bad king was scared of his young son. How times had changed then?
"But what if he doesn’t want me near him?" Zaffuto hacked uncertainty.
He wanted to go see his son, but he was not ready to be rejected by his son.
The man was scared of being rejected by anyone, but his son was his soft spot and if Tamiko rejected him, it would take a long time for Zaffuto Hinata to recover, that much was certain.
"He wouldn’t have promised you that he wasn’t ever going to leave Kaiwa then. Get up, go find him," Sadako said like he was talking about the greatest father-son duo when they were just a bunch of unhinged little shits. But that’s alright, yeah?
"I still have work to do. The changes in the kingdom and what we did in the past week are grounds for war. The wolves will come and fight us. These warlocks will be joining them. We have to be ready," Zaffuto tried to deflect but Lord Sadako wasn’t having it.
He had known his brother for the longest time, and work wasn’t something that the man could ever use as an excuse. The man was way too diligent and intelligent to be pretending to be earned with work.
He always got what he wanted and the results that would be appealing to him. So, this just didn’t make sense to Sadako. Perhaps that was also why Lord Sadako wasn’t willing to compromise with his brother.
If there was a madhouse that they had to cross just to get to Tamiko, then he would see to it that Zaffuto crossed that damn madhouse. It wasn’t the most ideal of times, but it was what they had to deal with and Sadako didn’t mind.
He would fix them if that was part of the job he was meant for either way.
"We have always been ready for war since that dreadful evening, Zaffuto. That is not an excuse enough, now get up and find a way to make your son happy," Sadako said and the king wanted to fight the idea, however appealing it was.
Maybe he was just being a coward and he wasn’t sure his son would look at him in the same way, right?
"Sadako..." the king trailed off desperately.
"Up, Zaffuto. I will do the rest of the work," Sadako said sternly and the king just sighed. His brother was relaying something, but then deep down, he was glad he had Sadako. All of this was a tad easier with his brother around.
"Fine. If he kills me, make sure to bury me next to Liana aye," King Zaffuto said dramatically as his brother grabbed a book off the table and threw it at him with a laugh. They were a mess, but at least they had each other.
