Chapter 238: For You, I Did Pretend And Embraced Happiness

[KAWAI]

"That’s easy. Come. Let’s go sparring. I don’t have much to do since everyone seems to be walking on eggshells around me. I doubt they would ever let me into Papa’s study to start thinking of helping the kingdom," Tamiko said casually like what he had said didn’t sound like a call for help.

Everyone was scared of him, scared of upsetting him, and rightly so.

They had seen the way the boy had spent the entire week being broken because of his Erasthai. They had seen his light fade in the distance because they didn’t even know the first thing that they needed to do to help him out.

It had been a crazy week for them and while it had just been barely days off the limit, they had seen and felt the pain that the young Lycan had felt. Perhaps they were avoiding him because they didn’t want to force him back into the one place that had hurt him to the core.

It was a time that had fucked him over and everyone was not sure if he would lose control again. They had seen him become a danger to the people around him, and then become a Lycan that had just lost his mate.

He had been everything that they didn’t understand and he had been the best trigger of the chaos.

Granted, none of them still understood what it meant to be in Tamiko’s shoes but one thing that the entire Kawai had come to make peace with was the fact that the kid was not like his father.

No one had ever seen King Zaffuto cry out for his Erasthai like Tamiko had. They had never watched an emotion on the king’s face save for the one day that Liana had been lost.

That was the first time they had seen the king show emotions and it was pure rage and heartbreak. They had felt his pain back then, and perhaps that was why they were strangely hopeful when they learned that the Lycan prince was one of them.

It was a strange analogy, but they were suckers for hope and Tamiko seemed to be the beam that they needed to embrace along the way.

Maybe it wasn’t that bad, and maybe life wasn’t going to be as complicated for them, perhaps it was the one thing that they could have hoped for and believed in. It wouldn’t be too much, but it would be worth something, at least that was agreeable.

Oh, how fate was interesting.

"Are you okay though? You know... Igor woke up," Danny said carefully like he already knew that this was a sore topic. It was crazy how shit had gotten but then what was crazier was the fact that Tamiko was not even willing to compromise.

He was acting like the sun was shining as always and like nothing had changed for him when everything had quite literally changed. They had endured the kind of shit that no one in all of history had ever considered.

Perhaps this was one of those times when Danny tried to talk sense into Tamiko. But the problem was whether Tamiko would be willing to listen this time.

"Yeah. He woke me up with a kiss but I felt nothing. Told him I’d set him free by rejecting him and he bolted. I don’t even know what his problem is. He wants me and doesn’t want me.

"He hates me and wants to reject me. When I agree to a rejection, he leaves me hanging. Can’t he just decide what part of fate he will play in my life and get this over with?" Tamiko asked frustratedly like that was the one thing he needed answers for.

Oh, but Tamiko had seen the love and desire in Kosta’s eyes. He had seen the way that life had been crazy for the man and yet at the same time he had seen the way that Kosta was calling out for him.

He had loved the man and he had felt it earlier. Oh, his love wasn’t the kind to fade and yet when shit had gone sideways, there had been the kind of tension that had pissed Tamiko off.

Fate was not that easy for them and Tamiko had come to accept that little truth. It was uncomfortable for him, but it was what had to be done regardless of the conditions placed on them.

None of this would ever make sense for a while, and Tamiko didn’t mind, which was creepy.

"Tamiko... he is your Erasthai. He is your world, brother," Danny reminded like the man didn’t already know that. Of course, Tamiko knew what had to happen between him and Kosta. He knew that they had a bond that would surpass any trials and tribulations.

He knew that no matter what life had sent their way, they wouldn’t have to worry about the way that shit had to happen. He knew that their love was the kind that wasn’t stoppable and he believed in it.

But Tamiko was exhausted, that was the difference this time.

He was a little too tired of the back and forth; he needed a break.

"But I am not his, Danny. If I was his world, he wouldn’t have left me alone when I was still processing everything too. He could have stayed and we would have worked it out together.

"And you know what he said... That Zula saved him, what a joke," Tamiko said angrily. He had a lot of pent-up anger and slowly he was learning his uncle had said that the Hinata house with or without their humanity, would always be the same.

They never really got to switch it off completely. It was a truth that Tamiko despised, but what else could he do? Maybe he could play the boy without humanity for as long as he could, right? As long as he needed to?

"You don’t believe him?" Danny asked even though he could already see the answers himself. This wasn’t even something that needed an explanation.

Tamiko had made it very clear what he was feeling and how his stance was, and honestly, it didn’t matter that their lives would be changed for the worse. He would keep at it.

"Should I? He went out there and got himself kidnapped by wolves. What the fuck am I supposed to do then? Maybe, he was right. His being an omega is just going to keep stressing me out," Tamiko sighed.

Danny knew there and then that Tamiko was trying too hard to be inhumane. This was not his best friend and yet at the same time, Danny knew that this was Tamiko at his worst.

Perhaps he just needed to figure out a way to make the boy believe that life was not as cruel as he was thinking, right?

"You’re too cruel today," Danny sighed in defeat.

"Am I? Well, that sucks, but it is what I am and frankly, I like this version of myself more. I don’t have to worry about hurting his feelings anymore. I don’t have to worry about him leaving my ass out in the open again.

"And you ask too many questions. Want to figure out your abilities or what?" Tamiko asked, making Danny flinch at his tone.

He knew that the past few days had messed up Tamiko, but frankly, he hadn’t expected that it would have been this hard on Tamiko. And Danny’s heart broke for his best friend once again.

Oh, to be Tamiko Hinata.

"Yeah, yeah, let’s get going then," Danny said defeatedly.
