Chapter 222: Out Of The Shadows, Into The Light

[KAWAI]

"My apologies for all that you had to go through, Akila. I hope you don’t take this to heart. The kid is just desperate for the one person he loves with all of him. Whatever you need to recover, please don’t hesitate to let me know, so I can see to it that it is provided to you," Lord Sadako said apologetically to Akila.

He had seen the way that Tamiko had dealt with the man and it hurt even him even though he wasn’t the one being suspected.

He had watched the Lycan Chief’s assistant be reduced to someone who wasn’t trusted, even though the crown trusted Igor’s barbarians to do whatever they needed. The crown had never once questioned them or what they did for years and now it seemed like Tamiko had broken that tradition.

It was a little hectic, but at the same time, it was something that they couldn’t deny had impacted them a lot more than he had thought possible. This wasn’t how life should have been in Kawai and yet it had been so.

Maybe there would come a time when shit was easier for all of them.

"I understand, sire. If I were in the young prince’s shoes, I would have done the same. But there is something it needs to tell you, something that I couldn’t tell the prince no matter what he did to me," Akila said.

Lord Sadako started at the Lycan like he was insane. They had all seen the way that Akila had been tortured and how much stress he had been put through, not to mention the amount of magic that had been used against him.

There was no way that the Lycan was able to withhold any information for Tamiko in that state unless he had a strong mental state. But then, five days of torture would have any other Lycan submitting and letting go.

It was always like that and Tamiko had done a lot to the realm and there wasn’t a special kind of damage factor that could be done to fix the extent of the mess that he had generated.

All of this was insane on so many fronts, but Lord Sadako was curious.

"Information? How? You have a thin—" Lord Sadako asked.

"He didn’t ask this particular one. I told him the truth of everything and all that he wanted to know... all that he asked about. But he never asked about this particular aspect," Akila said and that got Lord Sadako’s attention even more.

He had seen Tamiko go bonkers because of finding Kosta and right now it did seem like the young Lycan had lost so much that he wouldn’t be able to process it in one sitting.

Maybe that was what made him an irritable man, but then the universe was always going to be playing games with them, so there was just no point in trying to understand what aspect of the games they were getting dealt with today.

Maybe that was their solace, but even then, it was a tad too unhinged for Lord Sadako and Akila.

"What is it then?" Lord Sadako questions defeatedly.

"They triggered his heat, right before I lost consciousness," Akila began and Lord Sadako was sure that was anything new. Akila had long mentioned the heat on the first day, and it wasn’t that they didn’t know that the omega was in his weakest state at the time.

Perhaps that was why Tamiko had scoured the realm and tore through seven hundred wolves with ease. It was the kind of rage that made even saints seem like demons. It was that bad. And it wasn’t any better whatsoever.

"Is that supposed to mean anything else, Akila?" Lord Sadako questioned.

"They used a powder that only one warlock in the realm would ever be able to concoct. The king of powder that had been stored for years on end, because the way that Chief Konstantin gave in to the breaths was a little too fast.

"They had to have gotten it from one person and one person only in the entire realm, my Lord," Akila said as he struggled to sit up. Lord Sadako and already cast a spell that had unbound him from all that he had been tied with.

Akila was able to use his hands and legs, but their functionality could take a moment to be reinstated because of the endless torture he had endured. It was the kind that Akila would, never forget and frankly, it was the kind of torture that taught him to never fuck with what was Tamiko’s.

That was how unhinged the torture was and he hated himself for not being useful even after being tortured for so long. Maybe he should have found a way to make the situation lighter, but he had been knocked out and he wasn’t sure what part of the realm he would have woken up in.

Frankly, Akila hadn’t expected to wake up in the torture chamber of Kawai and he had so many questions as to how he had gotten there.

His first guess was that he was found by the border patrol of Kawai, which wasn’t that hard, but then it begged the question of where the patrols were when the Lycan Chief was being exposed to such lengths of humiliation.

It was absurd and it hurts more than Akila would be able to voice out. This was not something to think of as easily and Akila was slightly learning that.

"A powder? No one even knew Igor was an omega..." Lord Sadako stated as he trailed off.

He knew he was probably being absurd seeing as anyone who was around Igor had to have known, but Lord Sadako trusted in the scent masking that Kosta had been doing his entire life to keep him safe.

Maybe that was why they hadn’t had anything to suspect for the longest time and now that life was creepy, they had to try and think rationally for once. It wasn’t going to be easy and it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.

"We knew, my Lord. We know how he was and what he was... But I know the leak never came from our camp. We owe Igor Konstantin our lives. He could ask us to walk into a fire and burn for the rest of our lives and we would just do it without question.

"There was only one other person who could have figured that out, and honestly what the way the Grealors had come to Kawai, I couldn’t help but think of them," Akila spoke and Lord Sadako gritted his teeth.

This was a strong accusation and without a good enough basis, it would be worth nothing. Instead, it would just be the result of another trigger for a war that was already getting fucked over.

Frankly, it just didn’t make sense, but at the same time, it made a lot of sense. There was only one pack that had been known to hide Lycans for that long. But even then, surely the Grealors couldn’t be that stupid to try and attack the crown again, no?

It was insane on so many levels and yet it weirdly made a lot of sense to the point that it was unsettling. It just wasn’t fair and Tamiko would lose his shit if he figured this out. But maybe this was all just speculation by Akila, right?

He couldn’t have figured that shit that fast, no? Surely there had to be something else, right?

"No way. You can’t be thinking that it was..." Lord Sadako trailed off.

"She is the only one I can think of. If we managed to get a whiff of Konstantin and we were that close, think of what she could have done with that information.

"Besides the realm already knows that the royal omega is Igor Konstantin, how else could I try to keep the war from coming to reality, other than by holding onto the one thing that could guarantee them peace?

"Think of it, my Lord. Grealor has everything to lose in the battle against the king, and they know that what they did was not right. They have her as one of their warlocks and she played a key role in the chaos twenty-six years ago.

"She had fucked us over once, there is no denying that she could have been the one fuck us over that fast. I have tried to think and she has the motive. Maybe I am overthinking this, but I really think it was Zula who created the omega powder to trigger the Lycan Chief’s heat and make sure that he was too crippled to do anything.

"The powder dust was too potent even for me as a Lycan warrior. It was something that was too strong and it was meant for the target audience. It seemed to find its way into Chief Konstantin’s system a little faster than anyone could have blinked.

"One moment we were talking and the next he was an omega and in heat and then I was passing out after getting knocked at the back of my head," Akila explained defeated.

He hated that this was happening again and he hated the fact that he hadn’t been able to do a thing to stop the chaos. He should have been a good enough warrior, but now all that he had were endless regrets and that there was never going to be a way out of this for them that didn’t involve a blood bath.

Then again, Tamiko had already started the bloodbath, hadn’t he?

They had nothing to worry about because officially the gloves were off and unofficially, Kawai was at war with everyone in the realm who wasn’t a Lycan and who wasn’t within the Kawai borders by the time the Lycan Chief had been kidnapped.

The enemies would be found and mercy would be nothing but a dream for them.

"Oh, Zula... What have you done?" Lord Sadako sighed angrily.
