Chapter 223: Let Me Lead You Into The Light
Chapter 223: Let Me Lead You Into The Light
[KAWAI]
"This is going to be terrible, Daniel. If you don’t have the heart for this, don’t come along," King Zaffuto said to Danny who was with him in the free lands. They had set off to look for his Lycan Chief and his son-in-law and had been on the road for a while now.
At the moment he had to want to explore territories that would be unsettling for Daniel and hence the heads up.
It was strange, really, how a man who had spent his entire life terrorizing people was suddenly the one with a conscience and who could tell that there were things that needed to be deserted.
It was strange, the way that shit had gotten and Danny wanted to say that there was something else that could be done, but even he knew that there wasn’t much that they could do.
He was just a new Lycan and he had a lot to learn about the culture. It didn’t help that he was dealing with the devil himself but then, whatever made ends meet was all that they needed at the moment, right?
This was not going to be easy, and Daniel had long learned that. Perhaps this was his chance at the most unfortunate of things that he had ever witnessed. Surely fate wouldn’t be that mean to them, right?
"Anything to see my brother happy, your majesty. I would do anything for him," Danny reminded me for the hundredth time in the hours they had been out there. The King had tried to make him leave but Danny had seen for himself how Tamiko had crashed out.
He had watched the man indoors and he had watched brother lose his shit one too many times in the past five days. They all loved Tamiko and were there for him, and Tamiko knew that too.
However, there was nothing they could do that would make him feel better other than bringing back his Erasthai. That was the only plausible cause of action that would make more sense and that would have the yearning for the kid they had known for a long time.
Perhaps it was insane what they had gotten to do, but fate wasn’t exactly the kindest to them. They had to try and figure shit out on their own one too many times and this was just one of those days that they needed to act and fast.
"Alright then. The trail dies at the house on the border of Grealor. The Warlocks’ house," King Zaffuto said and Danny let out a frustrated groan.
He had known that Zula was a piece of shit that followed the Grealor alpha blindly, but he hadn’t thought that this was what he had been up to all this time, it was dangerous to play the long game with King Zaffuto and it was hectic, to say the least.
This was not something that anyone in their right mind would have approved of and yet it did seem like Zula wasn’t in the right state of mind. No one who was seen enough would try to mess with the king’s son, just when he had found him.
That was easily a death wish and only mad people would be able to get through to this point. Perhaps that was why Daniel wasn’t sure there was an outcome where Zula survived this.
At the same time, Daniel wasn’t certain if he wanted ZuIa to survive the mad king.
He didn’t know if that was the best thing for them because the woman had long played a part in hurting Tamiko years ago and she was at it again; no doubt, at the behest of the craziest of Alpha wolves.
She was too loyal to Alpha Ashton and maybe that was going to be her easiest way out. The woman was dangerous, but King Zaffuto was the devil. There wasn’t much that Zula could do to make shit any better at this point.
This was pure suicide, even if it didn’t seem so for the Grealor warlock.
"You know Zula, huh?" King Zaffuto said with a light laugh like he had half-expected this but at the same time, he hadn’t been sure that this was what it would be like for him and the young wolf.
So many times, he had come to Zula for consultation but he had never once thought that the woman would play a role in the madness that had ripped apart his kingdom, the kind that had ruined his family.
Maybe that wasn’t why he was here just yet. Maybe he was here to ask if Zula was one of the warlocks that had been consulted for whatever powers that had been used against Igor Konstantin.
Perhaps it was insane that the king was polite, but then fate wasn’t really something that they would be playing games with at the moment. It wouldn’t matter if they failed to do what they had been assigned to do, which was to help in the scratch for the Lycan Chief.
"I interacted with her a few times before," Danny said and the King stared curiously.
"She Is an old friend of mine. One of the old warlocks could have come up with the powder, or who knows who could have come up with that shit," King Zaffuto said as they got closer to the Zula’s shelter.
They had been fast in everything that they did and the king had scoured all the corners of the realm for his Chief. It was something that scared the entire realm because no one had ever seen King Zaffuto care that much for a Chief that he could replace.
But then again, this was his reminder to the realm that he wouldn’t sit and watch as people tried to hurt that which was his.
He wouldn’t be stopped by anyone who was willing to challenge him and was welcome to try and contend for whatever the fuck was waiting for them because the King wasn’t about to stop.
"You have quite the range of friends, your majesty. I may not know much about Zula but I know that she is Alpha Ashton’s most trusted warlock. That should be a pointer or do something, right?" Danny said and King Zaffuto just chuckled.
He was intrigued by the fact that young Daniel was caring towards him. It wasn’t what he had expected and it made the King realize that maybe, just maybe, he didn’t make the mistake of turning Daniel into his son’s Lycan Lord.
It was something that he had considered for months since he had figured out the people in Tamiko’s circle and he wanted what was best for his son.
Oh, but the king was more than willing to do what it would take just to make certain that his son was happy and content. It was just unfortunate that he was already going through so much shit right now with Igor.
However, all of that would come to pass, right? Oh, but it was a lot for the young prince, but King Zaffuto was a helpful man. He was sure that this would be alright for his son and his Erasthai, regardless of what they would have to deal with along the way.
"You’re intelligent, Daniel. But Zula is an old friend that Ashton and I used to share. Maybe the same is still constant given that we come from away back. She could be of help and we will be sure to return her aid," King Zaffuto said.
Danny sighed he couldn’t understand what this was about, but at the same time, he couldn’t tell that he didn’t have so much to say about the king. If there was one thing that Danny had learned about the mad King was that the maN was always ten steps ahead.
Just because he was here for Zula didn’t mean that he trusted the woman completely and judging by the proximity, the King was probably trying to figure out where the traps were for them.
Oh, but it was the kind of life that was draining and one that Danny wanted no part of. This was insanity and he refused to be roped in by the same woman who had hurt his best friend before.
There was no telling what Zula would do now that there was an open challenge that was headed for her. Would she try to fight the mad king? Would she try to betray the man again?
Would she swear her allegiance to the mad King or is this just a game of old friend show that had been there long before the larger population even could breathe with ease?
It was a lot, Danny was sure of, but right now, he was choosing to trust the king because honestly, he didn’t know what they were getting into. And the king had a better chance of knowing Zula than Danny did.
Perhaps King Zaffuto wasn’t wrong this time, right?
"I understand, Your Majesty," Danny said and the king let out a light laugh.
"You really won’t call me uncle, huh?" King Zaffuto teased and Danny stared at the man, unsure of whether that was a threat or a question that was asked in good faith.
They had been on the road for five long days and they hadn’t had the pleasure of taking a break, so what was the king’s idea of what a break was supposed to be like? Was it the fates and the answers that were pending?
"I didn’t think you would want that when we are beyond the borders of Kawai... Your Majesty," Danny insisted and this time, the King stopped smoking to look at the kid who was talking with him.
"You can call me anything that means anywhere, young Daniel. Now come along, let’s get this done," King Zaffuto said reassuringly.
"Okay, uncle," Danny said and the King smiled at him before they headed towards Zula’s door. Maybe the king wasn’t really a bad man, right? Oh, Danny.
