Chapter 217: Could Paint The City Red For You
[KOSTA]
"Are you giving up just like that?" Akila asked and Igor sighed a second time.
He was trying his best not to give up but then he had seen and heard the King in the morning. King Zaffuto had given him the chance to decide what he wanted to do, but at the same time, he had been warned by the King against dragging the rejection process.
It was such a harsh possibility and maybe the King had gotten impatient to the point that he had brought the Grealor wolves; the same wolves that King Zaffuto despised so much to Kawai.
It was a cruel line of thought and it was the one thing that no one would ever tell Kosta was for his good or even Tamiko’s. That was a lot for him and it had taken him a while to process no matter how fast he had tried to.
Nothing had made sense to him because, at the end of the day, he was always going to be bound to reject Tamiko. It was a cursed cycle, but then the first part wasn’t even complete, which meant that Igor could change the timeline if he wanted to.
He could still shift his sail and fight against the winds that were coming at him.
It was that much of a challenge because no matter how hard he tried to hold on, there would eventually be a time for him to decide and fate wasn’t going to be as kind when that time came.
Even Igor knew that.
"What is there to hold onto? The father decided to make the decisions. There isn’t a thing that I can do about it," Igor said, giving up. It was crazy how fast he had chosen the lowest road.
It was something that shocked him too, but he wasn’t ready to face that side of his life just yet. This had to mean something and he didn’t have the strength to fight and deal with the king anymore.
Honestly, the mad King was always a man full of choices that would never be the same on any front. He was crazy and he was cruel. He was unhinged and he was the worst of the worst – it was no secret anyway.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? If you want to cry, just let it out, man. You sound too different and it is weird. Are the emotions overwhelming? Fucking cry about it. If it’s too much, complain about it.
"Don’t hold everything to yourself because that will just screw things over even more. You’re hurting yourself and your Erasthai and you can’t even see it. If you don’t want the man, go and reject him;
"... but don’t you dare act like a coward and pretend like this is because of you being an omega," Akila scolded in disbelief.
He wasn’t sure he wanted to be around this version of Igor, but at the same time, he had once been here too, in this same spot and it had been Igor and his friends who had dragged him from the very depths of the hell that was threatening to consume him and gave him hope.
The Lycan Chief had given him reason to keep holding on, which was why it was so hard for Akila to accept that that same man was here wallowing because of things that they couldn’t change.
At the same time, they seemed to be things that they had little chance of making better. The King wasn’t rigid when it came to his son, and anyone with brains and who had seen this king and Tamiko interact could tell that too.
That kid had made the King do so many things out of the ordinary.
He had made the mad King a mess that many wanted to associate with, and at the same time, Tamiko had proven over and again that he was the one person the mad King would willingly walk into hell for.
Oh, he was loved by the devil and Igor just happened to be the one man that Tamiko loved the most. That had to be some source of comfort for him too, right?
"You don’t understand," Igor insisted, but his argument wasn’t making sense. There wasn’t much to be understood by Akila right now. There wasn’t anything to be holding out on and they had to have known that.
It wouldn’t matter if the realm itself was against Igor, because Tamiko was for Igor, and Igor had to have known that too. Tamiko’s words carried more weight than even the king’s because he was the apple of the man’s eyes.
Tamiko would decide their fates if Igor let him, and at the same time, Tamiko would see to it that they were the happiest no matter how hard shit got. It was no secret to anyone who had known Igor and Tamiko.
It wasn’t that hard to tell too because their love had been the kind that had gotten even the King himself out of Kawai. Oh, the dots had connected so well and it was making more sense now that the king had made the announcement last evening.
It was interesting because the silence of the Lycan was not something that happened at any point. The king, his son, and the Lycan Chief had managed to do the impossible and bring it to life.
"Then go explain it to your Erasthai. Go and tell it to him. Tell him what you have at heart or in your mind. Talk to him, Igor. He deserved at least that much because that was how mate bonds work.
"My Erasthai and I have been through a lot of shit but we communicate either way. You need to find that man and do what is right before his heart sinks like yours is. You have the power in your hands so go and make the fixes that you need to," Akila said, not leaving room for any arguments.
He wasn’t in the mood to soothe the Lycan Chief’s emotions that the man was already running away from. There wasn’t a lot to be running away from because it wasn’t like Tamiko had rejected Igor outright.
The man had loved the Lycan Chief and had even made it known that he would get the space he needed. But at the same time, Akila could see the fear on the Lycan Chief’s face and even in the way he communicated.
He was worried and had every right to be.
He was scared of what life would be like for him and honestly, it wasn’t that confusing. The man was being honest and open with his emotions, which was something that even Akila had never thought possible of the worst barbarian in the realm.
But it was happening.
It was something that needed work and Igor just had to swallow his pride or fear and go back into the arms of the man who was always going to be waiting for him, it wouldn’t be a crumbling moment, but then at the same time, it wasn’t going to be as crazy as anyone could have thought.
"We have other things to do than me going to pine over a man who might not want me for being an omega. Come along, let’s get this bounty over and done with," Igor said and Akila sighed. There was really no getting through to this man, huh?
"Why do you have to be such a stubborn man?" Akila sighed as he kicked the nearest stone, he couldn’t understand why it was so hard for the Lycan Chief to go back home and fix his mess.
The way that Igor was conscious of the Grealors was unsettling and as someone who had had a mate, Akila understood how difficult this was for Igor. But it was something that Konstantin had to embrace and deal with.
No one would fix it for him if he didn’t want to step up, which would cause so many misunderstandings, and then there wouldn’t be much to hold onto anymore. This was his chance, a window at home but Igor was not ready just yet.
And as much as Akila wanted to keep pushing, even he understood that the man had to be willing to do this before they ever got to move forward.
"We have a responsibility to the crown, Akila. Our personal lives don’t need to be this. The sooner we get the third bounty delivered the sooner we get to go home and the sooner you go be with your Erasthai," Igor said.
Akila knew there and then that there was never going to be a need for him to convince Igor of anything.
The man had already made up his mind.
All of this was nothing, and he was so certain that the sun would rise and set, but he would never have to change shit about the chaos that he was embracing at the moment.
"Fine, if that is what you want, let’s do that then," Akila sighed, giving up. He had tried to make the Lycan Chief see what he was missing out on and how to deal with the shit that was in his life but then he wasn’t certain that things could get any better.
Maybe in the long run they would find themselves in better spaces but until then, Akila just had to hope that shit went right for Igor. It was his prayer at the moment because otherwise they wouldn’t be able to move forward and that would hurt.
"Great," Igor said and they got back to their bounty hunting. However, this time, Igor was thinking of Tamiko and how to make things better. Perhaps Akila’s words would eventually find a way into his heart.
