Chapter 203: One Time For The Past...

[KAWAI]

"... He never stopped waiting and looking for you, which is why he let you bring me along when he found you. The man may not be a monster, Tamiko, but if he loses you again, the realm will literally burn.

"You heard him last time at the breakfast table," Danny said casually like it did not mean much, like the fate of everyone in the realm was bound to Tamiko. But then it was the truth.

Danny was being realistic right now and it was up to Tamiko to decide if he wanted a good memory or if he wanted to be the man who forced the king into a corner that doomed the entirety of Kawai.

"That sounds a lot like blackmail to me. I only want my erasthai to want me, is that so hard for everyone to accept?" Tamiko asked defeatedly.

He was desperately holding on to the possibility of Konstantin wanting him back, of Igor looking at him the same way.

He was desperate to be in Erasthai’s hold and yet right now it seemed like he had to deal with his father because if he just left his father would use his erasthai as the bait and it wasn’t comforting at all.

"No, it is not. But when you are a father and the one who had been looking for his son for years and years on and. Sometimes everyone gets reduced to a pawn on the chessboard just to keep the son close.

"I am certain he doesn’t see it as making life harder for people. He only sees it as a way of keeping you close. A way of loving you and telling you that you won’t be hurt again. Only that he is a man so used to pain and one who had seen the worst of the worst come to life.

"He is a desperate man, and if you leave luck you are planning on doing that. Then Kosta will pay the price for it, now that your father thinks Kosta is the reason you want to leave," Danny explained.

Tamiko felt his head begin to hurt.

This was too much for him. He wanted to argue with Danny on the credibility of those thoughts, but he knew his best friend a little too well to know that Danny Wasn’t bluffing. If he saw what he had seen from the mad king, then he had to have seen it.

That was not as hard to think of right now and it was a reality that Tamiko had to reconcile as soon as possible.

"This is so hectic. What the fuck am I supposed to do then? Go back home and soothe Papa dearest so he doesn’t hurt my erasthai or what?" Tamiko asked in defeat. He couldn’t believe that this was even a consideration for Danny.

It was absurd but Tamiko also knew that it was something that the mad king could definitely do. He had seen his father and how the man was acting with him. And it wasn’t the kind of shit that Tamiko could play around with.

This was about Kosta and he hates that there was that possibility with the king.

"Not exactly. You can be the prince he wants you to be. By being the prince you will secure your spot as the next monarch and you will also be able to save your erasthai from the people of the realm and your father too.

"In fact, you will be able to ensure that your father and your erasthai have a good relationship. It all ends with you, brother," Danny advised softly. He had known Tamiko for a long and he understood how this felt like for the young Lycan.

He had understood Tamiko for the longest time and this right here was the only viable option.

Danny had seen the king and his actions and he knew there wasn’t a thing that the man wanted more than his son’s happiness and right now it seemed like Kosta was starting to be a thorn on his son’s side.

The king was bound to eliminate the Lycan Chief and that would strain the relationship thy father and son were having. It was too risky, but the mad king was used to taking risks. He probably wouldn’t even bend the knee for anyone or anything.

"How the hell did you know all of that?" Tamiko teased amusedly. He had been listening to Danny as time went by and he was impressed. If ever he was a king, he would probably consider Danny as his right-hand man in the matters of the crown.

The man had the mind of a strategist and had been beta for a long time. Perhaps this was also something that the two friends would eventually have to talk about once King Zaffuto and Lord Sadako finally retired.

It was going to be a beautiful season ahead, but only if Tamiko made sure that there was a present to be proud of and to hold onto. It was as simple and as complicated as a father’s unconditional love for his son.

"I know you. And I know that you won’t stop until something is right. It is also the same way your father won’t stop until he gets to have you and be sure that you will never lack as his son.

"The man is currently guilty as fuck for not finding you sooner and he would do anything to atone for the years that he missed out on. Don’t underestimate a father’s love, brother," Danny said in the light of tones and it would have been impressive if the father in question wasn’t the devil himself.

But even then, Danny had seen the king go soft for Tamiko more than once.

For Tamiko, he had crossed the realm and managed to go to Grealor without causing a scene or even burning down the pack that his son had been a slave.

For Tamiko, he had been a civil man with his people just so his son wouldn’t be burdened by the responsibilities of a past his father had not reconciled just yet. The man had done what he could and Danny had seen it all.

"Well then, it looks like we have to make the road back to the palace, aye," Tamiko said after a short while.

He couldn’t stop thinking anymore because it seemed like the universe was determined to make sure everyone who was around him got to have a better life only if he was happy. But what of Konstantin?

What would he do with the erasthai he loved more than life?

"Seems so. I know I am powerless on the side of the realm. But I hope you remember that I will always be by your side, no matter what you do and what happens here and beyond," Danny said as he pulled Tamiko into a hug.

He could see the stress marks on his little brother and it was frustrating him that he didn’t have enough influence. However, Danny was thankful that Tamiko was good at holding on when it mattered and he knew that he would be able to get through this.

They had to, for the sake of everyone who cared about the kingdom of Kawai.

"I would never doubt that, Danny. Never," Tamiko reassured and together they made their way back to the palace that was waiting for them. Maybe it would be good news, but then of their thoughts, it certainly wasn’t what they met a few meters from the palace gates.
