Chapter 201: Walking Out of Time

[KAWAI]

"What would you want me to do, Danny? I need to give him the space he asked for. I need to find a way to make things right for him, but how am I supposed to do that when I can’t even see him?

"I love him so much it hurts to see him that down. He asked for his cent today too. He didn’t want to accept that reality just yet, but that is what he has to live with, now that it is out in the open.

"There are no shortcuts around that and you know it too," Tamiko reminded in defeat.

The reality of what Kosta was, seemed to dawn on the Lycan chief and he was desperately holding onto the possibility that the evening yesterday didn’t happen and that realities could change. But the problem was they couldn’t go back in time.

Tamiko and his father could manipulate time and reset the previous day but then that would leave them with the burden of making sure Kosta never got outed.

It was too stressful and they had to accept that sometimes life never went the way they wanted it to and that they just had to find a way to deal with the truth that Lay bare for the loss of them anyway.

"Then you know what to do. There is only one way to make sure that he isn’t harmed by anyone, not even your father," Danny said.

Tamiko stared at him like he had heard Danny wrong surely he wasn’t insinuating that the king, his father was a threat to the man he loved more than his own life right? There had to be a mistake somewhere this time.

It was not possible for Danny to be thinking like that, knowing so well what Tamiko and his father had had to go through for a long time, no? But what if Danny was right? What the fuck was he going to do then?

"Papa wouldn’t dare hurt Kosta. He wouldn’t," Tamiko said with conviction, though a part of him was suddenly perked at the idea that his erasthai was in danger from his very own father, the man who had brought them nesting blankets so Kosta would be alright.

It made no sense and Tamiko was determined to prove to Danny that that was just another figment of his thoughts. There was just no way that that was real. It is impossible on so many levels.

Oh, how Tamiko trusted his father to take care of his erasthai. The king didn’t have a lot on his plate this time, so it wasn’t going to be hard for him to take care of Kosta, no? Or was it the one thing that the king was opposed to?

Even then, the king has not objected to the protection he was to offer Kosta at the breakfast table, so where in all hell was Danny getting all these assumptions then?

"And yet he lifted the masking substance and revealed to the clans that Igor Konstantin was an omega Lycan. He knew what that would mean for the Lycan Chief and yet he still did it. He did what he wanted and you didn’t even fight or question him.

"What of that then, Tamiko? Your father would do anything to get you to never leave Kawai again. He loves you so much he can’t lose you and it is that which drives him nuts. If you leave, he will definitely use Kosta to get you back.

"I know that because I would do the same if I were in his shoes," Danny expressed unapologetically like that was the one thing that Tamiko needed to understand a little too well.

There were always going to be stakes at the gambling table, but one of those stakes would be higher than what the king was willing to do for his son to never leave him.

Maybe Tamiko didn’t see it just yet, maybe he was already aware of that possibility but he just didn’t find it in half to think like that. His father had loved him and cared for him, perhaps a little obsessively.

But then for the king to even consider ruining Kosta just so Tamiko could stay in Kawai? That was insane. It never made sense and Tamiko was willing to bet on it. The only problem was whether he had the right odds for that long gamble.

Or maybe was just banking on the fact that his father would want to see him happy and Kosta was evidently Tamiko’s happiness, right?

"But he knows Kosta," Tamiko argued as if that was supposed to make the argument hold. The young Lycan himself was in disbelief at the horrid possibility of what his father would do, and yet he still was daring to hope.

Denial was a thing for him ever since he had come home and perhaps that should have been the frost indicator for him to understand that the mad king would never stop until he got what he wanted.

He wouldn’t bend the knee for anyone but his son, and his son’s happiness, which was crazy. The king was more of a loyal father than a king with Tamiko and that part of their lives was the scariest bit of it all.

"And he doesn’t know you that well. Even you have to admit that you haven’t stayed here long enough for your father to know what you like and what you don’t. Or what makes you tick and what doesn’t.

"Last evening he only used the oldest trick in mating books to force you to merge with your true self just so you could save your erasthai. He did that knowing how the outcome would have been.

"He gave you a choice that wasn’t even much of a choice and you played right into it because of how much you love Igor Konstantin. Other than that, your father doesn’t truly know you and that is where the problem is.

"That is because your dearest papa doesn’t trust that you will come back to Kawai if Kosta isn’t hurt and yearns for you. He doesn’t believe that you would want to willingly stay unless your erasthai is stuck in the middle of the mess with you and one that only you can get Igor out of.

"He needs to have leverage on you, and as much as you want to deny it, he doesn’t know where he stands with you, and that can advise so many terrible decisions that he might make for your sake," Danny stated blatantly.

Tamiko felt like this wasn’t what he had signed up for when he came back home. He was in denial and wanted to keep on saying that his father was a good person.

But his father was a good person to him — just him — because he was the man’s prodigal son, the child who had been lost and who found his way back home.

He was the apple of the devil’s eye and there wasn’t a thing that the mad devil wouldn’t do just to see him for a second longer, even if that meant using the one aspect of Tamiko’s life that lay bare for him to play fiddles with.

"I am his son. He knows where he stands with me," Tamiko snickered as he defended his position with his father.
