Chapter 190: Turning The Pages of Our Story

[KAWAI]

With the best friends gone, the table was soft with the ruling royals of Kawai.

"Your majesty..." Kosta began, probably ready to defend himself but he was interrupted by the King himself.

"If you don’t want him, reject him early, Chief Konstantin. Don’t drag it out because it will hurt him more and he won’t recover with ease from it," King Zaffuto said calmly even though he was angry.

But then he couldn’t do shit to Kosta because Tamiko loved the Lycan Chief more than his own life so the King couldn’t mess with that.

"I—" Kosta tried and this time, Lord Sadako was the one to interrupt.

"The kingdom is more delicate than it has ever been, and you have to decide where you stand, Chief. If you’re going to hide away just because you presented as an omega, or if you’re going to keep being the Lycan Chief everyone has known.

"Keep in mind that you have always been an omega when you were a barbarian. Even as an omega you did what you did, by masking your scent and there is nowhere written that masking scents gives people more strength.

"What you had yesterday is what you still have and what you will always have. So, if you want to lean into the excuse of suddenly being an omega as one of the reasons you fail your deities as the Lycan Chief, then let me know as soon as possible I can start scouting for a different Lycan Chief.

"Is that understood?" Lord Sadako said to Kosta who was just staring in surprise. He had been so cooped up in his mind, so scared about what it meant to be an omega in Kawai that he had failed to remind himself that strength only came with what he had.

He had been this for the longest time and he had made a lot of worthy impacts in all those years too. This was not the time for him to be dilly-dallying just because he was mated to the Lycan prince who didn’t know the first thing about the dangers of his home.

"I don’t understand what you mean, Lord Sadako. Does it mean that I am an omega..." Kosta trailed off, the instant regret on his face as he looked at the Lycan King who hadn’t said another word after what he had spoken earlier.

It was like King Zaffuto was determined to prove just how patient he could be with the Lycan Chief. This was not the easiest of days and frankly, Kosta had expected the king to come at him harshly.

He had been waiting for the king to threaten him about Tamiko and what it meant to watch his son suffer. He had waited and waited and yet, the King hadn’t said a word to compel him into a decision that he didn’t want to be a part of.

Oh, how King Zaffuto had been patient and Kosta was just suddenly realizing it.

"You have always been an omega, chief. And you have been the best Lycan Chief we have had for so many years. You being an omega does not hinder you at any point, Konstantin.

"My brother and I will not interfere with the bond that you and young Kaito have, but just like Zaffuto said, if you want to reject the kid, do it as early as possible so he doesn’t hurt for long.

"The longer you wait and expose him to that other side of life, the more brutal he will become and while that won’t be because of you, no one alive will ever be able to snap him out of it.

"So, please," Lord Sadako said and Kosta sighed.

He had been too scared of what life was for him now that his new reality had come along. But he had failed to understand that the king and the Lycan Lord had known who he was for the longest time and hadn’t exposed him to anyone.

They had only one thing when Tamiko was back, to make Tamiko make the most important decisions in Kawai. Maybe it wasn’t fair that he had been coerced into the shit show., but honestly, there wasn’t any way around this at the moment.

They were all just trying their very best even if that wasn’t always going to be the best that most people had hoped for.

"I understand. Can I please be excused, I have to attend to a few bounties before the day ends," Chief Konstantin said and they just nodded at him, not having enough reasons to keep the man around this time.

They could see the conflict in the Lycan Chief’s eyes and while they wanted to force the man into making sure Tamiko was safe emotionally, they could see that this right here was a stage where they wouldn’t always be able to export their young boy from.

So, they had to let fate do its work, however cruel it had all gotten for the young Hinata.

"What are we going to do? And don’t even think of saying you’re going to target the Chief because of what he did. Don’t hurt the children even more, Zaffuto," Lord Sadako said as he looked at his brother.

He had seen the way the king’s eyes had darkened when Tamiko had gotten angry and if Tamiko didn’t love Kosta that much, the mad king would have long killed the man.

He had wanted his son to have much space and every love that was meant to make them happy had been the one to break their kid’s heart even more. What the hell was the King even supposed to make of that?

"I wasn’t going to do anything," King Zaffuto said and Sadako stared at him skeptically. He had lived with the man long enough to know when the man was pissed and plotting at the same time.

It was not even hard to expect that seeing the way that life had gotten for them. Maybe it was because the King had never felt that helped his kid and he didn’t know what he needed to do without hurting his son any further.

"Zaffuto..." Lord Sadako tailed off.

"He was going to reject my son, Sadako. I could see it in his eyes. He wanted to run away and leave my baby suffering. I was just making sure he didn’t get to do that. If he hurts my Kaito, then I will kill him in the most painful of ways.

"No one hurts my baby and lives," King Zaffuto said and Lord Sadako facepalmed. A part of him had expected this from the mad king, but actually hearing it from the King was making him rethink his options.

The king’s voice was raw and defeated. The most powerful creature in the realm had been brought to his knees because of a child that had been so stubborn and a mate bond that hadn’t even made sense to him in the first place.

The King was thankful for the Lycan Chief because he had saved his son from Grealor, but he didn’t like the way that Tamiko had been frustrated and had spent the entire night wallowing in misery because of that same man.

That was the kind of shit that didn’t sit well with King Zaffuto and he wasn’t worried about the outcome as long as his son was happy.

"Don’t do it. Kaito will never forgive you," Lord Sadako reminded.

"Fine... but only on the condition that you help me prepare him for Kawai."
