Chapter 177: Even If It Takes All Night
[KAWAI]
"I love you. Please trust me," Konstantin said to Tamiko, who was confused. None of this was making any sense and Tamiko could tell that nothing would be alright after all this. No one would ever be able to explain what was happening.
"No... you don’t get to say that, not in these circumstances," Tamiko said, staring at the love he had lived for. He always wanted to be loved and cared for and now that Kosta was proving that to him, he wasn’t accepting.
Then again, no one in their right mind would ever agree to such a setup either way. The council members were talking at the duo with their eyes glistening with something that Tamiko couldn’t read into.
It was a first for him, but one thing that he had already figured out was that Kosta was in trouble. His erasthai had been standing there at the mercy of everyone, including his uncle and father, and boy did Tamiko hate this.
"My beautiful, I’ll be fine. Everything will be fine after this," Kosta reassured but Tamiko wasn’t biting into that reassurance. He had been around Kosta enough times to know that this was the sound of goodbye. And he felt it in the next second.
"I’ll take the punishment, as long as you don’t hurt him," Kosta said and Tamiko felt like he was about to lose his mind. This wasn’t how life was supposed to be for the both of them and he hated every aspect of hate this was.
There was just no way that he had found his mate and now he had to lose him again. It was a cruel fate, and Tamiko wasn’t going to let things go like that. He just couldn’t. This was Kosta; his Kosta... and he would not relent.
"Wait, no. What punishment?!" Tamiko asked as he looked at his father who was still looking at the council miners with no emotions on his face.
The man was still unreadable even at this point and Tamiko wanted to run to him and ask him to spare his erasthai. It was a blinding wish, one that he wouldn’t use if his father would ever even grant, but it was worth the risk.
What the hell were they after his erasthai? What had Kosta done to warrant this kind of humiliation among his fellow powerful people? It just made no sense to the young Lycan rogue.
"Oh, he didn’t tell you? This is going to be interesting," Minister Inara mocked and it took every ounce of strength in Tamiko not to slap the woman’s head off of her shoulders and free her of the burden of thinking.
He didn’t have the time to be smiling with anyone right now. His mate was the most important person in his life and his balance between the good in him and the devil he had held back for so many years.
If he lost Kosta he would snap, and as much as being a bloodthirsty beast was appealing to Tamiko. He didn’t want to lose Kosta, not at any point in time.
"You know the punishment could be death, Chief Konstantin," Minister Hyou said defeatedly. He knew this wasn’t going to be easy on anyone and that too on Konstantin. This was the cruelest of decisions for an erasthai and they could only hope that all would be well.
"I know. And my decision remains the same," Igor said and Tamiko felt his world still in an instant. Of all the things he had done today, the death of his mate was not something that he had bargained for.
It was easily the worst of things in his life and he wasn’t about to let that happen. He wasn’t about to lose his erasthai to the horrors of the world that his father had built. This was not the last of it, and Tamiko wasn’t about to give up.
"Why? What did he do?" Tamiko asked as he looked at the enthusiastic minister Sinatra. She was pissing him off, but she was also the one who could tell him what he wanted to hear.
It didn’t matter what Kosta wanted this time, because Tamiko wasn’t about to lose the love of his life like that. He had taken him out for a break and not for a last meal, and hell would be damned if he let them drag his Kosta away.
"Him? He didn’t do anything. In fact, he has been the most law-abiding Lycan who is in power right now. He is better than all of us combined, young Lycan," Minister Inara began amusedly.
Her laugh reverberated across the room and in a moment, Tamiko knew she was on her list of the people he would take out. She wouldn’t forgive her for laughing at his misery and desperation.
He wouldn’t forgive her for doing this to his erasthai and he wouldn’t forgive her for being too excited about his erasthai’s possible execution. He had marked her and no matter how much time passed Tamiko would get his vengeance.
"But you did, you little rogue Lycan. You murdered a councilman’s son, and he chopped the councilman’s head, and the king... oh he murdered the councilman. I bet you already know that judging by the chats outside.
"I told your erasthai to make a choice on who would get punished. The wolf couldn’t be eliminated because that would risk alliances with the werewolf packs. Or we could kill you in retaliation for what you did, seeing as you’re just a mere rogue and no one gives a shit about you.
"Then we thought back to your mate, the Lycan chief who should have inducted you on the roles of the kingdom of Kawai. And he made the choice to take the fall on his own. Now move your pretty little ass to the side and let him hear his sentence.
"We shall put it to a vote, but you need to start playing for the last moments because this might be the last time you see him," Minister Inara taunted.
Tamiko looked at his Kosta. The most beautiful man he had ever laid his eyes on. He thought of his erasthai, the kind-hearted barbarian who had been nothing but kind to him, he had loved him without a pause.
The man who had sacrificed so much just to make him feel comfortable.
Tamiko knew he would never let Kosta take the fall for that and Kosta looked at him, knowing it too. He could see the wheels spinning in his erasthai’s head spinning and before Kosta could say anything, Tamiko lunged at the Minister, Inara.
"You take my erasthai, and I take your life. I have no one to be loyal to other than my Kosta. If you take him, I will murder all of you, and you won’t even be able to lift a finger to harm a hair on my head," Tamiko said angrily as he held the minister so close and in the worst position possible.
His hand was on her neck, ready to snap it if that was what was needed. And for insurance, his other hand was placed at her heart, ready to claw it out and burn it with his magic.
He wasn’t playing about his erasthai and they all had to learn that. Even if it was to be the hard way.
All this while, King Zaffuto hadn’t moved an inch.
