Chapter 176: Isn’t It Lovely, All Alone

[KAWAI]

[Thirty Minutes Ago]

"We have to leave before the council meeting ends, krushka," Kosta suddenly said, making Tamiko stare at him in confusion. They had the entire day to themselves and it didn’t matter what the council decided or even the rioters did out there.

They both knew that because the King told Tamiko that he could do whatever he wanted and all would be sorted.

So hearing this from Kosta so suddenly was shocking and Tamiko wasn’t sure if there was anything good that could be bound to the sudden change of mind. It just didn’t make any sense right now.

"What do you mean?" Tamiko asked softly, not wanting to worry the Lycan chief.

He knew that this was not okay but he couldn’t pressurize his erasthai.

Maybe it was because Kosta had been used to working and Tamiko had hijacked his entire day, or maybe it was because Kosta didn’t want to be seen out here with Tamiko which wasn’t a problem because they were camouflaged.

Tamiko had tried to think of every possible reason why his erasthai would want to leave, but still, he ended up with none that was concrete enough to support that sudden claim. What the hell was going on?

"Night is almost here, and we have to join the king at the dinner table. We wouldn’t want to disappoint him on the very first day of your peace with him, my beautiful. Besides, we also have to report to the council meeting for a few seconds;

"... so he knows we are back since he hates so when we use mind links in the council room," Kosta said so casually and simply you would think that there was nothing wrong with that.

However, even then, Tamiko couldn’t help the unease that was lingering.

It just made no sense but at the same time, it made Tamiko want to prod more. He couldn’t invade his Erasthai’s privacy, but damn was it getting hard to trust the possibility that Kosta wasn’t in trouble.

"That doesn’t make sense though," Tamiko said and Kosta laughed lightly.

"It doesn’t have to make sense, my beautiful. Besides, you and I are all that matter right now, everyone else can go down themselves in the ashes of what we leave here," Kosta laughed and Tamiko joined in.

He wanted to push, oh he really wanted to, But his erasthai had made the choice and he had to respect it.

"Looks like we have to leave then, I promise the next picnic will be better and in a place that doesn’t have so many faults," Tamiko said as he pulled Kosta in for a light kiss. He wanted to do more but they had done more than enough for one day.

Besides, they had to report to his father and it would be awkward as shit if they walked smelling like sex. This time, they would have to wait, right?

"I’ll always be beside you, let’s clean up and get out of here," Tamiko said, before insisting that they do a manual cleanup. He was trying to gauge whether what Kosta wanted to do was that urgent or if the Lycan just wanted to leave this place.

It was hard to tell though, because Igor Konstantin was never that easy to read when he was in his protector mode and right now, even then he was trying to hide it, Tamiko could see that he was back to being the Lycan chief, and Tamiko’s protector.

So much was changing in so little time, and Tamiko hoped to the goddess that his father had been the one who summoned Kosta because there he would be mad at everyone and the realm.

He would probably take his erasthai and leave Kawai never to be seen again. Or maybe Tamiko was overthinking this, no. Well, thirty minutes later, he is slowly learning what shit should have been for them.

"Kosta... what is she talking about?" Tamiko asked as he took in the night before him. The councilmen and women were looking over at themselves for the woman who was staring at him amusedly like he was the object of so much ire in the worst of ways.

It was not fair, but Tamiko didn’t care right now, he looked at his uncle – Lord Sadako – the man who had always been composed, who was right now thinking with rage. He looked very opposed to what was happening there.

His father, on the other hand, didn’t even look like he was there with them. His face was unreadable and Tamiko knew that that was the state his father always wished himself into when there was a serious issue going on.

And the only thing that Tamiko could think of right now, other than the riots outside, was that he had been the reason for all this. So, what the fuck did it have to do with his erasthai then?

"Aren’t you going to come clean to your little rogue?" Minister Inara taunted and Minister Hyou sighed. He knew that Inara was playing a dangerous game and he wanted to stop her, but if Konstantin was here already, then there was no stopping this.

The Lycan chief had to have already known what was bound for him and what he would be forced into. He had to have weighed earlier and had made his decisions right before them.

"Say something, Kosta," Tamiko pleaded as he looked at his erasthai who was glaring at the councilwoman and the others coldly. It was like this wasn’t even the worst he had been subjected to and yet he wasn’t about to debate that on any scale.

He was wilding and boy was it an insane choice on so many grounds. Perhaps it was the kind that they needed to work out along the way but what the fuck was he supposed to be working out right now?

"You don’t have to do this, Chief Igor, there has to be another way around this." minister Hyou said, trying to save his ass and Kosta snickered at the man.

He was of course aware of what was happening and deep down, since the murders of the Hanzos, Kosta knew that there had to be someone who would take the fall this time. So he looked at the people in the council room once again, before he made his decision.

"My beautiful soul," he began as he turned to his Tamiko with a smile on his face as if the fate he was to face wasn’t nerve-racking already. This was pure madness and he had to have known that too, but perhaps he just had to wait, right?

"Kos—" Tamiko began and Kosta just kissed his forehead, instantly shutting him up. It was not okay, what he was about to do to Tamiko, but then there were more than they had bargained for at the moment.

Their lives had changed drastically over the past few months and there was no denying that their right here was one step either closer to the goal that they hoped was happiness or it was a step further from what they had believed to be true.

Perhaps this was what the fates had decided for them but was it supposed to be this hard and complicated then?

"I love you. Please trust me," Konstantin said before turning to the council members, "I’ll take the punishment."
