Chapter 175: So, I Guess I Gotta Stay Now

[KAWAI]

The council room was on fire. It had been hours since the king had come and since the discussion of Tamiko and Danny’s presence in the kingdom had been raised. And seven hours later, there was no concrete response from the council members.

Some of them were being motivated by the rioting Lycans outside who hadn’t stopped since morning. The kingdom was in chaos and right in the middle of it was the Lycan prince, his father’s son and the one man who the king would bring down civilizations for.

"The kid killed Hanzo and you killed Hanzo senior. None of you talked right about what was needed and now we are telling you to imprison the kid and you don’t want to? What kind of a king are you?

"Is this what you disappeared only to come back to us with?" Minister Hyou said as he glared at the king, they had grown tired of the way that things were edging off frankly. It was understandable.

They had been talking to the king, trying to make him see sense and the king hadn’t uttered so much as a word since morning.

Lord Sadako had been doing the talking while the king watched boredly like he had better places to be that didn’t involve the hellhole that was staring at him right now. The king wasn’t bothered, that was the one thing that was pissing off the council members.

"You’re addressing the king, minister Hyou. You need to be careful with everything you say," Lord Sadako warned, even though he knew that this would result in.

He had tried his very best to hold the fort and if the king had shown the slightest bit of interest, they would have been way too far with the discussion. But then King Zaffuto Hinata didn’t care about anything.

He was just there for show and he was not even interested. It was appalling to some extent but then the councilmen didn’t have the power to oust a king, and that too King Zaffuto Hinata.

First, because it was impossible to do that, and also because it was a death sentence to Kawai.

The king was the only reason the kingdom had started standing and right now, as harsh as he was dealing them the crazy cards, they knew there wasn’t a thing that they could do to change that.

"The kid murdered a sitting member of the Kawai council and you don’t want to take action. Think of what that would mean for the kingdom and the other councilmen. We need to act now and if you can’t give us the kid;

"... then we will punish Chief Konstantin, seeing as he is the one mated to that rogue and he has the power to eliminate him," Minister Inara said as she stared right in the king’s direction.

She had seen the king make factories and if this was the prize then something had to give, the kidnap had messed up with one of their own and if the king wanted to avoid a revolution then someone had to pay the price for it.

"Chief Konstantin? Are you out of your mind Inara? That man has done more for this kingdom than we all have combined. You are walking in dangerous waters. If you choose to punish the barbarian, I must make it known that I will vote no to that as early as now.

"I am not going to put my family as a target for the wild barbarian," Minister Hyou said as he looked at Inara who was not even bothered. It was like he had been thinking a lot about this and frankly to her, there was no other solution to this.

"If you are that opposed, then the wolf pays the price for the madness outside. Word has it that he was the reason the kid snapped Hanzo’s head off. Which one will it be? Chief Konstantin or the wolf?" Minister Inara asked.

Lord Sadako looked at his brother who hadn’t even racked up until this point earlier. He was staring at them with a broom, but even now, at the mention of Kosta, the king hadn’t even moved a muscle.

He had gone still like he was about to pounce on his next prey and all the best were directed at the woman who had dared to suggest harm to his son-in-law. It was a dangerous gamble for Minister Inara and he was giving her the chance to make things right.

Surely the woman had better things to worry about right?

"You can’t be serious. The crime was committed by a Lycan—" Minister Hyou said only to be interrupted by Minister Inara.

"...Who was acting in his defense? What happens, is we have two Lycans dead and no one to answer for the chaos that had started. We also have a good part of the kingdom rioting.

"So unless you want to go and tell them that they won’t get justice and turn Kawai into a lawless land where people murder each other aimlessly, then go on and do it," Inara said casually.

Minister Hyou stared at the woman like she had lost her mind.

Harming a wolf in the Lycan kingdom would squash all the alliances that the kingdom of Kawai had made with all the other werewolf packs. It was a dangerous thing because the realm had to coexist in one way or the other.

And if the wolves were at war with the Lycans, nothing would ever be the same. It wouldn’t make any sense that this kind of thing was approved.

"Inara you at risk—" Minister Hyou began, and once again was interrupted, making his groan out in frustration. He just needed to make things clear for the Minister but then it was like there’s a lot more that they had to consider first.

"What is the problem..." Minister Hyou trailed off as he looked at the source of his interruption. The door of the council hall had opened and through it, came the culprit of the session and his erasthai, a man they had respected so much in the kingdom.

The other council members stared in faint surprise as they had never seen the Lycan chief interrupt a meeting that he had been late to, that too by so many hours. It all just didn’t make any sense at the moment. But perhaps there was a way around this right?

"Well, well, well. If it isn’t the best Lycan chief for the past three centuries," Minister Inara said, her voice dripping with rage and sarcasm.

She knew that Igor had been the one to chop off Hanzo’s hand before the king had even eliminated the dumb councilman, and right now, she wanted vengeance for what the Hanzos had had to live with.

It was not going to be easy, but then it wasn’t like anyone had said that it was perfection, right?

"I didn’t think you would answer my call, Chief Igor. This is certainly a good surprise," Minister Inara said and Tamiko stared at his erasthai, wondering what the fuck was going on he had known that they would eventually have to face a council meeting but this didn’t seem right on any scale whatsoever.

"Kosta... what is she talking about?" Tamiko asked and Konstantin just turned to his erasthai with a smile on his face.

"I love you. Please trust me," Konstantin said before turning to the council members, "I’ll take the punishment."
