Chapter 169: Wherever You Go, That’s Where I’ll Follow

[KAWAI]

"The riots are expected, Father," Tamiko began as he looked at his dearest father, a man who had walked on literal fire just to see to it that he is never forgotten.

Tamiko was certain that his father had done more than he ever would have done if their positions were switched and it was that aspect of life that motivated the son to look at his father differently.

They had endured more than anyone would have thought possible on different sides of their lives, and now that they were here, Tamiko wasn’t going to make his father’s life harder than it already was.

He would try his best to understand his father to be on the same side as the man who he worked his ass off just to make peace with a people that had been the worst to him long before he had even ascended the throne.

It was a cruel strategic seat that King Zaffuto had sat on but even then, had managed to have a heart of love, and one that made life a tad better for the rest of them.

It was more than anyone could ever comprehend, and while Tamiko was the king’s son it was something that even he was unable to understand. His father had sacrificed way too much and hadn’t once asked to be appreciated for it.

That was something that Tamiko was intending to change.

"Expected?" the king asked curiously.

Of course, he knew that that was what was happening and he was ready to fight for his son until the very end, but the fact that Tamiko was casually addressing him as ’father’ and not the king, was something he was interested in.

Maybe this was just a game by his son, but then, the longer they talked, the more the king realized that maybe his son wasn’t playing with his feelings after all. It was a dangerous assumption.

Tamiko knew that too, but what if this was not just a game for the young prince anymore? What if it was the one decision that had been waiting for him for the longest time and that now they had gotten to make another way?

"Yes. With or without Hanzo’s death, they would have still found a reason for them to riot. Like uncle had said yesterday morning, the tension is rising because of the rogue and wolf in Kawai," Tamiko said and the king stared amusedly.

His son was really something. They had just started the day, and now it was like the young prince had gotten a read on the situation and was contemplating the best ways to get shit done. He was truly a piece of work.

"What would you suggest I do then?" King Zaffuto asked and Lord Sadako stared at the man like he was losing his mind. Hell, even Kosta was certain that that was not the right question to ask the young prince.

Tamiko was filled with so much rage and hatred and if that was not controlled for him, the Lycan prince would spiral into the wave and it would be an endless cycle. It was the one thing that made Kosta worry; because he knew Tamiko.

Hell, even Danny knew that Tamiko wouldn’t stop. And the fact that he was like his father didn’t make it any better because this was the most dangerous pair of Lycans. Oh, they needed to be rational before there were endless messes.

"Call for a council meeting. Hear what they have to say about the citation. Gauge the good and the bad then decide if either way is worth it. Whatever decision you or they make, I am not going to be leaving Kawai.

"If I can’t stay as the rogue Lycan or my Erasthai’s mate, then I will stay, for you, father. I will stay as your son and together we can fix what the usurpers ruined. Besides, even if they say they want me gone;

"... I still have a few people to hunt down for the betrayal years ago, so I won’t leave anytime soon anyway," Tamiko said and the table erupted into murmurs, while the father and son held each other’s gazes.

One was kind and determined while the other was shocked and in disbelief because of what he had just heard. This was an impossible love that we slowly proved to be possible.

It was like the fates had finally decided to ease up on the strains when in reality, the fates never really had a hand in whatever decision Tamiko made.

He had always done it willingly and now that he was here while his father had been expecting a usual threat about leaving, he was warming his father’s heart with the notion that he wouldn’t leave.

’Oh goddess,’ the king sighs internally with relief as he holds back his tears of joy. He had waited for so long to hear those words from his son ever since they had found each other.

He had done his very best to be understanding with the kid and now his patience was paying off and the king wasn’t sure if he was the one who could rush out there and scream out in joy, without paying heed to the people who were rioting outside.

It was something that made him wonder what kind of life was headed for them. But then again King Zaffuto wasn’t complaining about anything. His son was her and that way all that matters.

"Are you sure about that? The kingdom can be messy most of the time, and it won’t be the best place for you. There are conspirators in every corner and people who want me one. If you insist on staying there will be a target on our back too, son.

"You will have to work with your erasthai and uncle to keep you safe. There will be way too many restrictions and like we have always known. You are a free bird. Is that what you want to commit to?

"It is not going to be easy and it could make you lose your mind, not literally though," King Zaffuto said worriedly. As much as he was excited to have his son stay home, he knew that the risks and attachments in Tamiko’s life would never stop.

Hell, he was the big bad king and yet despite the reputation he had already, there were still people the longer the Kawai tunnels who conspired against him. It was no secret that the crown was a heavy one for anyone to bear.

But would it make sense to them though?

"I am your son. If I had been kidnapped and you hadn’t been betrayed, then I would have grown up in that very mess, with your protection. We have not suffered for sins that he didn’t commit for the longest time—

"... and we can’t continue paying the price for that with separation. We will be fine, father. Trust me this time, because I don’t intend on leaving home again unless you kick me out yourself, but until then;

"... I will be right here beside you, reminding you that you won’t lose everything and that we can get through this together," Tamiko said determinedly and the table went quiet again.

This was definitely not what they had expected and boy we sit interesting to even listen to. Then again, Tamiko was done running. He wanted to stay with his family and he wouldn’t stop for no one.

"My Kaito," the king whispered endearingly.

"Yes, father. It’s me. Your Kaito Hinata. I’m home... Papa."
