Chapter 170: We Lose Our Minds In A City of Roses

[KAWAI]

When he had woken up earlier today, the mad king didn’t have any expectations of the day, really. He had known already that the Lycans would riot and he had seen the chances that his son would want to leave him again.

He had read through the minds of so many people and he had known what he needed to expect. Even then, there was nothing that could have prepared him for how the morning had turned out at breakfast.

It was almost like the universe was playing some games only that they weren’t in a game at this point. This was a reality he was living in, a life that he had waited for one too many times.

If he had been a dreamer, he would have thought that this was one of the dreams that were impossible to make a reality, and yet here he was, with his dear son looking at him softly and at the other side of the table, looking ready to take on whatever was his way.

It was something else and King Zaffuto had to remind himself that he was still a king.

"You are home," the king breathed emotionally as he whispered the trees that threatened it once again full from his eyes.

This was not something that he experienced daily so he just stared at his son softly, hoping to the goddess that this wasn’t some fucked up reality because if it was, then it would be the worst of gifts any father could ever get.

But surely there was a hint of manipulation at play here, right?

"You two are going to make me cry and I’m too old to be emotional. Serve your food and eat, and no more emotional talks," Lord Sadako said as he looked at the father and son. He was proud of how they had acne and he wished the best for them.

It wasn’t something that came hard for the Lycan lord because he himself had seen how hard life had been for the king without his son. He had watched how his brother suffered through the loss of not seeing his son and how that had been so obvious it broke his heart.

The mad king had always been a father in his element and it was making his heart shatter. Here and now, wherever, while he was determined to scold his brother and his nephew, Lord Sadako, was happier than ever.

This was a dream come true for him. So instead of saying anything, the table erupted into a wave of laughter, lighter than they had always been, and this time, they were hearty laughter.

They were beautiful peals of laughter despite the fact that the Lycans were rioting outside.

Then again, they would deal with all of that at a later time, when the time’s right. Until then, this was their chance at happiness and a family that made sense without so many restrictions either way.

"Alright, alright, we wouldn’t want you to keep sniffing around here," King Zaffuto said and they all let out laughter once again. It was a beautiful moment, one that screamed family.

Even Danny who had wondered about how the morning would go for them was suddenly smiling. Perhaps this was what happened when they worked on the same goal, right?

"Sire... what do we do about the riots?" Chief Konstantin asked once they were done.

He knew that the riots wouldn’t be stopping anytime soon unless a high-ranking official gave a statement, but what statement was to be given when the decision had long been made by the king then?

"Leave them be," King Zaffuto said, making Kosta stare at him questioningly.

"They will still riot until they have my son, and that is something that won’t happen in this lifetime. If the riots turn violent, you know what to do, chief. Sadako and I will be at the council meeting sorting out what needs to be done.

"Kaito, you and Daniel can linger in the hallways and whatnot, but do not leave the space. As much as I feel bloodthirsty enough to kill everyone, I don’t want my son’s initial days here to be marred with bloodbath at every corner," King Zaffuto said and they all just nodded understanding.

He had given them their orders and they knew to follow them.

Maybe when this was over, they would be one happy family that didn’t have to struggle to live and maintain the balance between good and evil or even the kind of pain that came with staying on the sidelines.

Time would tell what they would have to do. And once again, the group dispersed to go do what was expected of them.

"Krushka," Kosta called out softly when the king and Lord Sadako were gone.

"I’ll be in my assigned room, brother, once done you can come we play chess. It’s been a while since I kicked your ass in the game," Danny said, excusing himself before Kosta could even say a word about that.

He knew that the mates had been away from each other emotionally for a while and with the chaos that was fucking up their home right now, they needed to find ways to be closer.

"Alright. See you later, Danny," Tamiko said, bidding goodbye to his brother who just went away with a smile plastered on his face.

He was just as good as everyone at the breakfast table earlier to note that Tamiko and his father were not fighting again. That was the kind of relief that they wouldn’t have gotten with ease and boy was it an interesting one.

"Gods, I have missed you so damn much," Kosta said as he pulled his erasthai into a hug, holding onto him softly and delicately while clinging onto him ever so tightly like he wasn’t about to let Tamiko go at any point in time.

"You smell so good, my precious," Tamiko said as he breathed Kosta’s caramel scent in. He had cast a spell on his erasthai, the kind that made it so that only Tamiko knew his Erasthai’s scent was caramel.

"Let’s get out of here," Kosta suggested.

Tamiko didn’t even wait... he simply created a portal.
