Chapter 167: Lovely To Be Rained On With You?

[KAWAI]

For a moment, it was like the world stilled.

Tamiko’s mind was on overdrive as he tried his very best not to give in to the tears that were threatening to fall from his eyes.

He had not expected that this was truly what his Kosta had sent him, but at the same time, he knew the message behind Kosta’s little nudge was getting clearer than Tamiko had thought possible.

This wasn’t just the remainder he needed but it was also something that got the Lycan prince releasing more than he had thought possible. His father had wanted him to know that he was loved and adored, that despite all that had happened, the king had never once stopped looking.

Oh, it was more than obvious.

"Tamiko... This means..." Danny began as his words trailed off. He wasn’t sure what the hell he could say to this because honestly, this was more than either of them had anticipated.

The king was known to have hidden himself away from the world and yet as the two friends walked around the room, they could see clothes that were from zero years old to twenty-six, which was the age Tamiko would be turning soon.

The king had been dedicated to his desire to find his son and he had never been released. He was the father who never stopped trying to find him and boy was it a hard slap on Tamiko’s face.

"He always hoped I would come back," Tamiko completed Dany’s sentence. He knew that this was a harsh truth for the both of them but there was never going to be a time that would ever change for them.

King Zaffuto had been looking, and the boy was Tamiko’s instant realization. Perhaps he just had to try and make it make sense.

Maybe he just had to fix what was there for the lot of them because, at the end of the day, there was no denying that the king was a loyal man, a good father, and an excellent king. Oh, how it hurt to some point, the truth that was horrifyingly staring at them.

"Oh goddess... what did I do?" Tamiko asked as he thought back to the previous encounters with his father. He had been mean to King Zaffuto and he had always lashed out more times than he had embraced the king.

He had always felt the king’s door not finding him sooner, desiring the obvious fact that they were in the same place for the longest time. However, standing here, Tamiko felt like the answers he had been looking for were staring right back at him.

His father had always waited for him, always hoping that he would someday make a show. This was the reminder that for the twenty-five long years that the king had spent in hiding, he had also tried to hope and wait for the return of his son.

He had loved his son through his greatest fears, and while there were days that the king might have felt discouraged, he had struggled through the pain and kept hoping.

Tamiko had never been one to know his birthdays, so he was never once bothered to ask, but the fact that the king was already having his birthday setup already, knocked the breath out of Tamiko’s lungs.

This was not how it was supposed to be and yet this was how the universe had chosen for them. It was a cruel truth, a reality so fucked up that no one would ever be able to match regardless of what they all tried to do. But would it make it all any better?

"There’s still time, Tamiko," Danny said as the realization dawned on him.

The king had been suffering too. He had been trying his best and failing along the way and it was never because he was not determined. That is something that reconfigured Tamiko’s heart even more.

His father was never the one on the wrong side and the boy was Tamiko so damn pissed off.

"I judged him harshly, Danny. I was cruel to him when I should have been understanding to him. I should have been better than all the people who probably judged me for not protecting the kingdom back then," Tamiko sighed in defeat.

He hated the way he had raced back then because now that he thought about it, his reaction to that of the people who had broken his father’s heart was just the same. He had been cold and he had been cruel too.

He should have tried to understand, but would that have made the outcome a different one for them?

"You did what any broken child could do. You suffered in Grealor for twenty-five long years Tamiko. You endured the shit that no one was supposed to endure and when you finally found your parents, you hated them for not coming for you.

"That is a valid point of view. Your father is and has always been the most powerful creature in the realm. And yet despite all of that power and his mere existence, he was unable to find you.

"Trying to hate him for that doesn’t make you a bad person. You both are victims and your anger is justified. Both of you. None of you knew that you were being played by the wolves of Grealor.

"None of you knew that you meant something to each other until it was probably too late," Danny explained and Tamiko sighed. He hated what was happening and he hated that this was something that he and his father had completely been oblivious to.

Grief had a way of clouding judgment and Tamiko knew first-hand what that meant. He had been suffering for a long time and he knew so damn well what it meant to be on the receiving end of a pain that he couldn’t control.

Sure, he was always the Lycan who held fast, but there was always that kind of pain that would never leave. It was the kind that stuck with him for years and years on end, so he couldn’t even begin to imagine the pain that his father had felt.

The man had gone from being the ruthless cruel king to being the most understanding king because of Liana, and then to being a shell of who he had once been because both his Liana and his heir had been taken from him.

He had lost so much in one night and he wasn’t even ready to fully comprehend the extent of his loss, twenty-five years later. This was insanity at best and Tamiko desired the fates for what had happened to him and his father.

"Someone played with the both of you," Danny said, his tone of defeat making him feel terrible for his best friend.

He had seen the young Lycan do whatever was needed just to find his father and now that he had found the man, the truth that had been lingering was staring right back at them. But perhaps it was time for the son to understand the father completely, right?

"What will you do now?" Danny asked noticing the rage on his best friend’s face.

"Go to breakfast. I made my father a promise," Tamiko said as he went to the washroom to clean up and Danny followed suit.

This would be a long morning.
