Chapter 160: But Your Arms Were Open At My Door
[KAWAI]
The king... knew.
In the shadows of the loneliest palace in all of history, stood the figure of the king, a man who had spent years and years hoping to reunite with that which was his.
He had strived so hard and tried everything he had from where he had been and still managed to get nothing, and then suddenly his son had shown up in front of him, lighting up the world that had always been darker than darkest for him.
It was the only good thing that had happened in his life because King Zaffuto had wanted to do more than just run to embrace his son.
So, when he watched what the Hanzos had dared to do to his son and his guest, the king was certain he wouldn’t forgive.
Perhaps that was why Hanzo senior was right in front of him, chained up in silver laced thorn chains and beaten to a couple his organs had started to fail.
"The boy... Why?" The king asked as he looked at Hanzo senior. Those three words were said with so much cold that Hanzo himself could feel the way that the room went colder than before.
He knew down there was no escaping this, because the last time anyone had seen the king like this, was when he did that to the wine in his life.
"I... Sire..." Hanzo trailed off, his words failing high because of the way that his tongue was swollen down his throat. The king had literally beaten him up like he was the greatest enemy in Kawai.
It was a harsh sentence, but one that the king wouldn’t ever recall nonetheless.
King Zaffuto had made sure to be seen with Tamiko. He had made sure everyone knew the boy had his favor and yet despite the very public knowledge out there, the Hanzos had chosen to terrify his son.
They had chosen to play catch with that which they shouldn’t have, the devil’s favorite son, and now the price for that was staring right at Hanzo senior.
"Speak up like you did with him out there," King Zaffuto said, his voice devoid of emotions.
He had never been a sentimental man, but when it came to his son, the king would watch the entity of Kawai burn, if that was what his dear son wanted. And right now, he could tell that Hanzo wasn’t apologetic enough.
The mishap earlier shouldn’t have happened and Hanzo should have used his brain. Well, the king helped him out this time, right?
"Help me..." Hanzo pleaded, as his bloodshot eyes turned to look at a motionless and emotionless lord Sadako who was watching everything from his free feet.
The Lycan lord knew that nothing would save Hanzo from this, and he could only wish that the Lycans learned their lessons.
He had wanted his brother about the possible repercussions at the breakfast table earlier but when he had seen for himself how the boys had misbehaved with his nephew, the Lycan Lord was ready to fuck him up.
However, Kosta had insisted that he deal with the citation in the public eye, because it would make more sense for Kosta to step up and defend his erasthai, than for the king and Lycan Lord to step up for a rogue Lycan and a beta wolf in their territory.
"That is not an answer, Hanzo. Why did you defy me when you more than anyone knew so damn well that the kid was not to be touched or even stared at the wrong way? Why did you grab him like you wanted to beat him up?
"And if he killed your son, did you ask why he had killed your son or you just wanted to show what power you held in Kawai?" King Zaffuto asked, before letting out a humorless chuckle.
He couldn’t believe that this was happening right under his roof. He loved his son and Hanzo would pay the price for what he did.
"I’m... I... Sire, apologies," Hanzo forced out knowing so well that the king was bound to kill him either way. Even then he didn’t want to die knowing that the king thought that he had disrespected him because King Zaffuto was a very vengeful king.
Whatever Hanzo did would reflect on his friends and family and even worse, on anyone who ever talked about him. His death wouldn’t be the end of the chaos and he knew it so damn well.
It was a life that he had never thought he would experience; but here he was, living the kind of horror stories that people never came out of alive.
"Say hello to your son, you worthless—" King Zaffuto began as he used his magic to strangle Hanzo before he was interrupted by a sound that he could have sworn he never expected.
His brother didn’t stop him, and he knew that Igor Konstantin was too much of a barbarian to mess up the chance of watching anyone get fucked up by the king. Sure, Igor wasn’t here, but he would have loved to.
’Don’t... Please... if you plan on killing Hanzo for earlier today, please don’t. Spare him and I’ll sit at every lunch table with you,’ Tamiko’s voice came through the Hinata mind link, shocking the king a little too much.
He hadn’t expected it and with the way that his hold on Hanzo faltered, the king clearly hadn’t expected what his son had said. It was one thing to plead for a man’s life but he was getting more time with his son because of the bastard he wanted to kill?
What the fuck was the king supposed to make of that?
’What?’ King Zaffuto responded softly in the mind link. His son was his greatest weakness and strength and right now, as much as he hadn’t expected what Tamiko had pleaded for, he knew he couldn’t say no to his son.
He wasn’t that strong a king or father to deny his son whatever Tamiko wanted.
’Or you can ask me for anything... anything and I’ll give it. Just please, if you plan on killing Hanzo, don’t do it. You are a king and your actions will reflect on your crown. Don’t taint it because of me.
"And even if you do, I wouldn’t want you to start your kingship again like that, so please,’ Tamiko insisted, almost like he knew his father was going to ruin the life of Hanzo senior.
It wasn’t that hard to tell because the father and son were similar in one too many ways. Tamiko had wanted to murder Hanzo himself to send a message to the Lycans, that no one was allowed to hurt his best friend no matter how far apart their races were.
He wanted to make it known that he wasn’t scared of the dungeons; which was true, having grown up as an outcast, but when he thought back to his father sharing the same rage; he couldn’t take it.
His father was a good person in his eyes, and no number of murders that the king committed would ever change that. The son loved his father just as much as his father loved him, even though Tamiko was not going to admit that openly to the king anyway.
"Please, spare my life," Hanzo’s pleas interrupted the king’s communication with his son, and wordlessly, the king shut off the mind link with Tamiko, before making a decision that he knew would affect the entirety of Kawai... and his son.
