Chapter 161: A Time For The Unknown Known?
* Happy new Year 2025!!
[KAWAI]
As the tides changed, the king knew that so much was bound in the process too. It was more than just a gut feeling or even the fact that his son was back home. It was more than what could have been done in a time when pain was their key motivator.
It could also be because time was the one thing the father and son didn’t have, or all that had happened to him over the last few weeks, or because, despite all that they had tried to work through together, it was all proving difficult.
"You..." Tamiko was forced out in disbelief. He should have expected the decision made but that did not mean that he wasn’t shocked by how shit had turned out. His father was very supportive and had leaned towards his own one too many times.
So, this was not supposed to be hard and yet as Tamiko looked at his father, he honestly didn’t know what to say to him. He was a shell of what they had agreed on and honestly, that scared the Lycan prince.
His father was a monster, and he had known it earlier. Perhaps he had just hoped that regardless of what happened along the way they would be fine with whatever they had to deal with. But would it ever be okay for them?
"You seem to have something to say, Tamiko... What is it?" King Zaffuto asked and his son stared at him like he truly didn’t recognize the man before him. Maybe that was the truth because no matter how hard shit had gotten, Tamiko had known he could count on his father, so what the fuck had happened then?
Tamiko was curious to know how this kind of madness had begun. Perhaps it wasn’t going to be as easy as he had thought because of the way that he was seeing him right now but a part of him truly expected this, right?
"Nothing, I am okay," Tamiko said coldly as he kept tapping his feet at the dinner table.
He was pissed and disappointed but he couldn’t quite let his father know that. Perhaps the kid already knew but what difference would it make for him given the way that everything was slowly getting fucked up at the moment?
"Okay," King Zaffuto said as they continued with the dinner. There were a lot of questions lingering around but no one could even think of stringing the conversation anymore.
Danny was confused about what was happening, because the tension at the table was unlike he had ever seen before. He had heart Tamiko talk about his father in one too many ways, but this was the first time that the Lycan was coldly looking at his father.
Kosta himself was staring everywhere but at Tamiko. It was almost like his dinner table was suddenly the most interesting thing for him more than his very dear mate.
Lord Sadako, on the other hand, looked like he wanted to smack the shit out of everyone at the table. He looked pissed so bad that it was terrifying and frankly Danny was horrified at the thought of being caught in the middle of the mess.
Then again, that was quite the hilarious thought, seeing as he was the reason they had all gotten to his point. It was insane, truly, how they had strived to make a lot of shit make sense and now they were stuck at a table that was so tense than the breakfast table.
Was this what it meant to be on the side of the Lycans?
Was this what it meant to have a family for Tamiko? Oh, but it was a confusing moment and there was no denying that for the boy. Perhaps he and his father would figure it out along the way, right?
"Have a good night, all of you," Lord Sadako said, excusing himself first from the table. He was the most transparent with whatever he was doing and now it seemed like Danny was about to be left in a land of beasts with no one to calm them the fuck down.
It was insane to some point, because at the end of the day, regardless of what they did, they all had to come home. But what was home like when this was all they would figure out?
Danny himself was a wolf and the Lycan king hated the wolves so much he could easily strangle Danny just to piss off his son. But was the Lycan king that level of mad? Was he that wild and insane or was it just a figment of Danny’s brain that was messing with him this time then?
"I’ll take an early night too," Kosta said, when he realized that the tension was too thick.
"Come with me, little wolf," Kosta added and Danny would have hugged the Lycan chief then and there, this right here was the first time he felt like Kosta was trying to save him. There was so much on this table that had to be unpacked and Danny was worried about how to get away from it.
He had seen Tamiko angry enough times to note that at the end of the day, the young Lycan prince would be uncontrollable and that his life had to be a fable for the highborn again.
Oh, how Danny wanted to say that this wasn’t what he was thinking it was but then the truth was staring right at him. He had to let shit happen like they needed to, right?
"Okay sure," Danny said, instantly getting up.
He didn’t have to be told twice and Kosta almost chuckled at the way the werewolf was hurrying away from the dinner table. The food was delicious, way too delicious, but the tension was so thick that a knife couldn’t even cut through.
It was so harsh and cruel but Danny just wanted to disappear. It was the only way for him anyway.
"You look like shit," Kosta teased once they were out of the dining room and they could relax. Danny felt like a breath of fresh air had been pumped into his lungs suddenly and he couldn’t help but be thankful again.
Hell, right now if Kosta wanted to kick him out of Kawai, Danny wouldn’t even think to fight the Lycan Lord. He would go on ahead without so much as a fight. He couldn’t even be bothered by it.
He knew that life was about to get really tricky on this side of the realm and no matter what the werewolf wished to happen, he was just another cog in the endless wheel of time and love and resources.
He had to find a space for himself, and the Lycan lands were definitely the most unhinged part of his fate. But he would be okay, right? He didn’t have to struggle again, right?
"Says the one who abandoned his erasthai at the butcher’s table," Danny said as he turned carefully to look at the dinner table. The king and his son were engaged in a stare down and it was like they were about to fight each other. But would they?
Well, Danny wasn’t going to stay to see the rest of it because suddenly sleep seemed like a good thing for him.
"Oh, well, I’m going to bed. Goodnight, Igor," Danny said right, and before Kosta could say a word to him, the dining suddenly table split into two.
