Chapter 158: The Redefinition of Home
Chapter 158: The Redefinition of Home
[KAWAI]
"I believe my erasthai said something, Hanzo," Kosta reminded so casually as he wiped his sword on Hanzo’s clothes that are quickly getting covered in the man’s blood. The Lycan chief head chopped off the man’s hand like it was nothing.
"Wh—" Tamiko struggled to let out the shock of seeing this erasthai stand up for him for the first time back home, and the magnitude of it all slumping him even further into shock.
He had been used to Kosta letting off people with warnings, telling them to stay away, and making sure that no one ever came to hurt him.
Oh, but Tamiko had never expected that his barbaric erasthai would come to his defense... and that too, like that. This was insane, and for the first time, Tamiko didn’t know what to feel.
"It’s okay, my soul. You’re okay, no one’s going to hurt you as long as I’m here," Kosta reassured as he held onto Tamiko, pulling his erasthai into a gentle hug, one that spoke a thousand things at the same time, with the predominant feeling being safety.
He wanted Tamiko to feel safe with him and he wouldn’t let anyone fuck that up. Not even a high-born council member of the king’s inner circle. Kosta didn’t give a fuck about anyone right now.
"You... Your erasthai killed my son!!" Hanzo insisted and Kosta stared at him unbothered.
"And you know the chain of command to deal with that. You are a council member. You could have simply asked the warriors to arrest him for his crime, and he would be arraigned.
"But you just had to command and lay a finger on him, no? Besides, didn’t one of these Lycans tell you that it was in self-defense? A life for a life, Hanzo; you more than anyone already know how that works.
"The next time you try to lay a hand on my erasthai, will be the last time you will be seen alive. Let this serve as a warning to all of you. My erasthai is off-limits. And the wolf too, you hurt him, you will have to face me.
"Oh, and Hanzo, since you hurt my erasthai, your claims have no strength to them. Take your time, mourn your son, and make sure to remember the promise I just made. I won’t make it again," Kosta said angrily, his eyes getting darker as he thought of the possibility of anyone hurting his mate.
He hadn’t brought over his erasthai just so the Lycans could come and have a taste of him, and he would make sure to remind them of that each time they even thought about it.
Kosta knew this was probably going to cause more unrest, but he would deal with that when he was certain his erasthai was fine, that was the only thing that matters and hells be damned if anyone tried this shit with his erasthai again.
"This isn’t over, Igor Konstantin," Hanzo senior said angrily as he walked away with his now-healing hand. He hated what had happened to him and the humiliation and he knew that despite what Kosta had said, a retaliation was a must.
Kosta had said it himself.
A life for a life and Tamiko, a mere rogue, had taken his son for him.
But would that ever really end well for the man though?
"Are you okay, dusha?" Kosta asked once he was in his room with Tamiko. He had teleported from the goods and went back to his changers because he didn’t have the strength to look his mate in the eyes and admit his failure.
He had promised Tamiko that he would be safe in Kawai, and that no one would dare to try and hurt him.
He had sworn that things like these wouldn’t happen and he had managed to not keep his promise again, this was not what he had hoped for; especially not with the way that his erasthai was staring at him right now.
"I’m sorry... I just... I told him not to touch Danny. I wanted and yet they tried to poison the only friend I have left. I couldn’t let that happen, Kosta. I couldn’t let them take the only person who stood by me all this time.
"I couldn’t lose him like I lost everyone else," Tamiko rambled, his mask from earlier off as he let himself be vulnerable with his erasthai. He had never gotten to be this vulnerable and Tamiko was scared of what Kosta would think of him.
On the other hand, however, he wanted to let Kosta in to know what he was feeling and how this shit was fucking confusing for him. He didn’t want to hide anything and he knew that that was how their relationship could move forward.
He had to open up and Kosta had proven time and again that he was a safe place for Tamiko no matter what part of the realm they were in.
"I trust you, dusha," Kosta began and Tamiko stared at him asking what the event meant in this context. It was a statement that could be translated differently and as Tamiko looked into Kosta’s eyes for more answers, he willed himself not to overthink.
"What?" the young Lycan let out.
"I trust you. So, if you say they were threatening you, I trust that they are. No one will hurt you, again. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to keep them off and turn you against hurting you today," Kosta apologized and Tamiko leaned into him.
The day had been hectic for the both of them and they had to deal with a murder and a plotting councilman. This was not going to be easy for them and yet even then, Tamiko chose to believe that Kosta wouldn’t hurt him.
He chose to trust that his erasthai meant well for him.
"But Kosta... Hanzo won’t just let this life. I saw his eyes and I saw his desire for revenge which isn’t my greatest worry for me though. I am just worried that he might try to fuck up your work and life because of what I did to his son;
"... and I don’t exactly have the power to protect you like you protected me. What if all of this is not going to be good for you? What if there is so much that you have to deal with and I am unable to help out?" Tamiko asked and Kosta chuckled at how caring his erasthai was.
It was understandable how Tamiko was worried for him, even though he knew that he had the power to make everything better. Perhaps it was as genuine as Tamiko’s heart because the young Lycan definitely couldn’t love himself if anything happened to Kosta.
"You’re home, my beautiful. And home means that you are safe, protected, and cared for like you should have been for all those years. Home means your father will not rest until you are happy.
"It means your uncle won’t let anything slide if it means causing you harm. And home means that I won’t let anyone hurt you ever again, no one, not even those that I call friends.
"Home means you don’t have to worry about your own safety, because we are all here to make sure that you are safe, always. And happy too. That’s why we let you tag along with the wolf, because he makes you happy and whatever it is that makes you happy has us all on board," Kosta clarified.
