Chapter 143: The Empty Hope In Sight

Chapter 143: The Empty Hope In Sight

[TAMIKO]

"Who the fuck are we bringing back?" King Zaffuto asked as he carried his son outside where he had been with Danny.

At first, the king had thought that Tamiko had lost Danny and that’s why they wanted him to be brought back, but when they saw Danny, they were confused.

Nothing about what Tamiko had said had made any sense, other than the desperation in his voice that had made me so limp like that.

"What happened here?" Kosta asked, his voice calm even though he was word about his erasthai. He wanted to think that Danny had harmed his erasthai, but Kosta knew more than anyone that Danny would never hurt Tamiko.

It is strange how calm they were wishing life had gotten them a little too fucked up. Perhaps they all just had to sit and wait for something, anything that could make it make sense to them. But was there anything?

"He always faints when he’s in extreme pain," Danny said calmly as he looked at his best friend on his father’s shoulders.

He had avoided talking about his mate because he knew Tamiko would always blame himself for that and Danny hadn’t been wrong because this was what they had to deal with now.

Frankly, it wasn’t something that got him extremely worried, because this time, he knew he had to let Tamiko feel the pain too. His best friend had wanted to share in his pain and he wouldn’t be the one to stop that from happening.

Some things were simply canon, right?

Poor Danny.

"What does that mean?" King Zaffuto asked, as he struggled to stay calm. He wanted to force Danny to answer his questions but he had a feeling that Tamiko would never talk to him if he tried that shit. It made no sense and a lot of sense at the same time.

"Well, Tamiko just learned that Gabriel murdered my mate the day that Lord Sadako murdered Judd," Danny responded earnestly, trying his very best not to break down here. He knew what this would look like and he didn’t want to act like he needed attention.

He wanted his best friend, but Tamiko’s fainting was also what Danny needed to know that he had never expected. It hurt Tamiko too, and frankly, a part of Danny was alive to know that.

It made him understand that even with the cold facade Tamiko always wore, the young prince would always be humane. It was a redeeming feature that Danny was glad his best friend hadn’t lost in the preparation for the crust of wars.

"He what?" Kosta asked as he looked at Danny, his eyes softening for the young wolf.

Kosta was probably already imagining what he would do if he lost Tamiko. That wasn’t even a thought he wanted to program ever, because there would be nothing to live in or on if ever that happened.

Hell, the king himself would make lives so unbearable regardless, so him being this parting was something new even for Danny. But did it even matter when there was a chance that they had all messed up again?

"He’ll be fine, don’t worry. And before you suspect me, I didn’t do anything to him," Danny said softly as he stretched his hands over the fire that was supposed to be for two. Shit was not even happening right and he hated this reality.

But what else could he do then? It wasn’t like he could wake Tamiko up and tell him to hold back his guard dogs, no? Then again, was that all that the king and Kosta were or was Danny just sick of living the greatest of lies out there?

He wasn’t doing okay and he couldn’t keep lying to himself. He was a broken wolf and Tamiko knew that too. Perhaps that could explain why he was so nonchalant about this all, because he had nothing left to lose.

The only person he could have risked losing was already immortal and had the strangest and craziest bloodline, so he was safe either way, right?

"I know you didn’t do anything to him. What do you mean Gabriel killed your mate?!" Kosta asked, the anger evident in his voice for Danny’s pain and Daniel Belova turned to look at the man who was talking.

Everyone in the realm knows the barbarian Konstantin.

They knew that this man was one of the many devils that Kawai had successfully produced. They knew rules didn’t mean shit to Konstantin and they knew that Igor would fuck up everyone who was in his way.

He was a cruel man who protected all he considered a friend. His rage right now was obvious, but then that wasn’t even all of it, because Danny looked at the king who was holding his brother on his shoulders, and he could see the glint of raging blue eyes.

What in the world was happening?

"It’s been months already. Besides, it’s not like going after Gabriel now could make him come back, no?" Danny said, before his words registered with the trio that was conscious at the moment.

It was something that they hadn’t expected but fuck the pieces of the puzzle were fitting a little too perfectly and boy was Danny in shock.

"Your mate... that is who Kaito wanted us to bring back?" the king asked and Danny started them before he realized how deep this rabbit hole was about to go. It was one thing to hear and another to hope and Daniel Belova was scared of hoping anymore.

He didn’t want to think that his mate could come back, or even that the two psychos were able to bring his dear mate back. It was something that he didn’t want to think of and yet he found himself wondering if it would be a nice thing to happen.

He had lost his mate and had struggled to live through his days, especially with Tamiko gone, but right now, it just wasn’t making him feel any better.

"Kaito?" Danny voiced instead of what he really wanted to know.

He wasn’t sure he would ever be able to handle what he had to deal with right now. It was crazy and hurt a lot. Perhaps the sanity that he was holding onto was the one thing that would keep him sane.

"Do you want us to bring him back?" Kosta asked and Danny stared at him. He wasn’t sure if that was a trick question or the answer that he would have to work through at the moment. Life was not worth it, no?

Then again, Danny had lived for months without his mate; well, technically he had been in mourning. Would it make any sense if he finally got him back? Would that mend the bridges that may have been burned? Would they get back their lives?

"You’re asking if... What?" Danny asked as he looked at the king.

"What’s the catch?" the young wolf added. He was not sure this was something he could deal with. There had to be a catch. The big bad Lycan king didn’t just go around doing favors for wolves, the same race that had fucked up his son’s life and his life.

"There is no catch, Daniel. Not with us. We’re doing this for our Tamiko," Kosta said, before adding, "but there’s a chance that your mate’s body might be hijacked and some other spirit will come back instead of him. Is that a risk you want to take?"
