Chapter 142: Bring Him Back, Please!
[TAMIKO]
"I intruded in your space. I should be the one saying sorry because look where it got us."
"No, Danny. I’m sorry about what I did to Galya and your dad," Tamiko stated apologetically. He really meant it this time. Perhaps because over the past few months, Tamiko had tried to make it make sense.
Maybe he could have handled things differently instead of forcing his best friend into being like him. There were always going to be different ways that he could deal with issues, and the Belova 0one had ripped so many hearts.
"I know," Danny said before adding;
"I guess a part of me always knew that you coming to take us out was a possibility. We all knew what we had been forced into and we should have fought against it, but we didn’t have the courage. Thor deaths are not just on you though."
"It still hurts to this day," Tamiko said earnestly. He had tried to live his life and be happy with his new mate, but even he knew that there was always going to be a blank space where the people he had loved had once been.
Perhaps the fates had just decided to be the worst to them because there was just no other explanation for all of this. None of it made any sense and it was heartbreaking in too many ways.
"Even then, I still understand. I don’t fault you for it. Maybe if we approached it differently, we would have all been happier, right?" Danny said and Tamiko sighed as he looked at him like the world was not fair. Well, wasn’t that the truth anyway?
"You got a mate that night, Danny. How is he?" Tamiko asked after a long silence. He had seen Dany happier that night and he had wished his best friend the happiness that the world could give. It was almost like the universe had given them a reason to hold on then.
"Gabe killed him when Lord Sadako killed Judd," Danny breathed out and Tamiko felt like this was the worst of things that had ever happened to the both of them. There was just no way that he had managed to fuck up his best friend’s life like that.
"No... Why?" Tamiko asked, though he was scared of the answers he would get from him. This wasn’t the time for them to pretend either way, because the secrets had fucked them up to this point. Nothing would ever make it better.
Eventually, they would just have to learn to live with the pain and try to make it in life with what they had. The fact that the supernaturals had really long lives wasn’t even making it any better for Danny because this kind of hell that he hadn’t imagined was ever possible.
"He said it was the only way to make me feel his pain too. He took someone I loved. Because I loved you and protected you. He killed him on the same morning that my sister and father lay on the field. It was quite the craziest moment really.
"That morning, I lost more than I bargained for and I didn’t even know what to do," Danny said earnestly and Tamiko got up before he began pacing. His heart was hurting for his best friend.
His heart was shattering for the boy who had been nothing but kind to him, the boy who had welcomed him when the world had fucked him over one too many times. It was not fair what Danny had gone through and Tamiko felt sick.
For the first time, the consequences of his actions were staring right back at him and Tamiko wished he would disappear.
He had always been on the receiving end of people’s cruelty that he never thought there would come a day when he would do this to anyone, much less to his best friend. It just made him feel like a monster and that night, Tamiko cried out on his knees.
He couldn’t take the pain anymore and he didn’t even want to start comparing with Danny because he knew Danny had to have had it worse.
Tamiko knew he would burn the world and everyone in it if anything ever happened to Kosta, even though they were both immortals.
He would make sure everyone felt the brink of losing a mate and yet here his best friend was, talking about the lost mate like he couldn’t do anything. Like he couldn’t fight back. It was something that made Tamiko feel like a monster.
"Wh... I’m sorry, Danny. I didn’t... I didn’t think you would lose that much. I wanted to... Oh goddess," Tamiko forced out as he bent over in the distance and puked his guts out.
He had been strong in mind for the longest time, but learning that he had hurt his best friend indirectly was fucking with his brain. He couldn’t imagine the loneliness that Danny was experiencing right now.
Tamiko couldn’t begin to fathom the courage that his best friend had because of what he had done to him. To think that he had been the one to fuck up the one person he loved more than life just made him sick.
"It is what life is, little brother, yeah?" Danny said as he wiped the tears that were falling in the silence of the night.
He was trying to be brave, but tonight, he couldn’t feel his brevity anymore. Here with his brother, Danny felt like he wasn’t alone anymore and he had someone who truly cared about how he felt, someone who understood what it meant to lose.
It was the harshest truth that Danny had held onto because at the end of the day, he couldn’t deny the fact that his association with Tamiko had cost him more than possible.
And yet even then if the world was to put them against each other, Danny wouldn’t fight Tamiko. It was probably the curse of fate because he loved Tamiko like a brother.
He saw Tamiko as the younger brother he needed to recite, even if that meant losing more than he bargained for. Tamiko was his family, and even though it was hard being linked to Tamiko, Danny was still a loyal one.
And Tamiko knew that too. Perhaps that was why he rushed back into the house, leaving Danny next to the bonfire without anything to do other than think back to the sorrows that had linked them. Oh, but the universe was truly a bitch.
"Kosta!!!" Tamiko cried out as he rushed into the house, his voice worrying Danny, but at the same time, Danny still trusted that Tamiko would never intentionally hurt him.
If Tamiko had wanted to hurt Danny and could have killed him because all of the Belovas were involved in keeping Tamiko’s secret, but Tamiko hadn’t done that. Instead, he had left Danny alive, which was not something enemies did for each other, yah?
"Wake up... please!!" Tamiko begged and his father was up faster than his erasthai was. Granted they had been awake and hip in the night would sail smoothly, but that seems like that was a forlorn dream.
"What happened, son?" King Zaffuto asked as he rushed to hold his son. This time Tamiko didn’t fight him, or even bother making his father feel like shit. He simply cried on his father’s shoulders while Kosta watched in confusion.
"Bring him back, please," Tamiko begged, before he fell unconscious on his father’s shoulders.
