Chapter 139: The Soft Reunion of Broken Hearts

[TAMIKO]

Gabriel was hurting, and it was obvious in the way his eyes squinted and how he looked at the sky as if to fight off his tears. He had been telling himself that this meant nothing, that he was ready to let Tamiko go.

He hated that things had happened like this; and even when he heard the loud kissing sounds, he knew there was never going to be a chance for him with Tamiko.

He despised that reality and he wanted to take out his anger, so wordlessly, the young wolf shifted and rushed in the direction of the pack house.

He knew this wasn’t what he had imagined, but then the man was constantly breaking his heart like it was a story to be played with. Oh, but Gabriel was the one hopelessly holding on to Tamiko like he couldn’t see the man had someone to be with at the moment.

"You’re cruel, Tamiko... You’re really cruel," Zakhar whispered before he told the other warriors to leave too. They couldn’t be standing here without Gabriel, because they didn’t matter.

Tamiko could kill them and it was easy, because he wanted Gabe to suffer. Perhaps they just had to wait it out, but what the fuck was there to wait out?

What the hell was he supposed to do when one of his best friends was dead but in the hands of the man they had treated as a slave the entire time while the other was slowly losing his mind?

"Brother... You’re... You’re back?" a voice interrupted Tamiko and Kosta’s kiss, making the Lycan chief take a stance right before Tamiko.

He didn’t care what side of the world Daniel Belova walked on, because if the man tried to mess with Tamiko, Kosta wouldn’t hesitate to take him out. It was that simple and Kosta hood that Danny wouldn’t push his limits this time.

Tamiko looked at the best friend he had had for the past twenty-five years. He looked at the man who had defended him and stood by him despite the clear differences, and been ready to risk his life for him in ways more than once and never asked for anything in return.

Danny was the one person Tamiko had truly considered as a brother and yet Tamiko had fucked that up..

Well, he didn’t, because he had only ever gotten his justice. He had fought back for the first time since he had been in Grealor and ended up ruining the lives of a lot of people.

Tamiko had broken Danny’s heart and he always regretted that; then again, the guilt that was eating him couldn’t compare to the rage that Tamiko felt each time he thought of the things Grealor had forced him to do as the outcast.

Perhaps that was why it was easy for Tamiko to assume that Danny hated him and wanted him dead. Frankly, Tamiko wasn’t opposed to that. He wasn’t opposed to seeing his friend turn against him because he had murdered the Belovas in the cruelest of ways.

It wasn’t what anyone would have imagined and it was a horror that still fucked him up to this very day. The shock he had experienced the night after the murder was something that Tamiko would never get over.

The tears he had intentionally brought to his best friend’s face were never going to make him feel any better, because for days after that evening, Tamiko had thought of himself as an irredeemable monster.

He had accepted that truth and figured he was more like his father than his mother. It wasn’t something he could spell out loud, but to this day, he was haunted by Danny’s cries from that day.

"Easy there, barbarian. I could as easily point my sword at you if you so much as make him cry again. I still haven’t forgiven you for leaving him with a letter and making him cry for hours, Konstantin.

"You still owe me a battle for that," Danny said as he walked closer to Tamiko. He knew he was risking everything by being here, especially given he was the current Grealor beta.

Well, that was what he was supposed to be, if tradition were to be followed. But then without his family, Danny didn’t want any power in Grealor. He hated that he was here with the same people who had shared the chaos that cost him his family.

He hated the beta seat more than he hated Grealor, because it was that seat that came with so many secrets. That seat had cost him his best friend and had cost him his twin and father.

That seat had also been the reason he was alone in Grealor right now, without anyone to run to. He had lost his best friend and was here standing before Tamiko, looking like shit.

"Talk from there. You have no reason to be here," Kosta said and Danny just laughed at him.

"You know, for someone who made my brother truly cry, you sure have some nerve. You may be mated to him, and probably ready to lay your life for him, and I know he is ready to do the same for you, but that doesn’t make me trust you, Konstantin.

"Remember what you said when you first came here? How you talked about loving him, never ruining his life and then going on to leave him with a damn letter? He may have forgiven you, but like I mentioned, I won’t forgive you for that.

"Now you can either get out of the way, or the king inside the house will have to watch me fight his son’s Erasthai. Decide, and fast," Danny said casually as he looked at Kosta and then at the house behind them, making Kosta stare at him like this was unreal.

He wanted to say that Danny was using magic, but long before he had known that Tamiko was the prince, he had known of the most loyal friend to the Grealor outcast.

"I meant to come back for him, Daniel. I wouldn’t have left without him," Kosta said as he looked at the beta who was staring at him coldly like Kosta was the immediate threat to Tamiko and not the fact that Tamiko was in Grealor.

"The same way you met with that bastard in the woods for him? I bet you heard him cry and danced to the tune of his pain, no? Or was it so important that you report to your masters about your finding the missing prince;

"... that you forgot the part where he was the erasthai you needed to protect and love unconditionally, huh? That makes you quite the mate, but hey, I won’t judge him for staying;

"... because even with your faults, you are honestly the best thing that happened to him," Danny said as he looked at the Lycan chief before him like that was all the reality that Kosta needed to get the air out of his lungs.

So wordlessly, Kosta stepped aside, leaving Danny a direct line to Tamiko.

The barbarian’s head was lowered, which was something new, and while Tamiko wanted to fight for his mate, he understood where Gabe was coming from, which was even more confusing because Tamiko had expected Danny to be mad at him.

"What do you want, Danny?" Tamiko asked at the same time that Danny spoke worriedly.

"You look thin, little brother, are you okay?"
