Chapter 381: He looks like he’s taking a mug shot.
Back at Doctor Bai’s room, Han Zhan was pacing like a caged tiger. He stopped abruptly, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Nooooo!" he exclaimed dramatically. "He blocked me! Babe, am I that annoying?"
Doctor Bai, engrossed in a captivating novel on his floating screen, merely glanced up. "Probably," he replied nonchalantly.
Han Zhan, "..."
Han Zhan’s shoulders slumped. "What? You really think I am annoying?" He turned his back towards Little Bai and his shoulders began to shake like he was crying.
Little Bai, "..."
He said, "What are you crying for, I didn’t mean it like that." But Han Zhan kept looking away looking like he was really hurt. It was truly a sight to see a big man pouting. He sighed as he got up and walked in front of Han Zhan who turned his heard away. Han Zhan wasn’t crying but he was pouting.
"I didn’t mean it like that," Doctor Bai clarified, finally putting down his book. "What I mean is your cousin is trying to figure things out and you massaging won’t help the situation more especially if the person he likes is mad at him." But Han Zhan still pouted like a mad husky.
"Okay, imagine this," Doctor Bai said, a mischievous glint in his eyes, "imagine your cousin is messaging you incessantly while we are... enjoying ourselves. Would you respond?"
Han Zhan hesitated, his bravado momentarily forgotten. "I... I would," he mumbled, his voice barely audible.
"Lies," Doctor Bai chuckled. "You wouldn’t. You would cussed him out to high heaven."
Han Zhan caught red-handed and turned his head away, the pout returning in full force. "But you think I am annoying," he whined.
Doctor Bai reached out, gently caressing Han Zhan’s cheek. "Of course not, silly. Now stop pouting and pay attention to me. I have been waiting for you to notice."
Han Zhan finally looked up, his eyes widening in surprise. Doctor Bai was wearing the sexy bunny outfit underneath his robe. It was exactly the one he had bought for him and little Bai had said he would never wear.
"You look... so sexy, babe," Han Zhan breathed, scooping Doctor Bai up in his arms. Han Zhan and Doctor Bai indulged in their own passionate embrace wrestling in between the sheets.
Meanwhile, Han Xin, unaware of the domestic bliss unfolding at his cousin’s place, continued his walk, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Han Xin returned quickly with a tray filled with fragrant dishes. As he reached the doorway, he found the steward blocking his path, his expression grim. The old man, usually so stoic, radiated an aura of simmering protectiveness, like a seasoned guard dog defending his little sheep.
"If you hurt His Highness," the steward growled, his voice low and menacing, "I will find you and make you regret ever setting your eyes on him. Do you understand?"
Han Xin was a little taken aback by the unexpected ferocity. He truly hadn’t anticipated such a forceful confrontation from the elderly man. From his past life, he knew Xiang Yu and the steward had a good relationship so much so that Xiang Yu, fearing for the steward’s safety, had even exiled him, believing it was the only way to protect him.
In this life, their bond seemed even stronger, the steward fiercely protective of Xiang Yu, as if the Crown Prince were a fragile piece of porcelain.
A strange warmth bloomed in Han Xin’s chest. He was actually grateful. This Xiang Yu, unlike the ruthless tyrant of his past life, had someone who truly cared for him, someone he could trust implicitly.
"I understand," Han Xin said, his voice calm and sincere. "I won’t do anything to hurt him."
The steward, visibly tense moments before relaxed. He knew of Xiang Yu’s past transgressions against Han Xin, the years of torment and manipulation.
He had feared that Han Xin’s current proximity to the Crown Prince was a calculated move, a slow and insidious form of revenge. But Han Xin’s genuine concern, the sincerity in his voice, had quelled his suspicions.
"Good," the steward said, his voice softening. "I am going to sleep. Please attend to him if he needs anything."
Han Xin nodded a silent promise in his eyes. The steward, satisfied, finally stepped aside, his gaze lingering on Han Xin for a moment longer, a silent warning, and then disappeared down the hallway.
Han Xin opened the door and found Xiang Yu deep in conversation, his face illuminated by the soft glow of the lamplight. He was leaning back against the cushions, a captivating smile gracing his lips as he spoke.
Han Xin paused, a flicker of unease stirring within him. Who was he talking to? Was it Sienna? Or worse, Sirius? The thought sent a jolt of icy dread through him. He curled his fingers around the edge of the tray, his knuckles white, before relaxing his grip and stepping inside.
He sat down beside Xiang Yu, the tray of food neatly arranged on the low table. "Who are you talking to?" he asked, his voice curious.
"I am talking to Lian and Mei," Xiang Yu replied a mischievous glint in his eyes. "They asked where you are."
A smile tugged at Han Xin’s lips. He began to unpack the food, his movements smooth and deliberate.
"Take a picture with me," Xiang Yu said suddenly, pulling Han Xin closer into the frame.
Han Xin froze, his movements stiffening. He had never been one for pictures. In his past life, photographs were solely for official purposes like student IDs and formal portraits. The idea of posing for a casual photo filled him with a strange, unfamiliar unease.
"Smile a little," Xiang Yu chuckled while poking Han Xin’s cheek, "you look like I am holding you hostage."
Han Xin managed a weak smile, a stiff, almost robotic expression. Even Hex, who was afraid to come out when Han Xin was around reacted. "Holding hostage, humph," Hex’s voice, a low, synthesized hum, echoed through the room. "He looks like he’s taking a mug shot."
Xiang Yu, "..."
