Chapter 380: Eager beaver

Xiang Yu finally let go of Han Xin like they were done talking about this. Han Xin was confused and it showed on his face. "Wait," he stammered, "aren’t you going to tell me what to do? What is it that you need me to do?"

Xiang Yu chuckled a low rumble that vibrated in his chest. "Oh, such an eager beaver," he teased, his thumb gently tracing the curve of Han Xin’s nose. Han Xin recoiled, startled by the unexpected intimacy. Before he could even question him, Xiang Yu grabbed his arm, a swift, surprising move that sent Han Xin tumbling forward.

He landed against Xiang Yu’s chest his face against Xiang Yu’s warm skin. Xiang Yu’s arms encircled him, a possessive hold that sent a jolt of awareness through Han Xin. He felt the gentle caress of Xiang Yu’s fingers through his hair, each touch sending a shiver down his spine.

Han Xin’s gaze, wide with a mixture of shock and a burgeoning desire, fell on Xiang Yu’s partially exposed chest. The muscles beneath the fabric rippled with suppressed laughter, and Han Xin found himself inexplicably drawn to the sight. He leaned forward, his breath ghosting over Xiang Yu’s skin, eliciting a soft gasp.

"What are you doing?" Xiang Yu asked, amusement colouring his voice.

Han Xin emboldened, deepened the kiss, his arms wrapping around Xiang Yu’s back, his fingers grasping the man’s waist on either side. He tasted the salt of Xiang Yu’s skin, the scent of plumeria and sweat intoxicating.

Their playful wrestling was abruptly interrupted by the sound of the door open. The steward with a stern expression, stood frozen in the doorway, a tray laden with delicacies trembling in his hands. His eyes, wide and shocked, darted between the two men entwined on the couch.

Han Xin immediately scrambled to his feet, a blush creeping up his neck. He was shameless around Xiang Yu, but the thought of being seen by others... was simply unacceptable.

Xiang Yu sighed, watching the steward retreat, his face a mask of indifference. He couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. It was just the steward, not the entire palace.

The steward, still visibly shaken, finally managed to place the tray on the low table. "Han Xin," he stammered, "you haven’t eaten yet. The food is ready for you in the kitchen."

"Thank you," Han Xin replied, his voice subdued. He started to leave, but Xiang Yu stopped him. "Wait," he said, "bring your food here. We can eat together."

Han Xin, his heart pounding, readily agreed. This was his plan all along. He knew he was on thin ice after his crime in the morning and wanted to spend as much time as he could with him to make up for it.

He bowed his head, a docile facade masking the wolfish grin that tugged at his lips. Xiang Yu saw through the charade. Han Xin appeared docile but Xiang Yu knew he was a wolf in a sheep’s clothing.

As soon as Han Xin left the steward’s gaze darted between the door and Xiang Yu’s inscrutable face. Xiang Yu could tell he was hesitant to speak so he broke the ice and asked, "What is it?"

The steward finally spoke. "Your Highness," he began, his voice hesitant, "you and... Han Xin. You shouldn’t be too close. You know what the Imperial Lord expects of you."

Xiang Yu remained silent, his gaze fixed on the steward, a chilling stillness settling over him. The steward, under that intense scrutiny, felt a cold dread creeping into his bones.

"You were only meant to use him for your disorder," he continued, his voice trembling slightly, "and he would be compensated well. Not... this."

This entire time, Xiang Yu had no idea that Han Xin had long suspected the steward would have this conversation with him. Han Xin wanted to know what Xiang Yu would say.

Whether Xiang Yu was using him entirely for his disorder or not. Han Xin didn’t care. As long as Xiang Yu stayed by his side obediently, nothing else mattered. Han Xin suddenly didnt care for the answer. He was about to turn the video off on his communicator when he heard Xiang Yu speak.

Xiang Yu finally broke his silence, his voice low and dangerous. "He is the only reason I am here," he said, each word heavy with meaning. "I don’t care about the Imperial Lord’s expectations or what the rest of this world will think of me. I am letting you know this because I trust you."

The steward felt a surge of conflicting emotions. His loyalty lay with Xiang Yu and he would never do anything to betray the crown prince but he was still so worried

about the challenges that lay ahead for him.

He wanted to protect Xiang Yu, to shield him from the inevitable backlash. Yet, he also yearned for Xiang Yu’s happiness, a happiness that seemed inextricably linked to Han Xin.

Han Xin, on the other hand, felt his heart thumb furiously in his chest. He didn’t fully understand their implications, but a warm glow spread through him. A smile touched his lips, a rare and precious occurrence.

He turned the surveillance video off and

continued walking only for his communicator to show him fifteen notifications all from BaiBai’sBae. Han Zhan was still blowing up his messages asking him if it was really Xiang Yu. With a sigh, Han Xin blocked Han Zhan for a day, silencing the incessant pings.

In his past life he had always been a solitary figure, a wanderer with no true home. But with Xiang Yu, he had found a sense of belonging, a purpose that transcended his own desires. He had found someone who saw him, truly saw him, not just as a means to an end, but as a person with feelings.

For the first time in his life, Han Xin realized that this connection, this fragile, precious bond with Xiang Yu, was the most important thing in the world to him. Maybe this was why he was reborn. To experience something he never got to in his past life.
