Marshal Wu thought that if it wasn’t for this, then Xiang Yu would want to use his granddaughters to get support on his ascension to the throne. He implanted scenarios, setting traps that would allow Xiang Yu to reveal his true intentions. But countless times, Xiang Yu sacrificed himself for them.
He was so overprotective that one would think he had birthed them. Marshal Wu was confused. Who in this world would have such a kind of love with no blood ties? Even blood ties would fail to do what Xiang Yu was willing to do for the twins.
Marshal Wu sensed that Xiang Yu was in distress, on the verge of a mental breakdown, so he immediately retreated and stared at the young man with a look of puzzlement. Xiang Yu slowly came to and, for a moment, was confused. "I am sorry, I fell asleep," he said.
The Marshal didn’t speak for a moment before asking, "Your Highness, why do you care so much about my granddaughters? Is it that you want my support, or are you doing this for your father?"
Xiang Yu replied, "I don’t want anything from you. I don’t even want the throne... I don’t want something that should have never belonged to me. As for the twins, maybe in another life, I was their father. That’s why I care so much."
The former Marshal furrowed his brow wondering if Xiang Yu knew something otherwise why would he say, ’something that should have never belonged to me’. The hovercar fell silent. Just then, it came to a stop right at the imperial palace gates.
When the imperial guards recognized the insignia on the hovercar, they directly let them in. As they drove through the imperial grounds, Xiang Yu said, "I hope the Marshal won’t prevent me from being close to Lian and Mei. I truly have no bad intentions."
The Marshal snorted as he looked out of the window. He finally said, "We will see," as the hovercar stopped in front of Xiang Yu’s palace.
Xiang Yu smiled, knowing what "we will see" meant. It meant that the Marshal had agreed. "Thank you, Marshal Wu, for taking me home," Xiang Yu said.
The Marshal waved his hand, gesturing that it was nothing. He watched as Xiang Yu exited the hovercar, his mind still reeling from the young man’s words and actions. For the first time, he wondered if perhaps he had misjudged Xiang Yu.
Xiang Yu walked up the stairs. Just as the Marshal drove out of the palace gates, Xiang Yu leaned against a pillar, looking drained of all his strength. He had suffered a minor disorder today, taken strong inhibitors, and drank a lot. It would be a miracle if he was okay. The steward rushed out and helped him in, yelling, "Your Highness, what happened to you?"
Xiang Yu said, "Why are you yelling? Why not let the whole palace know?" The steward covered his mouth and instantly became apologetic. He helped Xiang Yu upstairs.
Meanwhile, Han Xin was curious to know what had transpired between Xiang Yu and the former marshal. He couldn’t hack the Marshal, even if he tried. This curiosity distracted him while he was infiltrating the Raunet family, gathering all their secrets.
Han Zhan noticed. He walked over and stood behind Han Xin, his hands in his pockets, looking at the floating screen that hadn’t moved for a minute.
"Cousin, you are distracted. If it’s because of someone you like, why not ask for my help?" Han Zhan said suddenly.
Han Xin pulled down his screen and asked, "Don’t you have a job to go to?" as he got up.
Han Zhan acted pitiful, fake limping. "I hurt my leg, so Doctor Bai gave me sick leave. How awesome it is to have a doctor on call."
Little Bai, who was working on something, said, "Keep that up, and I will break your leg for real."
Han Zhan said, "Babe, you can’t do that to your husband. I thought you loved me."
Little Bai replied, "Keep talking, and I will break all three legs."
Han Zhan instantly covered his lower half. "Why bring my bird into this? You can break the other two, but if you break my bird, you are going to have to take responsibility."
Han Xin, feeling this conversation was too much for him, turned to walk away. He heard Han Zhan saying, "Husband if you really break it, what will you use?"
Han Xin almost rolled his eyes. He walked towards the crown prince’s palace when Peng Xiu sent him a message. He unlocked his communicator and opened the message.
There was a picture of his room overturned and his things torn apart. Even the baby blanket he was wrapped in when he was dropped at the orphanage, which had his name stitched into it, was now torn and covered in dirt. Han Xin froze, his fingers trembling.
Peng Xiu sent another message saying, "This time Xiang Yu has gone too far. He did this." Another message soon followed with Peng Xiu saying, "I will talk to Father. This time I will free you from that tyrant."
Han Xin, in the past, would have believed that Xiang Yu had really done this, but knowing what he knows now, he knew it had nothing to do with him.
He was going to have to deal with the person who really did this and make them pay dearly. What he didn’t expect was that Xiang Yu had already dealt with the person severely on his behalf. And how exactly did he do that?
Earlier on...
Xiang Yu felt hot and cold at the same time from the liquor. His eyes were bloodshot, but he could still see where he was going. The steward was in shambles. He had already been reprimanded by Xiang Yu for making a fuss, so he couldn’t make much noise. He just wiped his tears silently and said, "Your Highness, no problem can’t be solved. Why drink yourself into a stupor?"
Xiang Yu said, "You are overthinking it."
But the steward wasn’t done. "Your mother would be devastated to see you like this," he said. The steward wasn’t overreacting. In all his years, ever since the little prince was born, he had never seen him drink this much that he needed to be helped up the stairs.
Xiang Yu knew there was no use in arguing with this old man, so he patted his back and comforted him. "I was just so happy today, so I drank a little," Xiang Yu said.
"Really?" the steward asked like he didn’t believe him.
"Really really happy," Xiang Yu insisted.
