Chapter 332: Who did this?

Xiang Yu entered his bedchamber and slumped on the couch, tugging at the top button of his uniform. The steward brought him water and was about to ask what good thing made the prince so happy when the door was knocked. The steward was about to chase whoever it was away when Xiang Yu smiled and said, "Let them in."

The steward wanted to dissuade him, as he didn’t want anyone to see the crown prince in such a state, but in the end, he opened the door. Outside was the staff member he had asked to keep an eye on anything concerning Han Xin, under Xiang Yu’s command, of course. The young lady whispered something, and the steward’s eyes widened.

"How audacious!" the steward yelled, but not wanting to bother Xiang Yu, he lowered his voice. It was too late. Xiang Yu put down the half-drunk glass of water and asked, "What is wrong?"

"It’s Han Xin, Your Highness. Someone tore his room apart, but it’s not serious," the steward said.

Xiang Yu froze, his eyes turning fierce. He and Han Xin might not be together yet, but he would never let anyone bully him, especially in his territory. This person wasn’t instructed to do this by him, so why would they deliberately provoke Han Xin, knowing fully well that he was his attendant?

He got up against the steward’s advice. The steward followed him to the staff quarters. It was as though Xiang Yu knew where he was going. In fact, he did know where Han Xin stayed. He had come to the door twice but slipped away before anyone saw.

He wanted to change rooms for Han Xin so he would stay on the same floor as him, but he was worried that the imperial lord would know that he was treating Han Xin better. This would only attract trouble. Now he regretted not changing his room earlier and coming up with a silly excuse like needing Han Xin close to serve him.

As they reached Han Xin’s quarters, Xiang Yu’s anger simmered just below the surface. When he opened the door and found everything had been turned upside down as if a snowstorm had ripped through the room. Han Xin’s clothes were torn to shreds and covered in dirt as if someone had emptied a flower pot on the bed.

Indeed, they had, as evidenced by the flowering potato plant lying on the bed. Xiang Yu’s eyes widened slightly at the sight of the potato plant, which seemed well taken care of. He really wanted to ask Han Xin what his obsession with potatoes was, that he had to have a potato plant in every world.

Everything was ruined except for the ceremonial robe Xiang Yu had given Han Xin. It seemed the culprit recognized its significance and didn’t dare touch it. There were paint and ink stains on the clothes, as well as torn sheets and pillows.

The paint and ink belonged to Han Xin, who seemed to have a hobby of painting and doing calligraphy, an expensive hobby in this era. The beautiful paintings he had drawn were now torn and scattered on the floor.

Xiang Yu walked in and stepped on broken glass, which crunched under his boot. He picked up one of the canvases and saw a drawing of two figures holding hands on the horizon while a kid was left in the darkness holding a green blanket, the only colourful thing in the darkness surrounding the kid.

The painting was now torn in half. Xiang Yu’s anger rose sharply as his fingers brushed against the torn painting. This was a depiction of Han Xin’s deceased parents in this world, and the lonely kid in the darkness was Han Xin. How could anyone be heartless enough to do this?

Xiang Yu placed the painting down and caught a glimpse of a baby blanket similar to the one in the painting on the pile of destroyed clothes. He picked it up, and when he saw the stitching of Han Xin’s name on the corner of the blanket, he knew that this was the baby blanket Han Xin was found wrapped in. Xiang Yu grew angrier and angrier. Fuming, he said, "Who did this?"

The steward was too terrified to speak, hearing the tone of Xiang Yu’s voice. He had seen Xiang Yu angry before, but this was the first time he had seen him this murderous. The room seemed to shrink under the weight of his fury. His eyes, usually calm, now blazed with an unholy fire, turning a deep, menacing red.

His face contorted into a mask of rage, veins bulging at his temples and neck, giving him an almost demonic appearance. His skin, flushed with anger, seemed to radiate heat, and his breath came in short, ragged bursts, like a dragon ready to unleash its fiery wrath.

"Tell me who did this," Xiang Yu demanded again, his tone leaving no room for evasion or deceit. It was a voice that could make even the bravest soul quiver in fear.

The steward was afraid that Xiang Yu would murder someone, so he stammered, "Y-your Highness, how about you calm down and we can talk about this tomorrow?"

Xiang Yu’s head turned sharply, his eyes dripping venom as if he would kill the steward if he dared not answer his question. The steward, afraid he would be accused of protecting the perpetrator, stammered, "It-it was Xiao He, Your Highness."

Xiang Yu put on a sinister smile that made the old man tremble. He walked out, his figure imposing. "Bring him to me," he said.

The steward and the young woman looked at each other, saying a little prayer for Xiao He. Soon he opened Xiao He’s door in the staff quarters, and Xiao He and his friends were startled. They had been playing cards and chatting about how Xiao He had ruined Han Xin’s things when the door was opened with the master access card.

"Steward," Xiao He said as he stood up.

"Follow me," the steward said.

Xiao He thought maybe the prince wanted to see him, so he didn’t hesitate to follow. He hoped he would be promoted to be the crown prince’s attendant. He had been so tired of Han Xin’s attitude and how he strutted around like he was better than all of them, but didn’t he soon fall out of favour?

Imagining the salary increase and how everyone would respect him more as the right-hand man of the crown prince, he walked faster. When the steward saw this, he couldn’t help but think to himself, "Rushing to your death, huh?"
