Veilbreaker! Oops I Bleed Again -
Chapter 49: Rammed
Chapter 49: Rammed
A group of six observed the battle from behind a towering glass panel.
Five of them wore pristine white laboratory gowns, while one stood out.
He was a red-robed nobleman in his forties.
His chubby figure and yellow hair make him instantly recognizable.
His expression twisted in displeasure.
"Who are these people?" He demanded.
A uniformed man beside him gave a slight nod.
"Apologies, Duke Marcus. They must have entered through the unfinished tunnel we abandoned near the end of Verdant Expanse."
Duke Marcus’s frown deepened.
"And they defeated our Chimera outside?"
"We don’t know yet, Your Grace," one of the white-uniformed men responded.
"But we’ll kill them now."
He turned to another of his men.
"Release the sleeping gas."
"Wait."
Duke Marcus raised a hand.
"Let’s finish and test our Titanhorn and Ravager on them first."
His gaze shifted.
"That Azure kid’s barrier is... interesting."
At that moment, a new voice entered the conversation.
Deep, confident.
A man stepped forward from the shadows.
He’s a knight clad in black armor.
His maroon hair slicked back, revealing a face of sharp features and focused eyes.
"May I join?" He asked, his tone almost casual.
He pointed at Draven.
"That man... interests me."
The others turned to him, slightly surprised.
Duke Marcus let out a lowchuckle.
"Commander Dex. You’re here to protect me, not waste time on some random intruder."
Dex’s lips curled into a slight grin.
"Maybe. But that guy isn’t just anyone."
He glanced back at the battlefield.
"Strength. Speed. A blink ability. If he’s Crimson, he’s beyond the normal level. He can easily defeat those two."
The man in the white uniform scoffed.
"Ridiculous. Titanhorn’s power is unmatched. And Ravager’s speed is absolute. They’ll be torn apart."
Dex deeply chuckled.
"Strength and speed are worthless if there’s no intelligence."
Duke Marcus only smiled.
"Oh, don’t worry. We’ve already started fixing that flaw."
A low, sinister laugh followed.
"Soon, our first human hybrid will be complete."
Dex folded his arms, thinking.
"Then we’ll be the first to claim that thing on the Core Forest."
"Once the three kingdoms successfully unite, nothing will stop us."
He turned his eyes back to Draven.
The man was still engaged in battle.
Dex narrowed his gaze, studying every movement.
Then, to his surprise, Draven looked straight at him.
And he smirked.
Dex’s breath hitched.
He blinked.
For a split second, he thought he had imagined it.
But no.
The man had noticed him.
And that smirk?
It was intentional.
It’s impossible to see them since the outside glass was camouflaged.
No one would surely notice.
A chill ran down Commander Dex’s spine.
"Who the hell is this guy?"
---
Inside the Battlefield...
"That Titanhorn... Draven’s blows aren’t affecting it at all."
Bella watched as Draven’s Morphos smashed into its side again and again.
But each strike only made the beast skid back slightly.
Meanwhile, the Ravager kept attacking Deka’s barrier.
Its claws raked the glowing shield in rapid succession.
Then its tail snapped forward, striking like a whip.
But there’s not even a scratch.
"Keep pissing it off," Deka gritted his teeth. "Buy Sir Draven more time."
Bella leaned forward, peering closely at the barrier.
The Ravager suddenly lunged at her.
"CLANG!"
Its claws slashed the barrier just near her face.
Bella stumbled backward, her heart racing.
The Ravager hissed at her, fangs dripping with venom.
That thing wanted her dead.
Meanwhile, Draven was enjoying himself.
He Blink-dodged every attack from Titanhorn, landing clean blows on different parts of its body.
But the beast barely reacted.
’So, that’s their durability?’
Draven’s mind raced as he continued dodging.
His eyes flicked upward.
Earlier, using Gil’s [Hawk’s Eye], he had glimpsed something.
A camouflaged window.
The color was slightly off.
The inside was darker.
And behind it were shadowy movements.
’They’re watching.’
His smile deepened.
But then a thought struck him.
’Which door leads straight to them?’
Blink.
Evade.
Counter.
His attacks kept coming, his mind racing.
’Or...’
He dodged another massive strike, countering with a clean Morphos hit to the Titanhorn’s ribs.
’What if none of these doors lead to them?’
Draven’s gaze flicked to Deka’s position.
If he picked the wrong door, they might end up in another hybrid nest.
Deka would be pinned down.
"CRACK"
Something snapped, making Draven focus on his opponent.
A fracture ran down Titanhorn’s side.
Draven grinned.
That spot.
He had been targeting it the whole time.
"Already done?"
Draven stopped attacking.
"Deka!" He shouted across the battlefield. "Let’s go!"
Deka nodded, preparing to move.
However, the Titanhorn kept on attacking him.
"WHAM!"
A massive fist struck Draven from the side.
His body didn’t turn to mist.
It was real.
Bella’s breath caught.
"Draven!"
His body hurtled across the battlefield straight into the wall.
"CRASH!"
The Titanhorn lowered its head.
Its massive hoops stomped forward, gaining momentum.
It was charging straight for Draven’s unmoving form.
"DRAVEN!" Bella screamed.
The Titanhorn’s horns slammed into the wall.
"BOOM!"
The impact shook the entire chamber.
Dust and debris exploded outward.
The hole in the wall widened.
The Titanhorn stepped back and charged again.
"No... no... no...!"
Bella’s knees buckled.
Tears ran down her face.
Deka, too.
He couldn’t look.
He didn’t want to see.
The Titanhorn rammed into the wall again.
And again.
Each impact sent shockwaves through the ground.
Draven wasn’t moving inside the hole.
Bella shook her head, gripping the barrier.
"No, this can’t be happening."
The chamber fell into silence.
Only the sound of rubble crumbling and Bella’s quiet sobs can be heard.
In mere seconds, the entire chamber became engulfed in a dense, unnatural fog.
The smoke poured down from the ceiling vents, rapidly spreading throughout the battlefield.
Then there was a soft hiss.
The fog was pulled downward, disappearing into hidden exhaust vents along the floor.
As the battlefield cleared, both hybrids were down on the ground, motionless.
The moment they inhaled the smoke, they collapsed into unconsciousness.
But there is one place that the smoke didn’t penetrate.
Deka’s barrier.
Not even the thinnest wisp of smoke managed to seep through.
Then a low vibration rumbled through the walls.
A door, one they hadn’t even noticed before, began to open.
It’s not the main exit, nor the doors leading to the unknown chambers.
It’s a hidden entrance, perfectly concealed within the wall.
A seamless slab of metal slid aside, revealing the ones responsible for everything.
Three men in white uniforms emerged.
Duke Marcus.
And Commander Dex.
The nobleman stepped forward first, eyeing Deka with thinly veiled interest.
He smiled, a twisted, calculating expression.
"Well, well. What’s your name, kid?"
Deka hesitated but answered firmly.
"Deka."
Duke Marcus smirked.
"Deka, I’ll forgive your little trespassing."
His gaze flickered at the barrier surrounding him.
It was a solid, unmoving wall.
He chuckled, amused.
"In fact, I’ll do you one better."
He took a step closer.
"Serve me."
Deka’s fists clenched. "...What?"
"That ability of yours... that shield."
Duke Marcus motioned toward the barrier.
"It’s sturdy. Impressive. Almost unbreakable."
His voice dripped with temptation.
"Come work for me, and I will give you wealth, security, and a good life."
"How about it?"
Deka’s breath hitched.
Meanwhile, Commander Dex wasn’t looking at Deka.
He was staring at the hole in the wall where Draven had been buried.
’Even if he survived that impact...’
Dex’s eyes narrowed.
’He must have inhaled the sleeping smoke.’
