Veilbreaker! Oops I Bleed Again -
Chapter 48: Speed and Strength
Chapter 48: Speed and Strength
"CREEEEAAAK..."
The heavy steel doors groaned open, revealing a vast, eerie expanse.
Inside, endless chambers stretched into the darkness.
"This was too many."
"My hair stands on end at what I’m seeing," Bella said, rubbing her arms.
The underground laboratory is a vast, eerie chamber with towering stone pillars supporting a high, vaulted ceiling.
The cracked stone walls are lined with strange glowing glyphs and metal conduits that pulse with an unnatural light, casting an eerie glow across the space.
Draven continued to walk.
The floor is smooth but worn, with faint reflections of the massive glass capsules that stand in endless rows.
"This is some beast body parts."
Draven knew since he fought some of them.
But the others, he is not familiar with them.
These capsules, filled with a glowing liquid, illuminate the chamber with an unsettling radiance.
Each capsule held a lot of different parts of beasts that were just connected together.
"These are Hybrid forms," Bella said.
Their eyes were closed, but their forms twitched slightly.
They were as if they were dreaming in agony.
For so long, they believed that a hybrid was just another breed of beast or monster.
"So even the Hybrids are man-made too? "
Draven’s eyes scanned the rows.
"I wonder how they can all wake up."
"What are you thinking again?" Bella replied. "Sometimes I really understand why Naisha is always getting annoyed at you."
"Why? I’m just asking."
Draven turned to Deka.
"Have you seen these before?"
Deka shook his head.
"No... just now."
The guilt from past events is still evident in his face.
Draven looked at Deka intently.
"You... Stop blaming yourself. You had no choice back then. You’re with us now. And look at the place. Maybe this is another underground."
Deka’s throat tightened, guilt heavy in his chest. But he looked around.
"But the design of the wall was too similar. The atmosphere is also the same."
"Are we really going through here?" Bella asked.
Draven exhaled sharply.
"We have to. If Verdants were brought here, we need to check if any are still alive."
They moved forward.
Each step echoed through the chamber.
Draven’s gaze flickered over each twisted hybrid.
There were some whose heads were open, their brains visible to them.
"I can’t understand why they made this," Draven muttered.
The long corridor stretched endlessly.
But as they continued, the capsules became fewer and fewer.
Some were completely empty.
There were shattered glass and dried blood marking the floor.
Then they reached another steel door.
Draven pushed it open.
Beyond the door was a massive, open chamber.
The high ceiling stretched upward, and the walls were lined with a lot of deep claw marks.
Some gouges were small.
Others were deep enough to fit a whole arm.
Draven’s gaze swept over the damages.
"Looks like this place was..."
"CLANG!"
A loud crash rang out behind them.
Metal slammed shut, sealing the door they had just entered from.
Draven’s body tensed instantly.
His eyes moved sharply, scanning the area.
Four massive metal doors lined the far side of the chamber, and they were spaced apart evenly.
"So, someone’s watching us?"
Draven stepped forward without hesitation.
A slow, cocky smirk played on his lips.
"Why bother closing the door? Don’t worry, we won’t run!"
His voice echoed throughout the chamber.
Then he glanced at Deka.
"Stay alert."
Deka nodded, swallowing hard.
He knew what Draven meant.
Bella scoffed. "I can fight too, Draven."
Draven shook his head.
"No. We’re not fighting humans," Draven warned. "Your skill is not effective against monsters, or to whatever it is."
Bella frowned but didn’t argue further.
Suddenly, the two metal doors across the chamber hissed.
One by one, they slid open.
From each entrance, two monstrous hybrids stepped forward from the darkness.
One was a Duskfang Ravager.
It’s a vicious fusion of panther and venomous reptile.
It has a sleek, muscular frame that was covered in deep black fur, blending seamlessly with the shadows.
Its tail, long, flexible, and ending in a hooked stinger, dripped paralytic venom onto the floor.
Two small, curved horns protruded from its skull, its predatory eyes glowing with hunger.
It was fast and deadly.
And it’s almost the same size as Draven.
The other was an Ironhide Behemoth.
It’s a colossal fusion of rhino and ogre.
It towered nearly 5 meters and is a living battering ram.
Its muscular body was wrapped in thick, plated hide, tougher than steel.
A jagged, spiked horn jutted from its head, built for crushing anything in its path.
Its forearms were massive, layered with hardened plating, making them as devastating as war hammers.
It’s a pure, unrelenting power.
Bella’s face tensed.
"Two Rank A? At once?"
Deka, however, remained calm.
He took a deep breath. "Don’t worry. It’s Draven."
His voice was filled with certainty. "He can do anything."
Deka had seen it firsthand.
From the moment Draven took down the Mad Clan, from the fights that defied logic of human strength.
Draven wasn’t just strong.
He was on another level.
Draven rolled his shoulders, smirking.
"Wow... a tail with venom again? I understand the concept. Even if I create a hybrid, of course, I will also make the tail useful."
Draven’s black eyes gleamed with excitement.
"Speed and strength together, huh?"
Draven lunged straight into both of them.
Even though the hybrids were far, Draven dashed three times in rapid succession.
"BOOM. BOOM. BOOM."
In seconds, he crossed the 200-meter gap.
His consecutive bursts made it appear like the distance was so near.
The Duskfang Ravager struck first.
The panther-like hybrid lunged, claws slashing toward Draven’s throat.
Draven crouched low, sliding beneath it.
But as he dodged, the Ravager’s tail lashed out, aiming directly at his back.
Draven’s arms shot up.
"CLANG!"
He blocked the stinger perfectly, parrying it with Morphos.
His eyes gleamed with recognition.
"You won’t fool me with that sneak attack."
It was the same as before.
Just like the Chimera he had fought earlier.
The creator of these hybrids had a habit of making speed-based beasts whose tails were their real weapon.
Draven grinned.
Without missing a beat, he pushed forward, dashing straight toward Ironhide Behemoth.
The towering monster raised its massive fist, ready to smash Draven into the ground.
The moment the fist crashed down, Draven’s body dissolved into mist.
[Phantom Mirage!]
Draven reappeared instantly, directly in front of Behemoth, mid-air.
The Behemoth’s first fist was still buried in the ground.
It was a perfect opening.
Draven swung Morphos downward.
"CRACK!"
The impact boomed through the chamber.
Dust and wind exploded outward.
But the Behemoth didn’t budge.
Draven’s smirk widened.
"Damn, you’re really sturdy."
His excitement only grew.
The behemoth’s feet had sunk slightly into the ground from the impact.
But before Draven could follow up, its other fist swung at him.
It’s another hammer fist strike.
"Watch out, Draven!" Bella shouted.
