Chapter 675: Games, ice cream and fish.

Even before she reached the other ladies, Rize was happily shouting "Mother, grandmother, over here."

Both women waved back at Rize, but none increased their pace, walking slowly with Chi Lian.

The queen dowager whose eyes had been moving around consistently said to her, "I love what you have done with the place dear, we knew that work was on going from the guards who keep outsiders away from the lake but we didn’t think you would turn in into an actual beach."

"I thought it was a waste for such a beautiful lake to go unused, and stay plain. I have been told that it’s mostly used by the ducks I left behind in my parent’s house." Chi Lian answered.

The queen dowager turned and look up, and she said, "Right, if you keep going up, your family’s home is over there, how convenient."

The empress smiled and she said, "My grandchildren will surely grow up having fun in the summer."

"Me too, I will visit all the time." The little prince declared.

Chi Lian pointed across the lake, to the empty unused grassland that was inhabited by a few small animals which lived close to the lake or inside of it. "You can always turn your own end of the lake into a beach as well. It’s bigger, and you can include a bunch of activities. The emperor made it clear to me that I have no rights to the lake at all. I can have this land, but the lake remains his. I must pay taxes every year to use the lake."

The sly emperor was not as easy to dupe as minister Su, because he took as much as he gave, always.

"Mother, what has taken you so long. What are you discussing?" Rize, impatiently left her beach chair and came over to them. She took her mother, the empress, by the arm and sat her down in the empty chair next to hers.

Some of the women stopped their conversations and eyed the royals curiously and nervously. It was obvious to see that they were wondering how to approach the situation. They were acquainted with Rize, but most had not been up close with the empress or queen dowager.

"Your highness." the old madam was the first to break the silence, and she bowed.

"Your highness," madam An, followed.

The gates were opened and others followed, bowing and greeting. When the women were finished, the men, in an organized manner, having been hurriedly arranged by the old master did the same.

The empress said, "Everyone please, don’t mind us."

"Yes, we are here to have fun with our family just like you all so feel at ease." the grand empress added.

Chi Lian located Muyang as the royal ladies made themselves comfortable. He was watching the chef who had started roasting large chicken thighs. His assistant was spicing the meat, it would probably follow the chicken.

"Hubby," she called.

Muyang grabbed her hand and twirled her around. "Shorts and a t. shirt, where is your beach outfit?"

She was in short blue jean shorts, a white t-shirt which was tucked and a wide sun hat was sitting on her head.

She looked over his body, from head to toe and answered, "Shorts and shirt., you are no different from me."

He was simply dressed in a white shirt and black shorts, both of which were plain. His feet were bare, and he walking around without a care unlike her who was wearing sandals.

"Look at how much fun our kids are having." he said.

Mei-Mei was splashing around in the water with her uncles while little monk flew his kite while sitting on his grandfather’s shoulders.

"I am glad that I suggested this." Chi Lian said, proudly.

"I am sure you didn’t suggest it host, do you need a re-run of your conversation with your friends?"

"No thank you." she told T4.

"The number is larger than I expected." he said.

"Manchu’s family, Rize’s family, mine and yours. If we had invited our friends, it would have been bigger. Chi Zimo will show up as it gets darker, I am sure, my baby brother loves these family get togethers." she told him. "I did not count on the royals showing up however."

"I did not count on your brother, the minister being here. Isn’t the unveiling of the old museum tomorrow?" he asked her.

They both looked at Chi Rui, who was sleeping on a beach bed with a hat covering his eyes. Chi Lian could not even begin to guess how the umbrella which was shielding him had got to where it was. Her family must have started stocking up on these things when she mentioned that she owned part of the land to them.

Given the responsibilities her brother had, and how important tomorrow was, he should have been stressed and busy, not sleeping.

"Well,.." she said, and then stopped, "Maybe he is tired from working too hard. I mean he is sleeping at this time of the day despite of the ruckus that God awful loud music is creating." She turned around, looking in the direction of the speakers which had gone from one to two. Why was someone playing club type of music?

It had to be the beautiful daosi’s doing because he had been running back and forth, exiting the beach and returning with items in hand.

’Fun, I am here to have fun.’ she reminded herself.

"Muyang, help me set this up." She took a foldable table from a storage box which was one of those she packed from the house. They set it up and she got large lollipops and ice cream cones, and then she opened opened a small freezer and pulled out ice cream containers.

Muyang bent down and flipped through the storage container. He scoffed as he did, and he looked at her in disbelief. "How much packing did you do?"

Towels, fruits, umbrellas, sweaters, balls, floating toys, torches, snacks, wine, beer, fruit powdered drinks. He saw three other storage containers which were being arranged by Qi Qing and nanny Fang.

"Enough to feed a small army." she answered. She stunned him even further by pulling out a megaphone and asking, very loudly, "Who wants ice cream?

Most of the children and some adults found their way to the table, standing in line for ice cream sweets and fruits.

The old madam and mama Chi came over to help, and Chi Lian got the chance to sit down with Muyang, away from the others on the beach beds she brought.

"Are we spending the night here?" he asked.

"Mmm, the cabins have to be used sometime." she replied.

"Where did you get so much rose wood to build all these cabins?" he asked her.

"You will never believe me if I told you." she told him. "Is that grilled or deep fried fish I smell?" she asked.

Muyang laughed and said, "You made your plans, I made mine."

Chi Lian’s brothers came and dragged her away to participate in a game of tug of war. More games followed, all competitive and all fun.

At night, Ringo and Chi Wei started a bonfire and Chi Zimo, who arrived late as she anticipated entertained everyone with his guitar playing skills that he had picked up recently.

Rose and a few of the teens sung the songs.

Most of the older crowd chose to enjoy cups of hot tea while they laughed at the teenagers. The old madam distributed the keys to the cabins for those who were sleeping at the beach that night. By twelve o’clock, while the crickets chirped outside and soft winds howled, everyone had gone to bed and they were sleeping peacefully.
