Chapter 676: The return of more than lost culture

Chapter 676: The return of more than lost culture

The mighty little peep star: [My kind of crowd.]

Four words and a few pictures of people at the beach.

[Let me begin the guessing game, I recognize Midas Chi anywhere in shape or form.]

[Are the aristocrats entertaining us again?]

[I thought professor Muyang was in a wheel chair but he is running or jogging in that picture. Can anyone clear up the confusion for us?]

[Me too, peep star, this is my kind of crowd.]

[Ice cream, popsicles, roasted meat, wine and smiles while the empire deals with a mass death after the death of affluent people on a yacht. The aristocrats continue to entertain us indeed.]

[How is the death of corrupt members of our society connected to a family meeting up to have fun? Maybe they are celebrating the survival of CEO Jun in the crush of the airplane?]

[Does CEO Chi Wei not care that his ex girlfriend Jian Yu is rumored to be the first guest of Htv’s tea with a beauty?]

[Which beach is that? It looks smaller than most beaches I have been to.]

[That is King’s lake, a private lake in the emperor’s courts which is accessible only to the royal family. I don’t know when it was turned into a beach.]

[The beautiful daosi, my crush, so cuteeee.]

The post was shared in the morning and to some, it was new to their eyes but those in the emperor’s courts, not really. The teenagers had shared their pictures with friends who shared them with parents or grandparents. It was already news that somehow, Chi Lian had managed to acquire a portion of land beside King lake which was turned into a private beach.

Not all the aristocrats were happy about it, as they believed that the emperor seemed to be playing favorites lately. If the beach was in the courts, why didn’t they all have access to it?

Some of these unhappy people Chi Lian actually knew, like madam Go, and madam Ah, women from aristocratic families who were also married to men from such families and respectable members of society. They also happened to be members of the women’s high tea society.

Sometimes, jealousy and envy was not a thing that could be hidden and Chi Lian noticed it in the crowd of those who attended the gala for the opening of the old museum.

But, she paid them no mind, it was not as if their jealousy harmed her in any way.

She even smiled at them, before turning back to watch her brother giving a speech on a podium in the large museum.

"In the search for the lost parts of our culture which have long represented our empire, we have made headway and discovered missing arts that were stolen as many as one hundred years ago. One such painting is the peach festival of the queen mother of the west, the misty mountain temple of Xhengzu, the heavenly pagoda of the black plains and many more."

Chi Lian heard the old master whispering to Muyang, "Wasn’t the peach festival stolen from the imperial museum many years ago."

"It was recovered in Yan Feng’s belongings a few days ago, along with our lotus blessing." Muyang replied.

"Oh my God, the Yan’s were harboring a thief all along!! What kind of neighbors did we have all these years?" the old master asked.

His shocked voice was quite long enough to be heard by those closest to them in the quiet room where everyone was silently watching minister Chi Wei give his speech.

She saw the scandalized looks on their faces and knew that before the night ended, the gala in fact, and not the night, everyone would know that the Yan’s had stolen paintings.

It was very likely that those who had stolen paintings or artifacts would go on to hide their stash elsewhere, far away from prying eyes.

She turned her undivided attention back to Chi Wei, and it seemed like he was finally concluding.

"On behalf of the emperor, I would like to share a more joyful news. In celebration of the return of the lost dragon head and some of the lost glory our throne. The emperor along with the royal house intends to begin the return and bequeathal of lost noble titles to the aristocrats and the deserving___"

Chi Lian heard nothing else because an uproar, loud chatter, sudden applause, camera flashes and a plethora of reactions from the attendees of the gala erupted.

The return of noble titles was a very big deal, especially to aristocratic families. Those from aristocratic families vibrated with excitement and started spreading the word using their phones. Some even stood up and excused themselves to make direct phone calls.

Such was similar to the press, as journalists left the room to share this news so that their websites would release it.

Phoenix Tv beat them to it, however.

"The return of noble titles announced by minister Chi on behalf of the emperor!! Make way for the dukes, princes, counts, marquis, earls barons, etc."

Others were smart however, and if they couldn’t announce the return of noble titles, they could use other words to share the news.

"What grading will be used to determine ranks among the nobles?"

"Who will be a duke and who will be a mister?

"From simple aristocrats to true nobles, do they really deserve it?"

"Who are the deserving mentioned by minister Chi as candidates for noble titles."

"What the return of nobility means to the common person and why you should care about it."

The gala was livelier and more cheerful, so much so that the waiters were running back and forth to refill the champagne glasses.

The emperor had not attended the gala for the reopening of the old museum but the grand emperor and queen dowager were present. The imperial princess Rize had attended as well, and she stuck by her husband’s side like glue after his speech, helping him fend off some persistent reporters.

The aristocrats were flocking to him like pigeons to seeds. Most of them were attempting to ingratiate themselves with him and buy his favor. Others were curious and attempting to get more information about the ranking of the nobles. Whatever the reason was, he was clearly the star of the evening.

Chi Lian sneaked a look at her mother and saw her wiping a tear away secretly. Madam An handed her a tissue and when she finished using it, madam An placed it inside her purse.

"My mother is very emotional." she whispered to Muyang.

"Because she is proud of your brother. I am proud as well, mostly of you because you made this happen. This and a lot more, your hands are always moving in the dark to make all of our lives better. That’s how I know that no matter what happens, we are all going to be fine." he whispered to her.

They were standing in front of the peach festival painting, holding hands as they observed it and talked secretly.

"I can’t believe I gave it up." she said.

"Me too." T4 said.

"I can’t believe it as well." Muyang bent his head slightly downwards and smiled at her.

When she showed him the painting, she had declared that it was to be hung in their house in the American empire. He was surprised to hear that it was discovered among Yan Feng’s belongings. He also wasn’t clear on how it got into the hands of Chi Wei but he was sure that his wife had something to do with it.

"You just might be this empire’s guardian angel." he told her.

She smiled gave the painting one last wistful look and pulled Muyang away to look at another. There would be other things to get her hands on in the future, the world was full of bad guys, treasure and beauty.
