Chapter 643: The death of a star.
The pictures she sent out were quickly circulated among the parties who needed to see them. The professor’s identity was uncovered and the emperor’s people disguised as police officers quickly picked up his wife for further questioning.
The emperor was excited, more treasures for the empire had been discovered during his reign. Was this not a sign that he was a blessed ruler?
He was saying this much to his father as they spoke via a hologram video call.
"Don’t get too excited." The grand emperor told him. "The target of the men we have sent out is to secure the island first and capture those involved in this conspiracy. Do not dream of diverting them to gather the treasures as well before that which is of utmost importance is done."
The emperor wiped the excited look away from his face and a precautious one returned.
"I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they settled down there, they must have known about that treasure in advance." The grand emperor was still looking over the photographs.
Additionally he had sent one of his personal bodyguards to bring a history of the island from the royal library which he was looking at.
"We do sweeps every year of all the uninhabitable islands to ensure that no criminals are hiding out there or people are stuck and in need of rescue. And yet we have never once detected their presence. What are they using to shield themselves from our discovery?" The emperor had something which he had been curious about for so long but not shared with anyone yet. He had been wondering if he alone, found it to be weird that not even once had their drones which detected thermal signatures remained ignorant to the presence of humans on that island.
Not even a plane in the sky had noticed a settlement.
"We will find out after we capture them, but now I realize why this island is so familiar. I have been racking my mind for a day and wondering where I know it from. Many years ago, when I was a young man, newly risen to the throne something happened seven months after the death of your grandfather. There was a sudden meteor shower that we never got time to prepare for and I remember this_,"
"The death of a star!" The emperor gasped, interrupting what his father was saying.
The grand emperor smiled, impressed by the ability of his son to seek knowledge even when he did not need to.
"You have done your research." He said.
"I read about the tragedy many years ago when I was meeting with the minister for disaster preparedness. The people thought that shooting stars were in the night sky and they gathered outside in crowds to make wishes. The warning for them to return inside came late as it turned out to be a meteor shower. The meteorites which fell resulted in the death of ten people on an island, in some places fields were burned. There was massive panic and sixteen people were injured as those closest to the areas where the meteorites landed tried to run away and save themselves. The small island, had a resort, Simxing Island I think it’s called. The media called the disaster the death of a star because among the ten victims was an actress and also because people called the meteorites falling stars."
The grand emperor nodded along to most of what his son said and he told him, "You are correct but also wrong because actually all the islands close to Simxing were hit but because they were uninhabitable not much attention was given to them as much as Simxing was."
"So they were never searched." The emeperor said.
"We simply condemned them and told the people to stay away from them. Earlier that year there was a fire on Simxing which killed a child, and then two people drowned after three months and after that there was the meteor shower only a month later. Rumors started circulating that the island was haunted or cursed and something wanted the people off of it. We had long been wanting to get people off the island so we magnified the rumor and to save lives, we advised the residents of Simxing to move away temporarily while we investigated the situation. But even without our advice, everyone run away from Simxing and that was it for luxury island resorts until ten or twelve years later. Even then, those islands were avoided like a plague. Simxing still stands empty to date, I guess someone knew that we would never expect humans to be living there again."
"It might be wise of us to check all the other islands in the area, just in case, we don’t want to miss anything." The emperor suggested.
"The army can do that, a branch of the special operation forces."
Back to the island, the brothers had found hiding spots in all four watchtowers around the compound while Muyang toured around and took pictures which were sent back to the soldiers who would be arriving in two hours.
As for Chi Lian, she dozed off after eating and only opened her eyes after receiving a notice from T4 that the treasure map had been recovered.
The first thing she did was open her eyes and check on the timer of the mission on the virtual screen. Four days!!, she had four days left now.
She got rid of the heavy blanket that she had been using to envelope her entire body and left the tent.
Outside, it looked like digging had been going on all night long and the old brown big clock which had just been pulled out of the ground had been tossed to the side like trash. It was just there, sitting on top of food cans, water bottles, empty milk cartons and juice bottles.
"Eh, this works out well for me." She said. She looked around and squatted down before quickly touching the clock and taking it into her virtual space. She did not want them to see it dangling in the air and freak out.
With the treasure map safely in her position, she could at least breathe easier now but the job was far from finished. She had to recover that treasure as well. It did cross her mind occasionally, the thought about what kind of treasure this was that the system wanted her to find it desperately. She hoped that she would live long enough to see it with her own eyes.
"I will start the analysis and put the map together, you can wash your face and prepare to locate the treasure."
While he did that, she received a phonecall from her cousin, Wang Bolin. She abandoned the dig site quickly and answered the phone.
"Mm, cousin, good morning. "
"Chi-Chi, sister, how are you?"
"I am okay cousin Bolin, but now is not the best time to talk, things are a bit crazy at the moment."
"That’s why I called, I know that you are dealing with the situation with your husband. I heard that he was injured, how is our in-law?"
The Wang’s had been informed that Muyang had been found but he was injured.
"He is recovering, he will be fine."
"That’s very good news, and I have an even better piece of news for you. All the bodies which were buried or are still laying unclaimed in the morgue have been transferred to the CFS, I have put golden Tao in charge. If what you said about Yan Moon is true, we are going to nail that bastard."
"Then I wish you luck, I have to run cousin. We will talk later, bye-bye."
She did not wait for him to respond, her life was on the line and T4 had a location for the mysterious treasure finally.
