Chapter 642: It’s no coincidence, is it?
Chapter 642: It’s no coincidence, is it?
It was pretty easy to locate the location designated by the system as the where about of the last treasure map.
Her impeding but avoidable death was not the only thing on her mind however, there were other things, like her location. "T4, is it really a coincidence that the treasure map is on the same island where these rebels have their stronghold?"
"I cannot give you an accurate answer without knowing why they chose to settle down here initially host."
"I don’t think it’s, a coincidence." she said softly.
She looked down at the tops of the trees, wondering if now was the appropriate time to land. The large red dot on her virtual screen indicated that this was the right place.
She had come all the way beyond the rocky terrain of the short mountain. A portion of this high rugged place was a cliff, which overlooked the sea.
All the way from the cliff, tents had been pitched, large vehicles were digging, and people were carrying items back and forth from what looked like a busy dig site.
She hid behind a large rock and took her binoculars from the virtual storage space to take a closer look.
At first glance, she would have dismissed it with the assumption that it could be a construction site. But which construction site had people that were obviously experts brushing and cleaning up things that were being unearthed from the ground?
And this was no small operation because T4 started scanning the moment she saw the busy site and from his count, one hundred sixty three people were on this dig site.
The system indicated that this very site they were digging was the same location of what she sought. If she was not mistaken, it would be another clock.
There was one man in particular who looked like he was in charge because of the way he was dispensing orders and the fact that everything which was dug up was brought to him first. Once he took a closer look, it was passed on to someone else for brushing. Another individual then wrote down something the second said.
The operation was running like a well oiled machine. But, too bad for them, she was here now. And she too, liked treasure. Her eyes had caught quite a few shiny stones sitting in a pile behind the leader.
All she had to do was wait for the right opportunity to rummage through what they found and take what mattered to her first. The other things could wait until her life was guaranteed.
"T4, what is the identity of that one?"
"Who?" He asked.
"The old man who wants to be Indiana Jones." She answered. Her reason for calling him Indiana Jones was slim because the obviously Chinese man who was not of Caucasian decent was wearing a hat and he happened to be on what appeared to be a treasure retrieval mission.
"I am sorry host, I do not understand the reference."
"The professor looking man that seems to be standing at the center of the operation. He must be affiliated to the rebels to be able to dig on their property without being harmed." In addition to that, the armed men surrounding the dig site made it obvious that it wad not a place anybody could just step foot on.
"This island is public property." T4 told her.
"Oh yeah, maybe you should become a completely normal human and try taking a vacation here. Tell me how public it is after one of the many traps in the forest gets you."
"Why would a normal human go through the forest?" The system pet asked. "Logically speaking, an ordinary human would directly approach the electric fence out of curiosity and then they would probably die after touching it and being electrocuted or be captured and held for questioning before being killed off. That is the only way the situation makes sense."
"Whatever." She responded. "Just scan his face and tell me who he is."
In the meantime, she took pictures and sent them back to her own team which would share them with the emperor and his group.
"The professor is an actual professor of archeology and heritage studies at Crown University. I wonder if your husband knows who he is."
"More details T4."
She was still looking through her binoculars at the busy site.
"He is professor Zhao Long, fifty two years old and he is married with one child. When he is not teaching, he often goes with a few of his students to rumored treasure sites, ruins of old palaces, old burial grounds and the likes looking for whatever archeologists look for. He is most known for being the first in the empire to discover a genuine Xuande incense burner dated back to a millennium. So he is famous for discovering a very old thing."
Ignoring the plain sarcasm ashe asked, "How did he get here?"
"On a boat." T4 replied.
"Are you dense today or is that malfunction still playing whackamole with your system?" He already knew that the means of transportation was not the answer she sought.
"He took out a large loan and invested it in what he had been convinced was the true grave of one general Ding who lived two thousand years ago. That general was buried with hundreds of treasures among which included a golden chariot but nobody knows for sure where the grave is or if he was truly buried with treasures. The professor was conned into investing everything and then he disappeared for a while. There is an open missing person’s file on him with the capital police and everything I have just told you is available for reading on the weibo page which his wife has dedicated to searching for her husband."
"Hmm, I guess he borrowed from the wrong people." She said softly.
He could have borrowed money from an organization affiliated with the mysterious company or he was sold by his debtor to this place.
But, the smile on his face made her ponder on whether he was truly a hapless victim or a maniac who was obsessed with digging up old treasures at the expense of his own life.
"So, what’s the plan host?" T4 asked her
"First, we go closer." She said.
Then, she walked slowly, taking care not to shuttle the rocks. Carefully she moved until she was close enough to look at what they had dug up with her own eyes.
"Oh, I know this thing, it’s called dog head gold." She poked one of the shiny stones which she had seen from afar. But this was no stone, it was a treasure. "I only saw one with my own eyes once in a museum in my old life. Who knew that I would ever see another one? Do you know how rare this kind of thing is? I guess now I have an answer as to why this professor is smiling like a lunatic, depending on the purity, this dog head gold could be a national treasure."
The one from earth had a purity of over
ninety if she recalled properly.
"Does he think they will let him live to take the glory of finding it?" T4 said in amazement.
Chi Lian accessed the virtual farm and got a slice of pizza. It was getting dark so she even took out one of the smaller tents and pitched it.
She planned to wait from inside the tent where no one would see her. And when it got darker, she would strike.
