Chapter 513: The emperor will be pleased
The old madam and the maids went into action, quickly covering up everything as fast as possible. When she noticed that her husband and the others were just standing around she hissed at them.
"What are you waiting for to help us?" She yelled.
"Wife, is this right, these things...." her husband started to say but she glared at him. In turn the old master glared at his son, "Help your mother what are you doing? A big man like you can carry all those dresses at once."
Chairman Jun thought to himself as he helped his parents and sons hide away this evidence, ’There is no dignity for me in this house.’
Cherry who was roped into this as a member of the family pushed one of the smaller necklaces under the chair thinking to herself, ’This family is more interesting and fun than I thought.’
Technically what they were all doing was a crime, these things belonged to the royal family and yet no one was hesitating to hide them because Chi Lian had requested.
"Muyang, make sure that your daughter does not say any unnecessary words in front of the royal butler." The old madam smiled wryly at Mei-Mei who was still sucking her lollipop and pushing the night luminescent pearl around on the floor.
"What about that pearl?" Cherry asked Ringo in a whisper.
He shrugged, no one was taking it so it posed no threat perhaps.
"You do know that it’s a real night luminescent pearl, right? That thing costs millions but you are all comfortable giving it to the child to play around even if there is a room half filled with toys in the house."
Again, Ringo shrugged.
Cherry shook her head in disbelief, "I know your family has money but this is too painful to watch. On the other hand maybe I should also give birth to a child for your family. What worries will I have in life, if you treat the children this well, the mothers must be treated even better."
"Shh.!" Ringo stopped her before she could say something ridiculous that would excite his grandparents.
"Grandmother, the royal butler is here." Chi Lian returned to the living room and announced.
The rest of the family organized themselves properly, the royal butler did not visit with the prior knowledge of the emperor. One must always do their best to put on the perfect smile and polite attitude.
"You are welcome to our house, we are so pleased to see you, please take a seat." the old master spoke on all of their behalf.
"Thank you elder Jun Mengzi, unfortunately I can’t stay long enough to take a seat. I have some urgent palace business to handle." the royal butler spoke softy and politely.
He was always like this this, smiling and acting polite until the emperor sent him for your head, then the smile would disappear and you would see his other side.
"I am here to pick up the crowns for tomorrow’s national liberation day ceremony. " he announced.
When he mentioned crowns, a few of them turned to look each other, wondering specifically which crowns he was speaking about.
"Ah," Chi Lian quickly said before anyone could say something wrong, "I have them upstairs. Qi Qing, please run to my dressing room and bring that medium sized purple box in the shoe closet."
"Yes young miss." Qi Qing went running, knowing all too well that her young miss was probably in a hurry to see the royal butler gone.
Meanwhile, the old madam offered the royal butler a refreshment.
"Thank you but I do not have time for any refreshment as well. I would love to take away some durians however, the princess has been raving about them for a week now. It’s such a shame that the palace has not seen or smelled such durians."
As always, one had to read in between the lines; it was not the royal butler that wanted the durians, it was the emperor.
"We have around five in the kitchen, I will personally pack them for him." He Weili said and then she covered her mouth because she had misspoken, "I mean you, I will pack them for you." She escaped the weird environment in the living room just like that.
"So," the butler said, "What has everyone been up to?"
"Nothing." Muyang said.
"Nothing at all." Muchen added.
"Is your daughter holding a night luminescent pearl young master Jun?" the royal butler came closer to observe what he was seeing.
"Yes," the old master replied.
"You should see her other toys." Cherry said cheekily and Ringo poked her in the waist.
"Well you don’t see that everyday," the royal butler commented. "The little prince has been whining about returning to live with you Miss Chi, I have been told to inquire if you will be able to take him in for a week or two. Like a vacation."
"Sure, we will be happy to host the little prince." He was a likeable boy, and she could not exactly say no.
Qi Qing returned, and gave the box to Chi Lian who set it on the table and unveiled the contents slowly. Two crowns were removed from the box, one silver with green gems and a sharp tip in the middle that had a large diamond and one gold, shorter than the other one, with red rubies, pearls and diamonds. The pearls were flowing down on strings of white and gold.
"This one belongs to the empress and this one belongs to the princess, please deliver them separately so as not to mix them up.
"Daddy pretty." Mei-Mei clapped and she pointed to the crowns.
"Yes, pretty." Muyang concurred.
"Daddy Mei want."
"No," He carried her up and found a way of distracting her.
"I added some extra things like earrings, bracelets and necklaces in case they are needed. I did not want to be presumptuous but I asked for Chian Ximeng’s help and we also made some robes which are in the box. Each robe matches the colors of the gems in the crowns. The third robe is for the queen dowager, I did not give her one when she asked for a crown." Chi Lian went on to explain the details of the contents in the box.
"You have gone above and beyond." the royal butler smiled at her appreciatively.
"I never do anything half heartedly." she replied. "Besides, if the princess marries my brother then we will become family. One can never do too much for family."
"The emperor will be appreciative of your kindness." he said. "Do you wish for me to pass along any message?"
"No," Chi Lian shook her head.
One royal guard cam and carried the box away.
"By the way, are commoners allowed to wear crowns too, smaller ones that do not compete with the royal family in any way." she hurried to add. "I commissioned some for myself and my family members since we will be attending the banquet in the palace. I do not want to cross any lines I do not know about."
"As long as it is not extravagant, it will be okay." the royal butler assured her. A royal guard came over and nodded at him. "I guess our business is done here, and about the things in the garden, do remember your promise to the emperor."
"I do," she nodded.
"One more thing," he handed her an envelope that a guard gave to him. "Your opinion will count."
