Chapter 512: Hide them.
Chapter 512: Hide them.
Mei-Mei however did not notice the anxiety in her grandmother’s voice as she threw her hands up carelessly to show up the shiny thing in her hands. "Grandma pretty,"
Muyang saved the day by removing the crown from his daughter before she could ruin the very expensive crown. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that the oval shaped crown of blue and red, with a mixture of pearls, gems and golden small dragons on the edges which were holding more flowing pearls in their claws.
"Here," Chi Lian saw those big brown eyes of her daughter becoming teary again and she gave her the black night luminescent pearl which had been siting in her virtual storage all this time. "Play with that beautiful pearl, isn’t it pretty?"
"Pretty." Mei-Mei nodded.
The old madam in the mean time enlisted the help of the maids and they started unpacking the dresses from the chests, arranging them in proper order. Just as it was with Chi Lian, a few sneezes here and there could not be avoided.
"Nobody should sneeze on the dresses." the old madam warned the maids, even though she too was sneezing.
"Here," Chi Lian handed them face masks.
"Good Lord, what is not available in your purse?" the old madam asked her in wonder. "No wonder your daughter thinks it’s a magic bag, you carry everything it seems."
"I opened the chests before and it caused me to sneeze so I bought a few masks before returning." Chi Lian lied.
The old master returned as they were folding the dresses, Muchen and Cherry returned with him.
"Wife, look who decided to return home with his wife." The old master was about to mention Muchen’s name when he saw the things in the middle of the living room. "Sweet merciful Buddha!" he gasped when he saw the big crown which Mei-Mei had been holding. "Is the empress here?" he asked, looking around for the presence of royalty.
"No." his wife responded.
"Then did someone do a meritus deed, Chi-Chi, did you do another big thing?" he asked curiously.
As for Cherry, not wasting any moment, she got her camera and snapped some pictures before Ringo stepped in front of her and stopped her. "Cherry," he said in a sickeningly sweet voice, "We have discussed this too, no pictures of anything we can’t explain in the house. No pictures until we know more about the situation."
"En," Cherry replied with a smile and Ringo eyed her suspiciously. The more obedient she was the more anxious he was.
"Welcome back sister-in-law." he waved at Chi Lian.
"You too brother-in-law, we have missed you around the house. Mengze especially, he has missed you so much, every morning he asks for you." Chi Lian informed him. It was true that little monk had a special liking for this uncle of his.
"Really," he extended his arms to carry him and little monk accepted. Mei-Mei scrambled to take his place on Chi Lian’s laps, causing everyone to laugh.
"She was just waiting for the opportunity." the old madam giggled. "Our Mei-Mei knows that he who laughs last, laughs best."
"She is so clever, a true child of our Jun family." the old master boasted proudly.
As they were laughing, Muyang’s father returned with his mother talking happily and whispering. It looked as if they were returning from date night or something from the way they were dressed. The two were surprised to see all the people in the living room that had turned around or tilted their heads to look at them. Muyang’s mother pushed his father that had been holding her around the waist away.
"Haha," she laughed. "Why is everyone gathered here?"
Ringo pointed to the middle of the living room and He Weili gasped. She quickly walked over to take a look.
"Don’t touch anything." the old madam warned her. "Chi-Chi has not yet explained where they came from. But you can all see the quality and designs so we know it’s related to royalty."
"I know who it belongs to." Muyang waved a painting in his hand.
"I said not to touch anything." his grandmother hissed at him. "Your daughter gets her impatience from you."
"All I did was take a look at the books and papers." Muyang mumbled. "Isn’t it good that I know whose things these are?"
"Why does that person look familiar?" the old madam asked.
Chi Lian could not hold it in anymore, "Grandmother, do you remember that drama which was aired last year, my lovely bones. The one people said had a terrible name and urged the writers to change the name but they refused and people said they would boycott it but it aired anyway."
"I remember, my beautiful bones." the old madam said.
"I think it was my lovely bones." her husband said unsurely.
"No," Weili shook her head, " It was my love, my bones."
Chi Lian rushed to talk before an argument over the name of the drama could begin. "The drama was based on bits of history and hear say about the youngest empress Hua Yi Mei, the one whose bones were stolen from her grave. These are her missing belongings, I found them in Pindanshan in an abandoned gold mine."
"What were you doing in the mine?" Muyang asked her.
"Hubby, that does not matter, what matters is that I found empress Hua Yi Mei’s bones. This is a part of our history which most people think was fictional but I have proof right here that it was not. I found her bones."
"Really?" the old master looked at the chests but he could see no bones. "Where are they? Did you leave them behind in Pindanshan?"
"No," Chi Lian smiled mysteriously, "I brought them along with me, in that chest." she pointed to the chest Muyang was rummaging through as he took the books out. "Below the books there is another compartment."
Muyang rushed to remove the rest of the books, the wooden layer that separated the upper and bottom layer and he exposed the bones finally. Almost everyone had gathered around to look at the old bones as if they were special.
"Cover it." the old madam winced, "I know that this is amazing but I don’t know how to feel about a dead body inside my house."
"It’s just bones." Ringo commented. "Perfectly preserved two hundred fifty to three hundred year old bones."
"Cover it before I turn you into one day old bones. Dead is dead, it’s bad luck to have dead things in the middle of one’s living room." the old madam insisted sternly and the bones were covered by Ringo.
Everyone was excited in one way or the other, Muyang for one was excited to dig into the books, scrolls, unfinished paintings and all the writings from the chest. The women were excited to examine the jewelry and clothes.
Chairman Jun however wondered if there was a business opportunity here.
"Young miss," Qi Qing came and whispered to Chi Lian, "The royal butler is here, he says that they have come for the mother tree."
Chi Lian looked at the things on the table and thought about the royal butler, ’No,’ she thought, ’Not yet.’ "Grandma, put the things back in the chests and help me hide them. Or just cover them up please, the royal butler is here."
"You are not giving them to the royal family?" the old madam asked her in shock. She was not the only one to think this way, most of them thought these things would automatically go back to the royal family.
"I almost got my blood sucked by bats getting these things, I can’t just give them out easily. I will bargain for something first." Chi Lian said with determination.
