Chapter 462: Wife, I am unhappy.
"You are back." Wenli’s voice shocked her the moment she stepped into the dimly lit living room. Wenli and Ximeng were still awake, sitting in the living room and apparently waiting for her to return. These two were sitting on the floor and they had laid down a blanket and pillows. Two wine glasses and a variety of snacks sat on the table and a movie was playing on the laptop.
"I am back." Chi Lian replied and she sat down on the sofa, she also kicked off her heels and started gently massaging her feet. "There is a television in this living room, why are you watching a movie on a laptop?"
"I was watching alone." Wenli said. "She joined me ten minutes ago."
"How was dinner with the Smiths? Are they anything like the couple from the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith?" Ximeng asked.
In this world and her previous one the movie existed, was a box office hit and both the actor and actress were famous. They also fell in love, got married, started a family and got divorced. Some people’s fate was to live the same exact life, with the same face in every world it seemed.
"They are wealthy and good looking but that’s were the similarities end. I do not think this couple assassinates people for a living. They were very welcoming, friendly, charming and too assuming. By the time I left Mrs. Smith had invited herself over to our empire for the liberation day celebrations and she is expecting me to host her.
"See rich people easily get along with other rich people. If you were a struggling actress, an ordinary teacher or nurse I guarantee that she would not have invited herself." Ximeng commented.
"I think she just wants to come and sniff my children." Chi Lian mumbled. Half of the time at the dinner table Mrs. Smith grilled her for information on Mei-Mei as if she was looking for secrets from a spy. Perhaps losing her own daughter made her a tad bit addicted to loving other people’s baby girls. If she wanted a daughter so much, in Chi Lian’s opinion maybe she should adopt one. There were thousands of orphaned children in every empire that needed love and a family, millions in the entire world. But it was none of her business so she kept her mouth shut and allowed Mrs. Smith to smile and make ’Awww’ sounds while showering compliments on Mei-Mei.
"I am off to talk to my husband, enjoy your movie you two. Are the others sleeping by the way?"
"I set up the tents we brought outside because they wanted to watch a movie and sleep around a bon fire. We are in a house that costs millions of dollars but they want to sleep outside under the stars. I think they have lost their minds from working too hard." Wenli shook her head and pursed her lips with disbelief on her face.
"Thousand dollar sheets and someone chooses the hard ground, it’s simply crazy." Ximeng added. She and Wenli toasted and sipped their wine.
Chi Lian had a bath and sat on the bed with a lap top, a bag of chips and one medium sized container of chocolate chip ice cream. Then she called Muyang, initiating a video call.
"Wife." Muyang answered when he saw her face.
"Hello my husband." She waved her hand at the screen. "You look exhausted, why do you look exhausted?" she aske with worry.
"I am unhappy." He complained.
"Who has made my husband unhappy?" She asked.
"You." He said. "You have not called me all day and you looked so beautiful in that gown you wore to dinner with the Smith family but you did not send me a picture."
"I wanted to send you a picture of tomorrow’s gown. There was nothing spectacular about this one. How is the conference?" She quickly changed the topic.
"It’s boring, there is nothing exciting about listening to the same people arguing over and over about an issue that if solved can drive up the economy of all our nations but politics and greed have come into play and suddenly everyone is calculating insidiously on how to gain the bigger benefits. It’s exhausting and I don’t think I want to attend next year’s conference which will be held in India."
"My poor hubby, you care so much about the economy and development of the world at a time when most rich people just want to line their pockets with more."
"It’s because I have made enough money and it would be nothing but greed to want more." He replied honestly. "What I have made can feed the next ten generations of my lineage. What I want now is to build a better world for them and many of those to come. Half of the attendees at this conference are old wealthy men of over sixty, at that age what do they want more wealth for?" He was very agitated and that little vein of his was popping out a bit.
"Don’t mention that in the conference or they will stare at you with Ill intent. It appears as if you are in a hotel room, are you preparing for your speech?" Again she changed the subject, hoping to lighten his mood this time.
"Its in two hours but I don’t know if I should speak when I am in such a mood."
"Doesn’t seeing my beautiful face help?" She pouted and brought her face closer to the camera blowing kisses at him and making loud ’mwah’ sounds. "What should I do to lighten your mood? Should I make animal faces and sounds?"
Chi Lian imitated an elephant, a monkey and a tiger playfully. When she saw Muyang laughing she stopped and smiled at the camera. "There is my hubby, the man with the most beautiful smile in the world. What would I do without your smile now, drawing me in and you...." she broke into the song "All of me" suddenly, changing some of the lyrics to what she wanted to sing.
Muyang just watched her sing while smiling and blushing happily. What he could not bear to tell his wife was that she sounded just like his grandmother when she attempted to sing. Simply terrible and off key!!! But watching her close her eyes and sing passionately and extravagantly to him as she raised her head and waved her hand around as if she was performing on stage was enough to lift his moods.
He clapped vigorously when she was finished.
"You are the best my wife, you have the voice of an angel." He added.
In the virtual world, t4 rolled his eyes because it was obvious that his use of autotune and other software had convinced his host that she was a good singer and the host’s husband willingly played into the lie.
"I know, the children always fall asleep immediately when I sing lullabies to them." Chi Lian boasted.
Muyang that had once seen little monk closing his eyes deliberately just to fake sleep and escape from her singing guffawed.
"Yes, they love your singing." He lied.
