Chapter 461: Mr. and Mrs. Smith
"She will not move until you tell her what you use on your skin." Ian whispered to her.
"Oh." she replied "I use a homemade cream that I make myself, if you are interested I will send somebody over tomorrow with a bottle before the photoshoot in your massive gardens."
She had seen those gardens on her virtual screen earlier in the evening from the footage of a drone which did some reconnaissance. When her own house was built she intended to replicate these flower gardens.
"I will appreciate it." Mrs. Smith said, finally letting go of Chi Lian’s face. "But do tell me about this photoshoot that I am hearing about for the first time." she looked at her son with a question in her eyes and Ian blushed and scratched the back of his head.
"I extended the invitation to her mother, I told her that you would be happy to show off the house. Chi Lian owns one of the biggest media houses in the empire of China, she also owns a magazine which is just starting out. They came to LA for a photoshoot so I suggested the gardens." Ian explained.
A maid in a black and white uniform came by with a tray of wine glasses and each of them got one.
"He is right, I do love to show this gorgeous house off." Mrs. Smith pulled Chi Lian to a very white sofa and asked her to sit down. "How did you meet my youngest son honey?"
"He came to me with a business proposal and we have been friendly since then." Chi Lian answered.
"Are you married?" Douglas Smith blurted, "You have a ring on your finger but you appear to be quite young in age."
"Yes I am," she replied, "Married with two children." Chi Lian answered proudly.
"To a billionaire no less." Ian mentioned.
"Asian billionaire or world billionaire?" Mrs. Smith asked.
"World billionaire, she is married to Jun Muyang, the investor father wanted to get in touch with last year when he considered moving into Asia." Ian explained.
Mrs. Smith looked at Chi Lian even more appreciatively. "Did you marry for love or the cheque?"
The wine which she had just sipped almost choked her and she coughed abruptly, putting the wine glass down. First of all it was if they were playing a game of twenty one questions with all the questions directed at her and then the questions became ridiculous and too personal. Even if she had married for money, did Mrs. Smith think that she would openly admit to such a thing?
"Mother, too much." Ian said.
"Oh, pardon me honey sometimes I go in for the kill shot immediately. I am like a tiger that way, I don’t play with my prey." she was making forward movements to mimic the actions of a predator pouncing on a prey. Her nails were painted blood red, making Chi Lian think that her descriptions of predators, prey, going for the kill and red nails pointed to Mrs. Smith probably being a hunter. It was either that or her imagination was too active.
"I married for love." Chi Lian said. It was not necessary for her to explain but she did not want the wrong narrative out there.
"See," Mrs. Smith said to her son, "She doesn’t mind, why should you?"
"Because you never know when far is too far." Ian mumbled. And then he breathed in relief when he saw his father approaching. "Dad thank you for coming." he said.
Mr. Smith directly sat next to his wife, barely glancing at his two sons.
"Hello my beautiful wife." he kissed Mrs. Smith on the cheek. "Who are you torturing tonight?"
"I have been good." Mrs. Smith answered. "Just keeping Ian’s guest entertained, she can take the heat."
"It doesn’t mean you should dish it out." her husband replied. "Hello Miss, I am Abram Smith." he extended his hand to shake hers.
"Chi Lian." she extended her own hand and shook his. "You have a lovely home." she added.
"I have my wife to thank for that." Abram Smith laughed boisterously. He seemed to be happy seeing his wife’s hard work being appreciated and he was happy to stand in the background and let her enjoy all the praise.
"Isn’t she a doll." Mrs. Smith asked her husband. "She is a very successful woman that is married to a billionaire. Jun...you know him." Looking at Chi Lian she said, "Pardon me your husband ’s name seems to have skipped my mind."
"Muyang." Chi Lian said. "Jun Muyang."
"The young investor that outwitted Cary on the ford shares, I like him. I considered working with him last year but I backed out because I had a small problem to handle. The world truly is a small place because I never imagined that his wife would one day be sitting my house as a guest. Maybe this is a sign that I should move into the Chinese market. What do you think?" he asked her sincerely.
"What business are you attempting to enter? Some businesses are not viable because the market is already overly saturated with products like skin care, hotels, cars, to mention but a few." she answered.
She knew what business he was involved in because T4 had done a very thorough background check on the Smiths. She knew that this tall sixty year old black and silver haired man was solely responsible for multiplying the Smith family fortune vastly. She knew that he lost his first girlfriend in a car crush and he met his wife Christine at a party one year later. His wife came from a family of Texas oil barons and she pursued him. They had three children, Douglas, Ian and Arnold.
His wife had carried one more child but it was a still birth, the baby girl died in the womb. After that incident Mr. Smith had a vasectomy secretly which angered his wife. She knew a lot more information about this family than was necessary, both private and public.
"Is the film distribution market in your empire over saturated?" he asked her.
"Honey do you have to discuss business right now? You left your office only forty or so minutes ago. You promised me Abram no business at home." his wife wagged her finger and handed him the glass of wine from which she had sipped. "Drink some wine and let the lovely Lian talk to me about her children. Do you have a daughters or sons?"
She had been expecting this family to be uptight but they were welcoming and friendly.
She showed Mrs. Smith pictures of Mei-Mei and Little monk, also sharing videos of Mei-Mei singing or dancing. Mrs. Smith suddenly had this aura of excitement, she was probably another mother that wanted grandchildren. She even caught Mr. Smith secretly staring.
Mrs. Smith sighed and leaned against her husband, "I bet they smell sweet," she said, "Children at that age always smell sweet."
